A total of 786 Pakistanis exit India; 1,465 Indians return home from Pakistan after visa cancellation
A total of 1,465 Indians, including 25 diplomats and officials, besides 151 Pakistani citizens with long-term Indian visas have crossed over to India from Pakistan through the International Border crossing located in Punjab since April 24.
The 'Leave India' notice to the Pakistani nationals was issued by the government after 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistan-linked terrorists in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. The deadline for exiting India for those holding SAARC visas was April 26. For those carrying medical visas, the deadline was April 29.
The deadline for 12 other categories of visas was April 27. These were visas on arrival and visas for business, film, journalist, transit, conference, mountaineering, student, visitor, group tourist, pilgrim and group pilgrims.
Three Defence/Military, Naval and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi were declared Persona Non Grata on April 23 and they were given one week to leave India.
Five support staff of these defence attaches were also asked to leave India. India has also withdrawn its defence attached from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. However, those having long-term, diplomatic or official visas were exempted from the 'Leave-India' order.
The officials told PTI that altogether 94 Pakistani nationals, including 10 diplomats, left India through the Attari-Wagah border crossing point on April 29; 145 Pakistanis, including 36 diplomats, their dependents and support staff, left on April 28; a total of 237 Pakistanis, including nine diplomats and officials, left India on April 27; 81 left on April 26; 191 on April 25 and 28 on April 24.
'Eight Indian nationals with Pakistani visa have also left India through the International Border crossing point on April 29,' the sources said.
'Similarly, altogether 469 Indians, including 11 diplomats and officials, returned from Pakistan through the same route on April 29; 146 Indians returned on April 28; 116 Indians, including one diplomat, on April 27; 342 Indians, including 13 diplomats and officials, came back on April 26; 287 Indians crossed over from Pakistan on April 25 and 105 Indians returned on April 24,' the officials said.
A total of 22 Pakistani nationals with long-term Indian visas came to the country through the Attari-Wagah border on April 29 and 129 more Pakistanis with the same category of the visas entered India on April 28.
Officials said some of the Pakistanis might have left India through airports too, pointing out that since India does not have direct air connectivity with Pakistan, they might have left for a third country.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on April 25 called up the Chief Ministers of all States and asked them to ensure that no Pakistani stays in India beyond the deadline set for leaving the country.

After Mr. Shah's telephonic conversations with the Chief Ministers, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan also held a video conference with the Chief Secretaries and asked them to ensure that all Pakistani nationals whose visas were revoked must leave India by the deadline fixed.
The already strained relations between India and Pakistan nosedived further after the horrific Pahalgam terror attack, with New Delhi announcing a raft of measures, including the cancellation of visas, against Islamabad, which hit back with a string of tit-for-tat measures.

Platforms misused for fraud, terror financing: Govt after introducing bill to ban real money gaming
IANS Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025' in the Parliament on Wednesday, which seeks to ban real money gaming in the country. Following the introduction of the bill, the ministry of electronics and IT said in an official statement that the harms of addiction, financial losses, and even extreme consequences such as suicides associated with online money gaming can be prevented by prohibition of online real money gaming. The government said these platforms are often misused for "financial fraud, money laundering, terror financing, and messaging activities" that compromise national security". The framework of the proposed legislation looks to encourage the growth of e-sports and online social games as an industry, while promoting skill development, education, and social engagement. On the flipside, it seeks a blanket ban on all forms of online money gaming, including betting and gambling activities such as fantasy sports, poker, rummy, and online lotteries. Advertising and promotion of such money games will also be banned across all media. The bill aims to protect citizens, especially the youth from predatory real-money gaming applications. These apps lure users with misleading promises of monetary returns, leading to compulsive behaviour and devastating financial distress among families, the government are provisions in the bill to establish training academies, research centres, and technology platforms to advance the gaming ecosystem. The government said the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports will promote e-sports, while the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) will support social and educational gaming initiatives. The bill also moots an online gaming authority to oversee regulation and compliance in the sector. There are strict penalties listed for violations. 'India and Russia have always found ways to cooperate in difficult times.' Here's a look at what he said during the press conference: On India-Russia Trade Ties Russia is taking steps to address trade imbalance with India by addressing trade barriers. We need to increase Indian exports to Russia. The key export items are machinery, pharma, tea and rice. Russia and India are on track to achieve a target of trade worth $100 billion by 2030. Russia remains one of biggest suppliers of energy and fertilisers to India. 'If Indian goods are facing barriers in other countries, Russian markets will welcome them.' On India-Russia Crude Oil Trade 'We don't expect that to happen,' Babushkin said, when asked whether there would be a pause on India's purchase of Russian crude amid a threat of US sanctions. 'Russia has a special mechanism to continue crude oil supplies to India. We are committed to sit with India to address these problems and remove them.' According to Russia's trade official Evgeny Griva, there has been no disruption in crude supply to Nayara's refinery in Gujarat due to the EU sanctions, for it's a subsidiary of Rosneft OAO. 'We have a mechanism to address shipping and insurance related issues,' Griva said. Russia currently provides 40% of India's oil needs, at 5% discount per barrel. On India-Russia Defence Ties 'Russia is the partner of choice (for India). We have jointly developed BrahMos cruise missile (and) are working on other sophisticated equipment, including jet engines,' Babushkin said. 'Operation Sindoor was a very successful battle test of Russian weapons, including the S-400. When India creates an air defence system, Russian equipment will be part of it.' Separately, Moscow and New Delhi are also in advanced talks for developing small and modular nuclear reactors, the Russian Ambassador said. On US Sanctions The US pressure on India to curb New Delhi's oil trade with Moscow, by way of a 50% tariff on imports, is 'unjustified and unilateral', Babushkin said. 'The US actions are decreasing confidence in the dollar. The US has weaponised the economy. Friends do not impose sanctions, Russia will never impose sanctions.' At the same time, the Russian Ambassador welcomed the 'very successful' state visit of China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi. 'The 'Russia-India-China' is an important mechanism. It will be resumed sooner rather than later.'
