Bengaluru, Aug 5 (PTI) Europe's largest software maker SAP and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) on Tuesday signed a pact to digitally skill professionals in India's logistics and transport sector, and create a pool of future-ready workforce.
It also emphasises industry linkages for research, development, and employment to boost national logistics capabilities.
'This pioneering collaboration represents a model government-industry partnership, enabling knowledge transfer, joint innovation, and hands-on learning. By embedding digital logistics tools and SAP solutions into GSV's curriculum, the partnership aims to create a future-ready workforce that meets the rising demands of India's rapidly evolving logistics ecosystem,' the release said.
SAP Labs India on Tuesday inaugurated its second campus in Bengaluru, continuing its investments into India and affirming the country's position as a global technology and innovation hub.
Delivering a virtual keynote address at the event, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that geopolitics, geoeconomics, and geotechnology are all undergoing rapid change.
'From being the 11th largest economy in the world 11 years ago, India is now on track to become the third largest economy soon. Electronics exports have grown eight times in the last 11 years,' he said, outlining the country's rapid ascent in digital world order.

Mumbai, Aug 7 (PTI) The average cost of an organisation for a data breach has risen 13 per cent to ₹ 22 crore in 2025 from ₹ 19.5 crore in the year-ago period, according to a report released on Thursday. However, despite the surge in costs, the security in artificial intelligence is still lacking, the report by global tech major IBM said. Phishing, or the act of sending fraudulent communication to extract personal information, is the top attack vector, with the usage in 18 per cent of incidents, followed by third-party vendor and supply chain promises at 17 per cent, while vulnerability exploitations accounted for 13 per cent. The research sector in India faced the highest impact from data breaches, with average cost reaching ₹ 28.9 crore, closely followed by the transportation industry at ₹ 28.8 crore and the industrial sector at ₹ 26.4 crore. Amid the widespread use of AI, it said nearly 60 per cent of the breached organisations either don't have an AI governance policy or are still developing a policy. Organisations are bypassing security and governance for AI in favour of do-it-now AI adoption, the IBM report said. "While AI is being rapidly embedded across business operations, security and governance are being left behind. The absence of access controls and AI governance tools is not just a technical oversight; it's a strategic vulnerability," Viswanath Ramaswamy, vice president, technology at IBM India and South Asia, said. The company has come up with the 'Cost of a Data Breach Report' for the last two decades, and has investigated nearly 6,500 data breaches for the same.

India may become our largest market, says CEO Altman as OpenAI launches GPT-5
New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) India, currently OpenAI's second-largest market, could soon become its largest globally, CEO Sam Altman said on Wednesday as the company unveiled its next-generation model, GPT-5, which will be available free to all users. Hailing India as an 'incredibly fast-growing" market, Altman noted the remarkable pace at which Indian citizens and businesses are adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI). 'India is our second-largest market in the world after the US, and it may well become our largest market. It's incredibly fast-growing, but what users are doing with AI, what citizens of India are doing with AI, is really quite remarkable. 'We're especially focused on bringing products to India, working with local partners to make AI work great for India and make it more affordable for people across the country. 'We've been paying a lot of attention here given the rate of growth and I am excited to come for a visit in September," Altman said during a media briefing. OpenAI on Thursday announced the launch of GPT-5, describing it as its 'best model yet for coding and agentic tasks". 'We're releasing GPT-5 in three sizes in the API — gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, and gpt-5-nano — to give developers more flexibility to trade off performance, cost, and latency. While GPT-5 in ChatGPT is a system of reasoning, non-reasoning, and router models, GPT-5 in the API platform is the reasoning model that powers maximum performance in ChatGPT. 'Notably, GPT-5 with minimal reasoning is a different model than the non-reasoning model in ChatGPT, and is better tuned for developers. The non-reasoning model used in ChatGPT is available as gpt-5-chat-latest," OpenAI said in a blogpost. The new model is a major upgrade over its predecessor, GPT-4, and represents a 'pretty significant step" toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), Altman said. 'GPT-5 is really the first time that I think one of our mainline models has felt like you can ask a legitimate expert, like a PhD-level expert, anything… We wanted to simplify it and make it accessible. We wanted to make it available in our free tier for the first time," he said. Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, added that the new model significantly improves understanding across more than 12 Indian languages.
