25 new Covid cases in city; state reports 112 patients
Mumbai: On Thursday, the state reported 112 Covid-19 cases, of which 25 were in Mumbai.
Health officials said all the patients had mild flu-like symptoms.
Until earlier this month, the city accounted for most of the state's cases on a daily basis.
However, the trend has started to shift since late last week, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) reporting either nearly equal or more Covid-19 cases daily.
On Thursday, the PMC recorded 48 cases.
Since the surge in cases began in mid-May, there have been 21 deaths, four of which occurred in Mumbai — all patients with severe comorbidities. Doctors said most of the deceased patients were elderly.
A few patients are admitted at Seven Hills Hospital, where the BMC has created a separate Covid ward. All patients there are elderly and stable.
Similarly, KDMC commissioner Abhinav Goyal told reporters that as part of Covid-19 preparedness, 10 isolation beds have been kept ready at Bai Rukmini Bai Hospital and five at Shastri Nagar Hospital. TNN

Manipur reports five fresh cases amid rise in Covid infections
The number of active Covid-19 cases in Manipur has risen to five, marking a resurgence of the virus in the state after nearly two years without any reported cases. The Directorate of Health Services on Friday confirmed in the latest status to the report, 15 samples were tested on Friday, including one from Imphal East, 13 from Imphal West, and one from Tamenglong. Of these, three samples returned positive results—one from Imphal East and two from Imphal latest case resurgence was first detected on June 1, signalling a return of the virus in the state after a significant gap since the last reported case. Case against couple for assaulting hospital staff in Mumbai for death of nephew
Mumbai: A couple has been slapped with a case for allegedly assaulting and abusing medical staff at Krantijyoti Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Hospital in Vikhroli following the death of their 15-year-old nephew. The accused, Raju Reddy and his wife, Sarita, residents of Mahatma Phule Nagar in Powai, were booked under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Prevention of Violence Against Medical Personnel Act, 2010. The teenager, Yuvraj Bhise from Vikhroli (West), was admitted to the ICU after a suicide attempt by hanging. Despite life-saving measures like oxygen and ventilator support, his condition worsened. Doctors advised the family to shift him to Sion hospital, but before that could happen Bhise's condition deteriorated further. According to the complaint by nurse Shital Sankpal, when Dr Vinod Uduli informed the family that transferring Bhise was no longer viable, Reddy and Sarita stormed into the ICU, abusing and physically attacking the staff. They allegedly pulled off masks, pushed personnel, and disrupted treatment efforts. Hospital staff had to forcibly remove them and secure the ICU. Family donates trader's eyes, body to MKCG
Berhampur: Family members of an 82-year-old trader in Berhampur donated his body and eyes to the govt-run MKCG Medical College and Hospital following his death due to age-related ailments, early on Friday. The body of E Bala Krishna was handed over to the medical college authorities by E Sruti and E Srinivash, his daughter and son-in-law, in the presence of his relatives and campaigners of organ donation . The deceased was a member of Humanist Rationalist Organization (HRO), Berhampur, which campaigns for organ donations. "Krishna had also pledged to donate his body for research purposes to the medical college," said J Suresh, one of the campaigners. "As per his wish, we decided to donate his eyes and body to the medical college. Amid the grief, we felt proud as my father's body will be utilised for medical studies," said Sruti. The body will help medical students in their studies, said Sagar Prusty, professor, anatomy. "The body would be embalmed to prevent it from decomposition," he said.
