What Jared Curtis' commitment means to Georgia's 2026 class

Yahoo04-06-2025
When Jared Curtis originally committed to Georgia last March, Kirby Smart likely thought he had the cornerstone of his 2026 class and quarterback of the future. Instead, Curtis threw a wrench in those plans with his decommitment in October.
Despite that decision, Smart and the Bulldogs never let up and remained a constant presence in Curtis' recruitment.

That consistency paid off Monday afternoon as the five-star quarterback out of Nashville Christian announced that he had recommitted to the Bulldogs in a decision between Georgia and Oregon.
A few schools made the list for Curtis following his October decommitment. That list was narrowed down to two in late March after he announced his top two of Georgia and Oregon, as well as his commitment date.
Since then, both schools have gone to work putting together their final pitches for Curtis. He recently hosted both coaching staff members ahead of his decision.
Ultimately, it was Smart and the Bulldogs that regained his favor, and what a decision it was for them.

According to 247Sports, Curtis ranks as the No. 13 player in the country and the No. 4 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The 247Sports Composite ranking is much higher on Curtis, ranking him as the No. 2 player in the cycle and No. 1 quarterback.
He adds a massive boost to a Georgia class that is well off where the Bulldogs typically sit in the rankings since Smart returned home to Athens.
Usually a top-three to five team in the rankings, Georgia's 2026 class ranked No. 26. None of their seven pledges at the time ranked as top-100 prospects.

With Curtis, the Bulldogs jumped significantly in the rankings, which gave them their true cornerstone of the class once again.

Notre Dame will host 5-star 2027 South Carolina cornerback when they host Texas A&M

Rivals No. 1 CB in five-star Joshua Dobson has visits set to Clemson, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He talks about each program here: The list of elite prospects visiting Notre Dame for its contest against Texas A&M just got bigger on Thursday. On3's Steve Wiltfong is reporting (subscription required) that 5-star South Carolina cornerback Joshua Dobson will be making an unofficial visit between the top-25 combatants. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 175-pounder also has set up trips to see Clemson and South Carolina early in the season, as it looks like the Irish are chasing the reported leader Tigers in his recruitment. Dobson is one of the top players in the country regardless of position, as he's ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite. He made multiple visits during the spring, but didn't get a chance to check out South Bend. The Irish made their offer to him in mid-March during their 'Pot of Gold' day, as Dobson could be the next success story that comes out of the festivities. You can expect that the Irish will go hard after him, even though they aren't viewed as his current leader. Plenty could change following his early season visits, and hopefully Notre Dame is still near the top of his list following those trips. Joel Klatt predicts Georgia's College Football Playoff fate

Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt released his preseason College Football Playoff bracket prediction. He predicts Georgia to make the playoffs, but the Bulldogs won't go far. They'll lose to the defending national champions Ohio State in the quarterfinals. Joel Klatt believes that Georgia will be the No. 5 seed in the playoff, losing to Texas in the SEC championship. He projects that the Bulldogs will against the No. 12 Boise State Broncos, who win the Mountain West and earn the Group of Five playoff spot. Klatt has the Bulldogs winning over the Boise State Broncos at Sanford Stadium on their way to the quarterfinal against No. 4 Ohio State, who has a first-round bye. It was a tough decision for Klatt to make. "I can't wrap my head around Georgia," Klatt said on his show. "I think that Ohio State, at that point, will have their quarterback figured out. I think (Matt) Patricia will have the defense figured out. I think that they've got the two best players in the sport, with Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs. This is a tight game, this is a coin-flip game, but I'm going to go with the Buckeyes over the Bulldogs in getting to the semifinal." In this scenario, Ohio State would advance to play Big Ten champion Penn State in the semifinal. It would be an interesting rematch of the Peach Bowl that happened on New Year's Eve in 2022. Ohio State built a 38-24 lead by the beginning of the fourth quarter, but Georgia and quarterback Stetson Bennett took a 42-41 lead with less than a minute left to go. Ohio State still had enough time to get into field goal range, but the 50-yard kick by Noah Ruggles sailed left by the time the 2023 year started. Georgia's hoping the same would happen if they faced Ohio State in the playoff this season. Klatt has Ohio State advancing to the national championship, but falling to the Clemson Tigers.
