On Rakhi, rain leaves commuters in a tight knot

Gurgaon: The city experienced continuous light rain from 5am on Saturday, bringing relief from the heat but leading to widespread waterlogging and disruption of daily life. The rain lowered the minimum temperature to around 25 degrees Celsius, about 2.5 degrees Celsius below the recent average, offering a cool respite but also exposing the city's fragile drainage system yet again. The maximum was 27 degrees Celsius, which was 8.3 notches lower than the previous day. Despite the light rain, specific roads in several sectors were flooded by morning. Residents said the waterlogging began within hours of the first drizzle. "It is good to finally get some relief from the heat, but the waterlogging in sectors 9, 10, and 15 is making commuting a nightmare," said Anil Kumar, a resident. "It started raining in our area at 7am, and specific roads in our sector, especially the 18m main sector road, are flooded as usual," said Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, general secretary, RWA of Sector 23A, questioning the official claim that excessive rainfall, not drains, causes flooding. Light rain continued until noon before receding to a drizzle. The district rainfall report showed Gurgaon tehsil logged 7 mm of rain, Kadipur and Harsaru 5 mm each, Wazirabad 6 mm, Badshahpur 3 mm, and Sohna 12 mm. Manesar, Pataudi, and Farukh Nagar saw no rain in that period. The picture changed sharply during the day. Between 8am and 5pm, the tehsil picked up an additional 36 mm, taking its total to 43 mm for the day. Kadipur and Harsaru ended at 25 mm, Wazirabad at 27 mm, Badshahpur at 19 mm, and Sohna at 20 mm. Manesar, dry in the morning, recorded 22 mm, while Pataudi got 15 mm and Farukh Nagar 5 mm. On average, the district saw around 18 mm till 5pm on Saturday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently passes through Bhatinda, Rohtak, Delhi (Ridge), Hardoi, Barabanki, Dehri, Bankura, Contai, and extends east-southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal. An upper air cyclonic circulation over west Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood persists, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation linked to a western disturbance remains over Kashmir and the neighbourhood at the same altitude. Under these conditions, light to moderate rain is likely at many places in Haryana on Aug 9, at a few places on Aug 10, 11, and 13, and at isolated places on Aug 12. Many places are expected to see rain again thereafter. The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the state on Aug 9, heavy rain on Aug 10, 13, and 14, and thunderstorms with lightning at isolated spots during this period. Yellow alerts have been issued for Aug 10, 13, and 14 for heavy rainfall. "The district is under the influence of an active monsoon patch. Rainfall has been moderate in most places, but some pockets have seen heavier spells," said an IMD official in Chandigarh. A GMDA engineer said their teams were on the ground since morning, clearing drains and monitoring underpasses, adding that no major disruptions were reported so far. Authorities have urged residents to avoid flood-prone stretches unless necessary. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Waterlogged roads paralyse Gurgaon: Residents slam poor drainage amid heavy rain

GURGAON: The residents of Gurgaon woke up to continuous light rain on Saturday, which began around 5 am and has been lashing the district non-stop since then. Though the rain is not heavy, it has persisted steadily, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life across the city. The Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh had issued a yellow alert for Gurgaon earlier, warning of thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, and lightning through the morning. Residents expressed mixed feelings about the weather. 'It is good to finally get some relief from the heat, but the waterlogging on Sector 9, 10 and 15 is making commuting a nightmare,' said Anil Kumar, a local resident. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon Another resident, Pooja Yadav, who lives in Basai added, 'The rain started early morning and hasn't stopped. Water has collected in low-lying areas near my home, and it's difficult to step outside.' Children were seen splashing in floodwaters in some localities, alleviating the tensions momentarily. 'It started raining in our area at 7am. No downpour. No cloudburst. No heavy showers. Just gentle drizzle. Even then specific roads in our sector, especially the 18m main sector road, are flooded as usual. Contrary to what national Urban Development Minister and former CM of Haryana, Manohar lal Khattar has to say that too much rain is the reason for flooding and not drains,' said Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, general secretary, RWA of Sector 23A. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One Click Can Change Everything..!! 'We advise residents not to venture into such zones unless absolutely necessary, as waterlogging can be deceptive and hazardous,' said a city official. Emergency teams are reportedly on standby to respond to any reports of flooding or accidents. This steady rain has lowered the minimum temperature to around 25°C, nearly 2.5 degrees below the recent average, offering a cool respite. However, the persistent showers have exposed the city's longstanding drainage issues. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that intermittent rain and thunderstorms may continue over the next few days, urging residents to stay updated on weather advisories and remain cautious during this period. Temp reflects cooling trend, but locals feel the humidity

Indore: Intense humidity continued to give an uncomfortable sticky feeling to residents despite temperature readings reflecting a cooling trend in the city on Friday. On Friday, the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 34.3 degrees Celsius — a 2 degree drop from Thursday's 36.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature stood at 24.5 degrees Celsius, a degree below normal. Though temperature was low, residents continued to grapple with intense humidity. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, relative humidity reached 82% in the morning, making the air heavy and oppressive during the morning hours, while it dropped to 44% in the evening. Senior Meteorologist Dr Divya E Surendran said that cyclonic circulations over Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, along with an active trough system, are influencing the region's weather. "There are chances of light rainfall in Indore and surrounding areas over the next four days. But significant rainfall is unlikely. The system is likely to impact the eastern parts of MP on Saturday. From June 2, the distribution of rainfall and thunderstorm activity will once again increase across the state. Thus, no heatwave warning has been issued," she added. For the past three days, the city saw relatively mild day temperature, fluctuating around 33–35 degrees Celsius — in stark contrast to last year when the mercury crossed 44 degrees Celsius on May 25. Despite this, the high humidity made daytimes particularly taxing. "Every morning the skies look promising with thick clouds, but by noon, sun starts beating down again. The evenings bring little relief. The heat would be bearable if not for this suffocating humidity," said Pooja Yadav, a homemaker from Vijay Nagar. Another resident, 28-year-old software engineer Anurag Jain said, "The ACs run all day, but the moment you step outside, the sweat just pours. We're waiting for a good spell of rain to break this cycle." The Met department has forecast light showers for Indore and nearby districts, including Ujjain, Dhar, and Ratlam, between June 1 and 2, with winds possibly reaching 50–60 kmph.
