Jinkx Monsoon Just Mocked J.K. Rowling's Anti-Trans Views By Saying This About The Author's Unique Pen Name

When it rains, it pours. This is Broadway star and RuPaul's Drag Race alum Jinkx Monsoon, and she had a few cleverly-placed words for the author best known for creating the Harry Potter series. Related: In a clip for her upcoming interview with Ziwe, Jinkx answered a cheeky question about whether or not J.K. Rowling would "make a good Roxy Hart in Chicago." Michael Loccisano / Getty Images, Dave J Hogan / Getty Images In addition to winning Season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race and Season 7 of Drag Race All Stars, Jinkx has starred on Broadway as Ruth in Pirates! A Penzance Musical, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, and "Mama" Morton in Chicago. She is set to take over as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! in August 2025. Jinkx feigned confusion about J.K.'s identity, seemingly addressing a larger conversation surrounding the British author's anti-trans politics. Related: "Who is Jake? Who is he? Jake Hay Rowling?" Jinkx asked. When Ziwe pointed out that J.K. was a "she", Jinkx immediately said, "Oh, dear. That is not a feminine name in the slightest." Related: Jinkx then suggested that J.K. intentionally misled readers about her gender. "I know that oftentimes, female authors use initials so that people assume it's a male writer," Jinkx said, before adding, "I have to presume that J.K. Rowling was unsatisfied with the way that the world saw her, and then she transitioned herself into a new personality so that the world would perceive her the way she wanted to be perceived." Ziwe and Jinkx locked eyes for a moment, and she responded, "Gagging." In a July 2017 Teen Vogue interview, J.K., whose real name is Joanne, revealed that her publisher for Harry Potter suggested she "disguise" the fact she was a woman so the book "might appeal" to all genders. The author said it didn't last long because once she got a lot of publicity and an advance from America, she was "outed as a woman." Notably, J.K. also writes The Cormoran Strike series under the pen name Robert Galbraith. Related: Over the last few years, J.K. has made headlines for her anti-Trans comments and active campaigning against laws in the UK that would allow transgender people to change their legal gender. Earlier this year, when the UK Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the legal definition of a woman only applied to those whose biological sex is female, J.K. shared a photo with the caption, "I love it when a plan comes together." This TikToker is trying to hit every McDonald's in the U.S. and rate them all

How many McDonald's locations do you think you've been to across the U.S.? Ten, maybe twenty? One TikTok creator is aiming to hit all 13,589 of them. Posting under the handle @donnyboys10, the creator kicked off the challenge last July and has since visited 275 locations across the country, including stops in Chicago, California, Oregon, and Arizona. Each McDonald's gets its own rating out of 10, complete with a short review and a tour of the facilities. And not every location is up to par. The Hollywood Boulevard location in Los Angeles came in at just 3 out of 10. The TikToker wrote: 'This very famous iconic location was absolute shambles.' The main complaints were the bathrooms, as well as the food being overpriced. 'I almost didn't even want to pay for it.' The Encinitas location however, scored a solid 9. 'Everything was available. Everything was clean,' he wrote. Even the bathrooms were 'super luxurious.' Throughout the challenge, @donnyboys10 has built an impressive following of over 128,000, with several videos racking up millions of views. In the comments, fans request to be tagged when he eventually reviews their local McDonald's. 'Im a day one, respect for you man',' one user commented. 'Bro is slowly getting closer to my McDonald's,' another wrote. According to the Daily Dot, @donnyboys10 averages 60 to 90 McDonald's visits a month. At that pace, it would take him about 15 years to visit every single McDonald's in the U.S. (assuming no new locations open in that time). When Fast Company spoke to @donnyboys10 over email, he was more optimistic. He estimated the challenge would take about 9 years to complete. For now, he's juggling his nationwide McDonald's tour with a part-time job and pursuing his bachelor's degree, which slows him down. 'At the start there was one other person involved and we did it together,' he tells Fast Company. 'As the challenge got harder and we needed to visit locations farther from where we were from, he stepped back and left the challenge to only me.' But that hasn't stopped him. 'I wanted to start this not only so I could go to McDonald's,' he explained. 'I try to pick places that I genuinely want to travel to. Besides going to every McDonald's in the US, it has always been my dream to go to every city in the United States.' Fans can donate to help cover the costs—or buy him a Happy Meal—via a GoFundMe linked in his bio. His favorite location so far? The famous blue McDonald's in Sedona, Arizona, where the traditional golden arches are painted to match the skyline and preserve the area's natural beauty. The worst? 'Between third and Pine in Seattle or most McDonald's in downtown Portland.'

10 Best Fake Songs From Fake Movie Bands

This summer has seen some pretty catchy needle drops in movies, from Superman's Mighty Crabjoys to KPop Demon Hunters flash mob fandoms for Huntr/x and the Saja Boys. The latter Netflix release has reached not only Billboard music charts but also become the most streamed animated feature ever. With that in mind, we look back at our favorite fake bands' best songs of the past 30 years. While half the list includes incredible recent music from hit movies, the other half (and our number one slot) nod at the songs that really propelled this particular niche in movies—think A Goofy Movie. So, if you notice some of your favorites missing, simmer down because we excluded musicals and kept to genre movies that had original songs featured in them. Like Superman, we can't help but think this song is for the cool kids. No matter how hard we tried, we could not get 'Try Everything' out of our heads, and Gazelle (voiced by Shakira) might be back in Zootopia 2. Finally, the full single from Freaky Friday has been released for Freakier Friday sung by Pink Slip's in-universe lead singer Christina Vidal Mitchell. Josie and the Pussycats was such an underrated gem when it came out but was formative for millennials. We know there are so many songs, and it was hard to narrow it to one, so we went with 'Three Small Words' (featuring Kay Hanley as the voice of lead singer Josie), which encompasses the moment in time this movie embodies for a generation. Sammie (Miles Caton) in the Sinners universe went on to become a blues legend, but the night that changed his life was when he first performed 'I Lied to You.' The scene is hands down one of Ryan Coogler's masterpieces, and the music sizzles off the celluloid fever dream… just watch. It took a few years, but the Envy Adams (Brie Larson) on-screen performance of the Clash at Demonhead's 'Black Sheep' was finally released on Spotify and other platforms to enjoy. We love Metric's version, but the angst in the movie version is top tier. The Billie Eilish and Finneas-produced songs from Pixar's Turning Red are all so good. This one was also hard to narrow down, but the chorus of 'Nobody Like U' is never not on my mind. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack also has too many killer songs from each band to pick from. While I particularly love 'Soda Pop,' we have to give the Saja Boys props for 'Your Idol' for charting on Billboard. In 'Golden,' we get lyricist Ejae's heart and soul shining through. The powerful anthem is coming for 'Let It Go''s crown in replayability among young animation fans. Powerline is the blueprint, the O.G. of modern fake music pop stars thanks to A Goofy Movie. Vocalist Tevin Campbell made an icon so scene-stealing we're still waiting for a full Powerline album 30 years later… or at least a sequel with more fake music to dance to. Want more io9 news?
