Suspect arrested after alleged mid-flight bomb threat caused emergency landing
Taj Malik Tayor, 27, of Largo, Florida, told another passenger on Allegiant Air flight 1023, headed to Roanoke, Virginia, that his laptop was a bomb, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The plane had taken off from St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE), and quickly returned to that airport after the alleged threat.
"The passenger immediately notified the flight attendants," the sheriff's office said. "Detectives say several other witnesses on the plane also heard Taylor state that he had a bomb."
After the plane landed, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office K9s searched Taylor's belongings. They did not find a bomb.
According to Pinellas County jail records, Taylor was booked just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, and was released from custody about 11 hours later on Monday morning.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken over the case, and provided an arrest affidavit for Taylor.
The affidavit says that Taylor, "knowing the information to be false, willfully and maliciously with reckless disregard for the safety of human life, gave, under circumstances in which the information may have reasonably believed, false information about an alleged attempt being made to do an act… specifically, possession on or about the defendant's person an explosive device…"
According to the affidavit, Taylor told investigators that he made the comments after a passenger was rude to him, and said that he was recently released from a mental health facility. He said he had taken medication on Saturday, the day before the alleged threat, and was "suffering from a lack of clarity."
Taylor appeared in court Monday morning, according to the FBI. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
"Allegiant does not tolerate disruptive behavior of any kind, so the decision was made to return to the airport," the airline told Fox News Digital in a statement. "The plane landed safely and was met by law enforcement officers, who took the passenger into custody."
"We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our passengers and thank them for their patience. As a gesture of goodwill, we issued $100 vouchers to each itinerary, to be used for future travel."
Fox News Digital reached out to Taylor.

Durbin Park bathroom's vandalized again, local baseball league wants answers
One local baseball league is demanding answers after the bathrooms at one of the fields used by the organization were smashed into pieces. What was supposed to be a regular morning baseball practice at Durbin Park turned out to be anything but ordinary. 'We walked into the park on Saturday morning to then find the women's bathroom sinks and everything destroyed,' Shaunn Lobo said, League President of Julington Creek Baseball. 'Shattered the mirrors in the men's bathroom and shattered all of the sinks in the women's bathroom.' Lobo tells Action News Jax he got a call about the bathrooms Saturday morning and immediately went up to the field to take a look for himself. He tells me this isn't the first time something like this has happened to the bathrooms at Durbin Park. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< 'On July 4th, the next morning on July 5th, we walked into the park, and we noticed in several bathrooms in the women's and in the men's bathroom here that fireworks were set off,' Lobo said. Lobo filed police reports for both instances. He tells me that they are working with St. Johns County Parks and Recreation to try and get security cameras put in place. Now, he just hopes that whoever is doing this will be held accountable. 'We really just want to come to the bottom of this and hope that it just doesn't keep happening,' Lobo said. Action News Jax has reached out to the county for the incident reports for both of these instances. We are still waiting to hear back. It's unclear when the bathrooms will be back up and running again at Durbin Park, but we saw the county working on it. Former AG Bill Barr shared ‘new' details on Jeffrey Epstein's prosecution, death in House deposition: GOP chairman
WASHINGTON — Former Attorney General Bill Barr shared 'new' details about the sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein — and his death in federal custody before heading to trial — during a deposition with the House Oversight Committee on Monday, according to the panel's chairman. Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) divulged to reporters that Barr's testimony to House lawmakers and committee staff had revealed 'a lot' on odd circumstances surrounding Epstein's federal prosecution and suicide. 'We asked a lot of questions about the, you know, the suicide,' Comer said, noting the 'general consensus' among Barr, FBI Director Kash Patel, independent medical experts and federal investigations is that the disgraced financier took his own life in a Manhattan lockup on Aug. 10, 2019. 5 Former Attorney General Bill Barr shared 'new' details about the sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein — and his death in federal custody before heading to trial — during a deposition with the House Oversight Committee on Monday. AP The Oversight chairman added that he personally had 'no idea' whether Epstein, 66, killed himself. 'There were blind spots in the in the cameras,' Comer said. 'It's unfortunate … there weren't people in there watching because this is such a high-profile case. … I'm very disappointed in the security. 'We've learned some new things pertaining to different aspects of it, but we've got a lot of people to depose, and we'll release all the transcripts once we get through,' he added. 5 Oversight Chairman James Comer added that he personally had 'no idea' whether Epstein, 66, killed himself. AP Barr's testimony also affirmed an FBI-DOJ assessment provided in a memo last month on the absence of any so-called 'client list' that Epstein allegedly kept of rich and powerful associates potentially implicated in his sickening crimes. The former AG also denied having ever discussed the client list with Trump and suggested that if the 45th president had been involved in Epstein's trafficking network, former President Joe Biden's Justice Department would've leaked any association. In addition to Barr, Attorney General Pam Bondi was subpoenaed for records related to the government's prosecutions of Epstein, his now-convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell and a non-prosecution agreement stemming from an earlier state case against the disgraced financier in the mid-2000s. 5 'There were blind spots in the in the cameras,' Comer said. 'It's unfortunate … there weren't people in there watching because this is such a high-profile case. … I'm very disappointed in the security.' CBS 60 MINUTES That agreement was overseen by then-Miami US Attorney Alex Acosta, later Trump's Labor secretary during his first administration, and Democratic lawmakers said that they'd like to issue him a subpoena as well. Reps. Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.) and Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) told reporters that the Oversight panel should seek testimony from Acosta on Epstein's prosecution. 'We have more questions now than we did going in — and we want more answers and more people to talk to,' said Subramanyam. 5 Asked about their newfound focus on Epstein after nearly five years of silence, the Dems noted that Trump had campaigned on the issue of releasing information on the deceased sex criminal to the public. Department of Justice Barr was one of nearly a dozen former federal officials issued a subpoena by the Oversight panel — including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, attorneys general stretching from Biden's term to the administration of George W. Driver of truck in fatal turnpike crash charged with homicide, immigration violation
FORT PIERCE — The driver of a tractor-trailer involved in an accident Aug. 12 that killed three people on Florida's Turnpike in St. Lucie County has been arrested on vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations, state officials said. Harjinder Singh was in the country illegally, having crossed into the United States from Mexico in 2018, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said Saturday, Aug. 16. Singh obtained a commercial driver's license in California, the department said. Florida Highway Patrol troopers charged Singh with three counts of vehicular homicide, then obtained an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement detainer for Singh, officials said. Dave Kerner, the department's executive director, said Singh, who is in custody, will be deported after the conclusion of his state charges. The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, near the turnpike's 171-mile marker near the northern border of St. Lucie County. Singh was traveling north in a 2024 International tractor-trailer when he attempted a U-turn in an 'official use only' area of the highway, FHP said in an Aug. 13 report about the crash. As he crossed over the northbound travel lanes to make his turn, a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country minivan also traveling north on the turnpike was unable to avoid hitting the truck and became wedged under the left side of the trailer, FHP said. Riding in the van were a 54-year-old man from Miami, a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, and a 30-year-old man from Florida City. Two of them were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where he died that evening. FHP did not disclose the names of the three crash victims. Singh and his two passengers, California men ages 25 and 28, were not injured.
