Operation Sindoor: Installation inaugurated at Dilli Haat
NEW DELHI: An installation based on Operation Sindoor dedicated to the valour of the Indian Armed Forces was inaugurated at Dilli Haat by Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday.
The installation highlights how the Indian forces destroyed terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoK. Noting its significance, Mishra expressed, 'The Operation Sindoor installation is an effort to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Army. This installation will serve as a reminder to both Indian citizens and international visitors of the extraordinary bravery and heroism of the Indian soldiers.'
In a symbolic gesture, visitors were invited to apply 'sindoor' (vermilion) at the installation as a 'tilak' in tribute to the armed forces.
The Tourism Department of the Delhi government has planned to set up similar installations at various locations in the city as part of the initiative. The installation in Dilli Haat will remain on display for the next 15 days, officials said.

A first, 24-tonne cherries sent from Kashmir to Mumbai via train
In a first, Railways on Saturday ferried 24 tonnes of cherries from Kashmir to Mumbai via Katra railway station. The move has brought smiles to cherry growers in Kashmir, whose produce will now reach Mumbai in just 33 hours. Earlier, it took six to seven days by road to transport cherries to Mumbai. The cost of transportation has also been cut by 75%. Another cherry cargo, a parcel rake attached to passenger train, from Srinagar will be ferrying 24 tonnes of cherries on June 3. This marks a significant milestone in promoting the horticultural sector of Jammu & Kashmir and enhancing connectivity to major markets. A cherry grower, Ali Mohammad, from Srinagar hailed the railway for providing them safer, quicker and cost-effective mode of transportation to them. 'This is a very good initiative. We were waiting for this facility because the Jammu-Srinagar national highway usually remains shut due to inclement weather. This cherry cargo will help us quickly ferry our produce within 33 hours,' said Mohammad. He said cherries from Kashmir would now be available fresh to the people in Mumbai, Kolkata and other big cities because of the direct train connectivity. An official of the horticulture department said the planning and marketing wing had tied up with Railways. 'More than 95% cherry is grown in the temperate climate of Kashmir. This facility will immensely help farmers because cherry is the most perishable fruit and hence it needs a quicker and safer mode of transportation,' he said. The official further said that ferrying fruits from Kashmir via trains will also realise PM Modi's dream of doubling the income of farmers. 'We have offices in Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata where our officials help farmers to connect with mandis for better price of their produce,' he added. A railway official said cargo rake attached to passenger trains will also cut down transportation cost by 75%. 'In the coming days, we plan to ferry all sorts of fresh fruits from Kashmir to big cities in the country. This move will surely benefit farmers from Kashmir,' he added. The inaugural shipment that was sent from Katra on Saturday had 24 tonnes of fresh, high-quality cherries. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate direct Vande Bharat train from Katra to Kashmir on June 6. The PM had to inaugurate Vande Bharat train on April 19, but his visit had to be postponed due to inclement weather. Subsequently, Pahalgam carnage unfolded on April 22 that left 26 tourists dead and scores injured that was followed by Operation Sindoor on May 7 and a conflict with Pakistan till May 10.

Sports museum comes up in Bengal district
1 2 Kolkata: The seaside tourist destination of Mandarmani will have an added attraction now with the coming up of a sports museum there this week. The museum, the first of its kind in the districts of Bengal, was opened within the Luxury Amar Tree Resort complex near the sea. The place will be open every day from 12 noon to 4pm for both the locals as well as the huge number of tourists who come down to the seaside resort village in East Midnapore district. It will be free entry for all visitors who will be able to have a look at various sports mementos displayed in a beautiful way. The museum was opened by Asian Games gold-medal winning middle distance runner Jyotirmoyee Sikdar and first Indian women's footballer to receive the Arjuna Award Shanti Mullick along with East Bengal footballer Souvik Chakrabarti. Set up jointly with the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club, the museum will be a journey down memory lane for some and revisiting the past for others. The IPL fans will feel happy seeing the helmet worn by West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell as a player of three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders as well as the signed jersey of all squad members of the Kolkata franchise in IPL 2023. They will also get to see the jersey that former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni wore as a Rising Pune Supergiants (2017) member when the side played the IPL for two seasons in 2016 and 2017. The cricket lovers will get a chance to see South African all-rounder Lance Klusener's autographed jersey as well as a signed cap and jersey donated by former India batter Virender Sehwag. Bengal's own former India wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha's autographed gloves are also on display. But it was not only cricket, but people will feel nostalgic seeing the hockey stick used by Gurbux Singh, the 1964 Olympics gold medal winning India hockey player as well as the blazer won by legendary Chuni Goswami while leading the Indian football team to gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta.
