Waterlogged roads paralyse Gurgaon: Residents slam poor drainage amid heavy rain

Time of India14 hours ago
GURGAON: The residents of Gurgaon woke up to continuous light rain on Saturday, which began around 5 am and has been lashing the district non-stop since then. Though the rain is not heavy, it has persisted steadily, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life across the city.
The Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh had issued a yellow alert for Gurgaon earlier, warning of thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, and lightning through the morning.
Residents expressed mixed feelings about the weather. 'It is good to finally get some relief from the heat, but the waterlogging on Sector 9, 10 and 15 is making commuting a nightmare,' said Anil Kumar, a local resident.

Another resident, Pooja Yadav, who lives in Basai added, 'The rain started early morning and hasn't stopped.
Water has collected in low-lying areas near my home, and it's difficult to step outside.' Children were seen splashing in floodwaters in some localities, alleviating the tensions momentarily.
'It started raining in our area at 7am. No downpour. No cloudburst. No heavy showers. Just gentle drizzle. Even then specific roads in our sector, especially the 18m main sector road, are flooded as usual. Contrary to what national Urban Development Minister and former CM of Haryana, Manohar lal Khattar has to say that too much rain is the reason for flooding and not drains,' said Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, general secretary, RWA of Sector 23A.

Authorities have urged people to exercise caution, especially around low-lying and flood-prone areas, as continued rain could worsen water accumulation and pose safety risks. 'We advise residents not to venture into such zones unless absolutely necessary, as waterlogging can be deceptive and hazardous,' said a city official. Emergency teams are reportedly on standby to respond to any reports of flooding or accidents.
This steady rain has lowered the minimum temperature to around 25°C, nearly 2.5 degrees below the recent average, offering a cool respite. However, the persistent showers have exposed the city's longstanding drainage issues. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that intermittent rain and thunderstorms may continue over the next few days, urging residents to stay updated on weather advisories and remain cautious during this period.

Rainfall activity dips, deficit rises over 8%

Panaji: In a lean spell that had moderate rainfall only once in Aug, hardly 73mm of rainfall has been added to the seasonal total, as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recorded a deficit of 8.3%. Though it hasn't been totally dry, 46.8mm of the rain out of 72.7mm during nine days of Aug has been recorded in 24-hour phases on two occasions. On the morning of Aug 6, IMD recorded a moderate daily average of 33.5mm, the highest during this month this year and 13.3mm on Saturday morning. On seven other days of weak monsoon activity, only 25.9mm were added to the seasonal total. The deficit, however, is within normal range, as the surplus or shortfall below 20% is considered normal. On Saturday, the Sanguem centre recorded the highest rainfall of 23.2mm, Pernem 20.8mm, Dabolim 18mm, Dharbandora 16.6mm, Mormugao 13.6mm, Ponda 13mm, Panaji 12.2mm, Old Goa 11.5mm and other centres on a lesser scale. The figures of Quepem, Margao, Valpoi and Mapusa were not available. IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall till Aug 12 and heavy rainfall in isolated places on Aug 13 and 14. Rain And Sunshine Bring Pleasant Weather, Normal Monsoon Activity

1 2 Nagpur: The city witnessed a mix of rain and sunshine on Saturday, as several areas experienced intense spells for brief periods. The weather remained pleasant, with low humidity levels adding to the comfort. According to the forecast, the city is likely to see light rains over the next few days. In Vidarbha, Gondia recorded the highest rainfall at 37.2mm, following isolated heavy spells in the region. Other areas saw varied rainfall patterns, ranging from light to moderate intensity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that monsoon activity was normal across Vidarbha. Rainfall distribution was widespread, with heavy showers at isolated places and light to moderate rainfall in most parts of the region. The department noted a significant drop in maximum temperatures across Vidarbha, bringing them to normal levels for the season. Minimum temperatures, however, showed no major changes and remained within the normal range. Gondia also recorded both the highest and lowest temperatures of the day in Vidarbha — the highest maximum temperature at 32.6°C and the lowest minimum at 21.4°C. With the monsoon maintaining its normal pattern, residents can expect intermittent showers and comfortable weather conditions in the coming days. The IMD's short-term outlook suggests that while intense rainfall will likely be limited to isolated areas, light rain will continue to keep temperatures moderate across the region. The current conditions mark a welcome change from the hot and humid spells earlier this season, bringing relief to both urban and rural parts of Vidarbha.
