Here we explain how to cut the cost of your weekly shop - and save up to £679 a year at Lidl.
Discount deal
Lidl is known for its low prices, but you could save even more money with the Lidl Plus app.
Customers who download the app can access exclusive weekly offers and deals, which are automatically applied at the checkout.
The discounts are generous and could save you up to 25% on popular items including baked goods, ice creams and ready meals.
At time of writing, an 80g bag of Flying Goose Sriracha Prawn Crackers cost £1.49 - 50p less than their normal price of £1.99.
Meanwhile, you could save 50p on a box of ten Vitasia Fortune Cookies, which would set you back £1.49.
In total, shoppers who used the Lidl Plus app last month would have saved up to £235.
Coupon king
You can also access personalised discounts and coupons through the Lidl Plus app.
These are tailored to your shopping habits and need to be activated before you reach the checkout.
At the time of writing, Lidl was offering three Bakery Almond Croissants for £1.50 - saving you 57p.
If you used similar deals every week you would save £29.64.
So Rewarding
If you use the Lidl Plus app regularly, then you can unlock rewards for hitting certain spending targets.
For example, you could get a free sweet treat when you spend just £10 a month.
Items to always buy at Lidl
Meanwhile, if you spend £250 in one month, then you will earn 10% off your next shop.
This would save you £6 on a £60 weekly shop.
If you got this deal once a month, then you would save £72 after a year.
Flavour of the week
Lidl often runs weekly offers, which can help you save big on some of your favourite foods.
Every week, the supermarket runs a different theme, with food from countries around the world.
Insider's guide to the best time to shop at Lidl
Former Lidl manager Roo Dhissou reveals her tips to bag the best bargains at the supermarket.
Speaking on 24 Hours in Lidl, she revealed how to get up to 60 per cent off full price items.
Roo said there is a specific time to get more value for money, but you need to act fast.
The best time to shop in the nationwide stores is between 4-5pm, when the orange sticker markdowns begin to appear.
Roo said: "They have set points in the day where you do a check and a refill with whatever has been left out.
"You'll actually see them being marked down, so you'll be able to get them before they go back out onto the shelves.
"They're not marked down on the day like other supermarkets, they're marked down two days before, generally."

Greek, French and Italian week are popular and can be a good opportunity for you to stock up on items including pasta and cous cous.
But keep an eye out for XXL week, which could help you to save big on cupboard essentials.
In its most recent XXL week it sold a box of 16 Bon Gelati Mini ice creams for £3.89
In comparison a standard pack of 12 would usually set you back £3.09 - meaning you would save 18p during XXL week.
If you bought ten items during XXL week then you would save £1.80.
Happy Hour
If you enjoy tucking into a doughnut or a croissant, then pop into your nearest Lidl on your way home from work.
The supermarket runs a bakery happy hour every day from 7pm onwards as part of its pledge to reduce food waste.
You can get your hands on a croissant for 20% less than the normal price - saving you around 10p.
If you used this deal once a week, then you would save £5.20 a year.
Feeling fruity
Lidl is known for its cheap fruit and veg but did you know you could save even more on cupboard essentials in the morning?
The supermarket puts out 5kg boxes of wonky fruit and veg for just £1.50 every morning.
This could save you around £3.50 compared to buying all the items separately.
Lidl also runs weekly offers on six fruits and vegetables, depending on what is in season.
At time of writing you could get a 400g box of closed cup mushrooms for 99p - 30p less than their normal price.
The offers change every seven days, so check the Lidl Plus App, website or weekly leaflet to avoid being disappointed.
If you used both of those deals once a week then you would save around £275.60 a year.
Middle of Lidl
Everyone knows about the "Middle of Lidl", the area of the store where you'll find random stuff that you didn't realise you need, at great prices.
My Lidl tips as a deals expert
TOM Church, co-founder of discount website LatestDeals.co.uk, shares his top tips to save money at Lidl.
Look out for red sticker discounted products.
These are usually marked down later in the day, so shopping just before closing is your best chance of scoring these heavily marked down products.
If you buy just one item at Lidl, you can play 'Spin to Win' in the Lidl Plus app.
This gives you the chance to win money off coupons, free bakery items, or even a £10 voucher.
There's no minimum spend on the item you need to buy to play, so you can spend as little as possible and win up to £10 back to spend on your shopping.
Also, right now on Lidl's Instagram they have a competition running to win a Lidl Gold Bakery card.
All you have to do is comment on the post.
If you win, you'll get a free Lidl bakery item every day!
But did you know you can check what will be in the section in advance?
You can check the items coming to Middle of Lidl online and see the exact date they land in store.
This is a great way to plan your trip and only get the bargains you need.
The Middle of Lidl is refreshed every Thursday and Sunday.
At the time of writing you could get your hands on a Playtive Shark Arch Water Slide for £14.99 - down from £19.99.
Other popular items include DIY tools, sports equipment and kitchen utensils.
If you bought one of these items just once a month then you would save £60 a year.

Lizzie Deignan's farewell tour off to tricky start on Yorkshire home roads

There was personal celebration but professional frustration for Lizzie Deignan on the opening day of her final Tour of Britain when her Lidl-Trek team failed to stop the Mauritian national champion, Kim Le Court, taking the first stage win and overall race lead in Redcar. Deignan's valedictory race on British roads began with a fast 85.6km opening stage, from Dalby Forest to the beachfront in Redcar, and took in some of her longstanding training roads within an hour or so of her home in Otley, West Yorkshire. But although her team had strength in depth in the 20-rider pursuit of the day's breakaway, they proved unable to close down Le Court and Kristen Faulkner, the Olympic champion, who stayed clear to contest the seaside finish. 'We had a clear plan and executed it exactly as we wanted,' said Le Court, riding for the AG Insurance-Soudal team. 'I'm really happy that the legs reacted and I was able to pull it off for the team. We'll see how long I can keep the jersey for. Friday is a stage that suits me a bit more, so I'm going in with a bit more confidence than today.' Deignan was prominent throughout the stage, but whenLe Court, winner of this year's Liège-Bastogne-Liège, broke clear on Langburn's Bank, the steepest gradient of the second classified climb, Deignan's Lidl-Trek team was distanced. Le Court's powerful acceleration on the 16% sections at the base of the climb proved too much for her rivals, including Deignan's teammate, the Paris 2024 silver medallist Anna Henderson, who tried to give chase but was unable to follow the move. Only Faulkner, of EF Education-Oatly, was able to close the gap and the pair, who joined forces on the descent, then worked together to build a half-minute lead on their pursuers during the undulating run into Redcar. Even though Deignan's team had four of their five riders in the chasing group, and were aided both by Cat Ferguson's Movistar team and the French FDJ-Suez team, they were unable to close down the half-minute advantage. But Faulkner almost came unstuck on a right-hand bend in the closing kilometres, misjudging her speed and skidding to a halt against a traffic island. Sportingly, Le Court, knowing that their break had a better chance of success if the pair stayed together, waited for the American. While Lorena Wiebes, a past stage winner, took third in the sprint, Ferguson, making her debut in the race, was the first British finisher on the stage, finishing fifth. The junior world road race champion is now sixth overall, 18 seconds adrift of Le Court. Ferguson, who also took the lead in the best young rider classification, admitted she had expected there to be a regrouping in the final kilometres. 'I thought it would definitely come down to a sprint,' the 19-year-old said, 'so for the two to stay away was a surprise. They were too strong, so credit to them for staying away.' By her own admission Deignan's days as an overall contender are probably gone, but Skipton-born Ferguson, seen as her natural heir, is well-placed to make an impact as the race goes on. 'I've not thought about my strategy yet,' she said, 'but I'm just going to take it day by day and approach each day like we did today, like a real team.' Friday's second stage of the four-day race takes the peloton from Hartlepool to Saltburn-by-the-sea and finishes with the infamous hairpins of Saltburn Bank, the venue for recent National Championships. The steep climb to the finish is well-known to British riders in the peloton and was pivotal to the outcome of the women's road race in 2023 and 2024, both of which were won by Pfeiffer Georgi, of the Picnic PostNL team.

Do Trump's hardline tariffs and travel bans put off Brits from visiting the US?

Tariffs, travel bans, mass firings – if there's one thing you can be sure about with Donald Trump, it's that he'll make news. Constantly . That's even the case here in the UK, where most of his decisions have no direct impact. But is all that coverage having an effect on Brits hopping across the pond for a vacation? If you look at the dry numbers from the US National Travel and Tourism Office, you might think the answer is no. In January, the month of Trump's second inauguration, the number of UK visitors to the US was 5% higher than the previous January. February and April also saw more Brits going to the US than the same months in 2024, suggesting that far from putting people off, we may even be more keen to visit the country when it's run by Trump. ABTA, the British trade association for the travel industry, tells a similar tale. They 'haven't seen any significant changes in terms of UK-US travel post-Trump administration', a spokesperson told Metro, with 'no noticeable shifts away' from the States. But that may not be the full story. Australia-based tour company Intrepid Travel offers small-group trips to destinations as diverse as Nepal, the Galápagos Islands, Antarctica – and the United States. However, the latter has had a significant fall in interest over the past five months, with bookings from UK customers down 12%. That decline appears to be driven by one age group in particular: 21 to 30-year-olds, with whom bookings have fallen by almost a quarter. There was less of an impact for customers above that age bracket. Joanna Reeve, Intrepid's General Manager for the UK & Ireland, told Metro: 'While there is no way to know for sure what is causing the dip, negative perception of the US under the new administration could be playing a part in people's travel choices. 'New immigration rules and travel restrictions could be off-putting for potential visitors.' The country still remains popular overall, she said. According to the Office for National Statistics, the US was the sixth most popular country visited by UK residents in 2023 – though it wasn't far off Portugal and Greece in fifth and fourth place respectively. A survey for ABTA taken in summer last year – before Trump was elected, but while the presidential election campaign was in full swing – found the US came third after only Spain and France when people were asked where they planned to visit in the next 12 months. Even those who disagree with the direction of the Trump administration might want to consider visiting the US in order to mitigate its impact, Joanna suggested. She said: 'There are ways to travel there in a way that supports local people, like through supporting indigenous-led experiences. More Trending 'We're also encouraging people to visit and support the National Parks as they are facing huge cuts to their funding.' Interestingly, the attitude of young travellers with Intrepid – if they are indeed being put off by Trump – does not appear to reflect the broader UK. An Ipsos poll from just before Inauguration Day in January found 18 to 34-year-olds were the most likely age group in the UK to have a favourable view of the US President. However, 47% of Brits between those ages still disliked him compared to 31% who felt the opposite. Those aged 35 to 54 were 64% unfavourable, while 72% of those aged 55 or over felt the same.
