Law students during their industrial visit to the Parliament of Malaysia, gaining firsthand exposure to the nation's legislative process.
LAW is one of the oldest and most respected fields of study — and today, it's more dynamic than ever.
For those considering a law degree in Malaysia — whether to defend the innocent, shape public policy, or advise in the corporate world, UOW Malaysia stands out as a leading private tertiary education institution.
At UOW Malaysia, success in law goes beyond memorising legal jargon; it demands real-world experience, practical training and strong industry connections.
Here's how its Law School prepares students for a successful future in law and beyond.
Accredited excellence
Its Law School is partnered with the prestigious University of London — one of the United Kingdom's (UK) oldest and most respected institutions. As a recognised Affiliate Centre, UOW Malaysia offers the internationally recognised Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
The impact of this strong academic and professional foundation is evident in the achievements of its students. A notable example is The Hotshot Series: The Legal Line — a guidebook co-authored by its law graduates Kenneth Chung, Andreanna Ten and New Su Ann while they were still students. Published by LexisNexis and launched by a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, the book features real-world insights from judges, litigators and industry experts. This reflects how UOW Malaysia's law students are not only academically capable but also well-equipped and inspired to contribute meaningfully to the profession.
Yet, it's not just about prestige and accolades — what truly sets UOW Malaysia's Law School apart is how the institution prepares its students for the real world. Here, law students learn in an engaging and supportive environment, where small class sizes encourage deeper participation and closer interaction with their lecturers.
The faculty also offers personalised academic guidance to ensure every student feels supported — both academically and personally — throughout their journey.

Career readiness
The Bachelor of Laws (3+0) University of London International Programme at UOW Malaysia is built on strong academic foundations — enabling undergraduates to not only study the law but apply it. From day one, students experience a curriculum designed to balance academic excellence with practical learning.
Key learning experiences include:
> Mock trials: Designed to simulate courtroom proceedings;
> Legal research projects: Aimed at developing analytical and legal reasoning skills;
> Guest talks: Curated to provide real-world insights from practising lawyers, judges and legal professionals;
> Field trips: Organised to familiarise students with key legal institutions and environments, such as the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex, Sungai Buloh Prison and the Legal Aid Centre.
These hands-on components provide law undergraduates with direct insight into the legal system, helping them connect theory to real-world practice.
At UOW Malaysia, students are not just prepared for a law degree — they are groomed for a legal career with the confidence, clarity and ethical grounding to thrive in any legal setting.
The UOW Malaysia Law Society organised Law Awareness Day to engage and inform students about key legal issues.
Versatile future
The institution recognises that every student's journey is unique. That's why it guides law undergraduates in selecting electives that align with their career aspirations — whether they aim to become practising advocates and solicitors or in-house counsel in the corporate sector.
But the possibilities don't end there. A law degree from UOW Malaysia opens doors across various sectors and its graduates have gone on to become:
> Corporate legal advisors;
> Human rights advocates;
> Legal consultants;
> Legal journalists;
> Paralegals and legal executives;
> Prosecutors and enforcement lawyers;
> Judge associates;
> Barristers, conveyancers, lobbyists and more.
Whether students plan to qualify for the Bar, pursue further studies, or apply their legal skills beyond the courtroom, the programme equips them with the knowledge, confidence and adaptability to thrive — wherever their passion takes them.
At UOW Malaysia, studying law is about more than earning a degree — it's about becoming the kind of legal professional the world needs: informed, adaptable and ethically grounded.

New era for ACCA students

CHANGING times call for a review of existing practices. In response to evolving industry demands, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently announced a major redesign of its globally recognised ACCA Qualification. The move marks a step towards redefining the accountancy profession, where the role of accountants is undergoing a transformative shift – from financial stewards to enablers of sustainable business, ethical leadership and technological advancement. The newly announced Future ACCA Qualification, to be rolled out from mid-2027, builds on the strengths of the current qualification and incorporates insights from extensive consultation with employers, members, tuition providers and students globally – including input from Malaysian stakeholders. ACCA chief executive Helen Brand said the changes to the qualification are designed to equip the next generation of professionals with the right blend of skills, ethics and insights needed to succeed. 'Accountancy is being redefined. Accountants are now expected to lead on sustainability, support digital transformation, and contribute to social value creation. The changes we're making to the ACCA Qualification reflect this expanded role,' she said in a press release. ACCA director of Innovation in Learning and Assessment Reza Aliof said the qualification will remain as rigorous, relevant and future-focused as ever – with an even sharper focus on employability. 'Students will benefit from tailored learning journeys supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technology and a digital mentor,' he said. The redesigned structure introduces a fully integrated learning and assessment model across all three levels of the qualification, with content shaped around real-world employability, business relevance and future-readiness. Key enhancements include employability modules at every level, offering simulated work experience in areas such as digital technology, ethics, sustainability, and business leadership; a new Data Science Professional exam option at the Strategic Professional level; and enhanced awards and designations that recognise achievement and allow students to demonstrate their skills to employers at every stage of their journey. Malaysian students currently pursuing the ACCA Qualification will undergo a smooth and fully supported transition, according to the press release. 'All completed achievements will be recognised, with no disadvantage in terms of progression or additional costs under the new structure,' it said. It added that through a collaboration with the University of London, ACCA students will continue to have the opportunity to earn a globally respected BSc (Hons) in Professional Accountancy alongside their professional studies. 'The refreshed Foundations in Accountancy route will continue to offer a flexible entry point for individuals without prior academic qualifications,' it said.
