Passing Out Parade of Spring Term 2025 conducted at Indian Military Academy in Dehradun
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 14 (ANI): The Passing Out Parade (POP) of the Spring Term 2025 was conducted on Saturday at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Uttarakhand's Dehradun.
Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, was the Reviewing Officer at the Passing Out Parade.
Lt General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, presented medals to Officer Cadets.
The coveted award of the Sword of Honour was presented to Academy Cadet Adjutant Anni Nehra.
Gold Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit was presented to Academy Under Officer Ronit Ranjan Nayak.
Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing Second in the Order of Merit was presented to Academy Cadet Adjutant Anni Nehra.
Bronze Medal for the Officer Cadet standing Third in the Order of Merit was presented to Battalion Under Officer Anurag Verma.
Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Technical Graduate Course was presented to Sergeant Akash Bhadouriya.
Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Technical Entry Scheme (TES-45) was presented to Wing Cadet Quarter Master Kapil.
Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Foreign Country was presented to Foreign Officer Cadet Nishan Balami (Nepal).
Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Keren Company for standing Overall First amongst 12 companies for the Spring Term 2025.
451 cadets participated in passing out parade from India and abroad, will become part of their respective countries' army as officers. These include 419 cadets of the Indian Army and 32 foreign cadets.
The Indian Military Academy was established on 1 October 1932.
So far, more than 65 thousand cadets have passed out from this prestigious institute. These also include cadets from 34 friendly countries.
Meanwhile, on June 5, the Army Air Defence Centre, Gopalpur, witnessed a proud and momentous occasion as the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the fifth batch of Agniveers was held.
The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Hemant Singh, Commandant of the Army Air Defence Centre, who congratulated the 401 Agniveers on successfully completing their rigorous training and taking their 'Antim Pag' (final step) towards joining the ranks of the Indian Army.
The event was marked by an impressive drill display, which was a testament to the high standards of discipline and training imparted at the Centre.
Brigadier Hemant Singh, in his address, highlighted that drill is the bedrock of military discipline. He emphasised that excellent drill not only reflects the physical and mental coordination of the soldiers but also showcases the unwavering discipline and unity among the Agniveers.
'A soldier's discipline is forged on the drill square. The precision and synchronisation displayed today are a reflection of your commitment and the high standards set by the Army Air Defence Centre,' he remarked. (ANI)

Among them were 419 officer cadets commissioned into the Indian Army and 32 from friendly foreign nations. Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, an alumnus of IMA, reviewed the parade. Lt Gen Rodrigo, who passed out in 1990, is the first foreign military chief to return to his alma mater as chief guest and reviewing officer. The cadets on parade belonged to the 156 Regular Course, 45th Technical Entry Scheme (TES), 139th Technical Graduate Course (TGC), Special Commissioned Officers (SCO-54), and contingents from the nine foreign countries. The cadets marched to tunes like 'Sare Jahan Se Achha' and 'Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja' in precise formations, in a reflection of the rigorous training and discipline instilled at the academy. ICG transfers tow of MV Wan Hai 503 to ocean-going tug Offshore Warrior; Averts drift towards Kerala Coast
Kochi ( Kerala) [India], June 14 (ANI): In a significant development in the salvage operations of MV Wan Hai 503, the vessel's tow was successfully transferred from Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ships to the ocean-going tug Offshore Warrior on 13 June 2025. This shift was essential to progress the operation, as ICG vessels have limited bollard pull - a term denoting the towing capacity of a ship, said ICG. For the past few days, ICG ships had been maintaining the vessel's position away from the coast. However, sudden deterioration in weather conditions, accompanied by strong westerly winds, caused the vessel to drift rapidly towards the shoreline. The adverse weather restricted aerial operations and delayed the embarkation of the salvage team members onto the vessel, said ICG. Despite these challenges, around 1700 hours on 13 June, a Navy Sea King helicopter successfully launched from Kochi with the salvage team and winched them onboard the distressed vessel under extremely difficult conditions. Subsequently, a 600-metre tow rope was connected to the ocean-going tug approximately 20 nautical miles off Kochi. This crucial joint operation involving the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force enabled the salvors to take over the vessel from the ICG and continue the firefighting and salvage work. The vessel is currently being towed westward at a speed of approximately 1.8 knots and is now nearly 35 nautical miles off the coast. Three Indian Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessels are escorting the vessel while also continuing essential firefighting efforts. At the time of this report, only thick smoke and a few remaining hotspots are visible onboard Wan Hai 503 - a testament to the effective and sustained firefighting operations carried out by the ICG, which helped prevent a potential environmental disaster. The ICG is closely coordinating with the Directorate General of Shipping to ensure the vessel remains at least 50 nautical miles from the Indian coastline until a suitable fate is decided by the owners of the vessel, in line with internationally accepted practices. According to the ICG, this marks a major stride in mitigating a hazardous situation and safeguarding the coastal environment. The situation is expected to further stabilise with the anticipated arrival of additional firefighting tugs to support the ongoing operation. 'The Indian Coast Guard remains ever-prepared to respond to such contingencies and continues to work in close synergy with sister services, state authorities, regulatory agencies, and private salvors to ensure the safety of life, property, and the marine ecosystem,' said ICG. "According to ATC, when it tried to contact the plane back, there was no response": Secretary of Civil Aviation Samir Kumar Sinha
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Days after the tragic crash of the Air India flight 171, Secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Samir Kumar Sinha on Saturday giving details stated that after Air Traffic Control (ATC) had tried contacting the plane, it had not received any response, minutes after which the plane crashed in Medhaninagar. 'At 1:39 pm, the pilot informed Ahmedabad ATC that it was a May Day, i.e., full emergency. According to ATC, when it tried to contact the plane, it did not receive any response. Exactly after 1 minute, this plane crashed in Medhaninagar, which is located at a distance of about 2 km from the airport. The captain of the plane was Sumit Sabharwal, and the first officer was Clive Sundar,' Sinha said, addressing the media. He further stated that the plane had started losing its height after reaching a height of 650 feet. 'The AIC 171 plane carrying a total of 242 passengers on board, including 230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 crew members, had taken off at 1:39 p.m. and within a few seconds, after it reached a height of 650 feet, it had started sinking, i.e. losing height...' he added. The Secretary further added that the plane had no history of crashes and had completed the Paris-Delhi-Ahmedabad sector previously without any accident. 'As far as the entire history of the plane is concerned, before this accident, the plane had completed the Paris-Delhi-Ahmedabad sector without any accident. Due to the accident, the runway was closed at 2:30 pm, and after completing all the protocols, the runway of Ahmedabad was opened for limited flights from 5 PM,' he stated. Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the recovery of the aircraft's Black box from the debris was critical to the investigative process. 'The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, which was formed specifically to look into the incidents, accidents that happen around aircraft, was immediately mobilised. One important update from the technical investigation which is happening through the AAIB is the recovery of the black box yesterday around 5 pm from the site, the AAIB team believes that this decoding of the black box is going to give an in depth insight into what would have happened during the process of the crash or moments before the crash itself. We are also eagerly waiting for what the results or the report are going to be once the AAIB goes through its full investigation...' Naidu said while addressing a press briefing. He also stated that the crash had shaken the entire nation. 'The last two days have been very difficult, especially for the ministry and everyone else. The incident that happened in Ahmedabad has shaken the entire nation. My deepest condolences to the family members who have lost their loved ones in the incident. I have also personally lost my father to a road accident, so to a certain extent, I can understand the pain and anguish the family members are feeling,' he further added. (ANI)
