The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft is in the books, and the most surprising selection of the night belonged to the Portland Trail Blazers. With the No. 16 overall pick, the Trail Blazers selected Chinese center Yang Hansen, despite the fact he was not expected to get picked until the second round of the draft. After the first round concluded, general manager Joe Cronin weighed in on a unique comparison Hansen was receiving.

Hansen spent the past two seasons playing for the Qingdao Guoxin Aquatic Products in the Chinese Basketball Association. In his most recent campaign, he averaged 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, and three assists per game while shooting 58.6% from the field. With his game closely mirroring that of Denver Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokic, several folks began to label Hansen 'Chinese Jokic.' While Cronin is a big fan of Hansen, he wasn't ready to go that far just yet.
'Nobody's Jokic. That's a tough one. But as far as his ability to pass the ball, there aren't many at his size that can do it like he does,' Cronin said per Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report.

Hansen certainly has upside, but many folks were stunned to see Portland select him this early in the draft. Whenever you are drawing comparisons to Jokic, though, that's usually a good sign. Cronin doesn't want to put that sort of pressure on his new center, though, especially considering he's already going to have more eyes on him than usual considering the circumstances surrounding his selection.

As of right now, the Trail Blazers do not have another pick in the 2025 draft, although that could change if they were to make a trade at some point on Thursday. Assuming they don't, though, the front office will turn their attention towards free agency, where they will look to build up their team in hopes of taking a big step forward next season.

SG Cam Thomas STATUS: Restricted He can score! We know that much. Everything else? ... Not quite his game. But there's value here that can be unearthed on the right roster. 7. SG Ty Jerome STATUS: Unrestricted He was a terrific glue guy in Cleveland, with some scoring, threes and steals every game. 8. PF Santi Aldama STATUS: Restricted I'm curious if he gets an offer sheet given his stretch forward skills. 9. SG Nickeil Alexander-Walker STATUS: Unrestricted A 3-and-D player who will make himself some money this offseason. 10. C Clint Capela STATUS: Unrestricted He can still rebound and block shots. That's something. 11. SG Quentin Grimes STATUS: Restricted He EXPLODED in Philly, so maybe that was a sign of things to come. 12. PF Dorian Finney-Smith STATUS: Unrestricted See above for what I said about 3-and-D guys. 13. SG Bruce Brown STATUS: Unrestricted Another glue guy for contenders. 14. Report: 76ers picks up $8.4M option on F Kelly Oubre Jr.
The Philadelphia 76ers picked up the one-year, $8.4 million contract option for forward Kelly Oubre Jr. in 2025-26, ESPN reported Sunday. Oubre, 29, averaged 15.1 points with 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 60 games (57 starts) with the 76ers last season. He has produced at least 15.0 points per game in each of the last seven seasons. In 10 NBA seasons, Oubre has averaged 13.3 points with 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 655 games (311 starts) for the Washington Wizards (2015-19), Phoenix Suns (2019-20), Golden State Warriors (2020-21), Charlotte Hornets (2021-23) and 76ers. While Oubre will be back in Philadelphia for 2025-26, guards Eric Gordon and Lonnie Walker IV reportedly won't be. Gordon declined his $3.4 million player option to test free agency, while the Sixers declined Walker's $2.9 million team option, according to ESPN. Gordon, 36, appeared in 39 games (13 starts) in his first season in Philadelphia before undergoing arthroscopic wrist surgery in February. He put up 6.8 points per game after averaging double-figure points in each of his previous 16 NBA seasons. Walker, 26, began the season with EuroLeague club Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania before the Sixers brought in the Pennsylvania native in February. Report: James Harden gets new 2-year, $81.5M deal with Clippers
James Harden declined his player option in order to sign a new two-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers worth $81.5 million, ESPN reported Sunday. The 11-time All-Star guard will return to the Clippers after spending the past two seasons there. The second year of the new pact reportedly has a player option and partial guarantees. Harden, who turns 36 before next season begins, played 79 games (all starts) for Los Angeles in 2024-25 and averaged 22.8 points, 8.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds, though his 3-point shooting ticked down from 38.1 percent the year before to 35.2 percent. He was named to the All-NBA third team, his first All-NBA honor since 2019-20. Harden also put up 18.7 points, 9.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game during the Clippers' seven-game playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round.
