Won't ally with any political parties, people wanting change may join Jan Suraaj: Prashant Kishor
New Delhi: Ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Sunday reiterated that there is no question of aligning with any political parties, but people who want change can join the party.
Speaking to IANS, Kishor announced that the party's state-wide signature campaign will be launched on May 11, focusing on three pressing welfare issues in Bihar and denied the possibility of forming any political alliance, saying his party will have an alliance only with people.
He said, "I am starting my journey from Harnath. From May 11, we will launch an official campaign on three important issues in Jan Suraaj. Our workers will go door-to-door in every household across Bihar."
The campaign will question the status of three key government commitments.
Kishor explained that his party would seek public opinion on whether the 94 lakh families, identified in the caste-based census, received the Rs 2 lakh promised to each of them, whether Mahadalit and Dalit families were allotted the 3 dismil (decimal) of land they were supposed to receive, and whether the digitisation of land records promised under the land survey had been fully carried out.
"On these three issues, Jan Suraaj will launch a people-driven campaign. I will visit Nitish Babu's village, Kalyan Bigha, on May 11 and go house-to-house to gather public opinion. If people agree with our concerns, I will take their signatures as part of this movement," Kishor remarked.
"If the government claims these promises have been fulfilled, then there should be no objection to people verifying it," he added.
When asked about the possibility of a political alliance in the future, Kishor categorically denied any such plans.
"In the fight for change, Jan Suraaj will ally with the people. People who want change will have an alliance with Jan Suraaj. With any party, any political organisation, there is no question of an alliance. Jan Suraaj will contest all 243 seats independently. There will be no alliance before or after the elections," he asserted.

Vijayawada: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said India achieved excellent growth and the country's reputation went up globally under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last 11 years. Referring to food policy and production of food grains, he said the Centre increased minimum support price (MSP) for many crops and a total amount of Rs 3.7 lakh crore was directly deposited into the bank accounts of 11 crore farmers since the launch of PM Kisan scheme. Kishan Reddy further said that PM Modi had given top priority for the defence sector and stated Operation Sindoor was conducted to destroy the terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. He also said the central government launched the 'Make in India' scheme to boost the manufacturing sector. Later, Kishan Reddy released a book on the achievements of the NDA rule in the last 11 years.

CPI-M delegation visits Uri to support shelling-affected residents; slams govt for inadequate compensation, neglect
Uri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 11 (ANI): A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), including the party's General Secretary MA Baby, visited Uri in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district to meet people affected by shelling by Pakistan. CPI-M General Secretary MA Baby expressed reservations over the compensation amount of Rs 1.3 lakh given to the affected residents. 'The situation here is highly distressing, as you would have seen with the drone and shelling attacks. The government has only given Rs 1.3 lakh as compensation, which these days cannot even buy a proper door and window. This is highly deplorable, and we strongly disagree with the government's attitude. The democratic process has been destroyed here. Omar Abdullah is the Chief Minister; this is a Union Territory, and Modi and Amit Shah are controlling everything. We heard that the review meeting conducted with the Lieutenant Governor excluded the Chief Minister,' he said. He further addressed the plight of the people affected by shelling, saying, 'An eight-member family has been given a small room--this attitude of the government needs to change. We, MPs from West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and other corners of the state, came here to raise the plight of people in border areas. We demanded a special session to discuss it, but the Prime Minister refused. He didn't even attend the all-party meeting, only giving lectures here and there.' One of the delegates, CPI-M leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, said, 'The people living in border villages should have access to bunkers for their safety. The visit followed shelling by Pakistan in the civilian areas of Jammu and Kashmir post Operation Sindoor, which was conducted on May 7. The operation was conducted in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to a ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding regarding the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)

Pakistan hikes defence spending by 20% in budget amid tensions with India
Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday increased its defence budget by 20%, allocating Rs 2,550 billion ($9 billion) for the fiscal year 2025-26, amid tensions with India. Finance minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the Rs 17,573 billion worth federal budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the National Assembly. He also presented the budget document as a finance bill in the National Assembly. Last year, the govt allocated Rs 2,122 billion for defence, reflecting a 14.9% increase over Rs 1,804 billion budgeted for the fiscal year 2023-24. The defence sector expenses are the second-biggest component of the annual expenditure after the debt payments. The govt allocated Rs 8,207 billion for debt servicing, which constitutes the single biggest expense. The increase in the defence expenditure is expected to get the broad support of the lawmakers during the budget debate and voting on the finance bill. Aurangzeb also announced a 4.2% GDP growth target for the economy which is higher than the 2.7% achieved in the current year ending on June 30. He said that debt and interest servicing would cost Rs 8,207 billion.
