Goa is yog bhoomi, not bhog bhoomi: CM at Sanatan Sanstha event
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Saturday said Goa is 'yog bhoomi (land of devotion/yoga)', not 'bhog bhoomi (land of pleasure)'. Sawant said the coastal state, which has for long been associated with 'sun, sand and sea', is now becoming known for its temples and culture.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of 'Sanatan Rashtra Shankhnad Mahotsav', organised by Goa-based Sanatan Sanstha to commemorate the 83rd birthday of Sanatan Sanstha's founder Jayant Athavale and the silver jubilee of the organisation.
'When people visited Goa, they used to think it was 'bhog bhoomi'. This [Goa] is 'yog bhoomi', this is 'Gau mata's bhoomi (mother cow's land)', this is 'Parshuram's bhoomi (referring to the belief that Lord Parshuram shot an arrow into the Arabian Sea and parted it, creating Goa),' said the Chief Minister.
'Earlier, people used to come to Goa for sun, sand and sea. But now they come here to see Goa's ancient and grand temples, the state's culture and villages. We have temples from the Kadamba dynasty and the Maratha era. We have renovated them. This along with Kaavi art are major attractions. The Sanatan Sanstha has an ashram here… In Sanguem, a Sanskrit teaching school has come up and people from across the country are now coming to study Sanskrit scriptures and economics there,' he said.
Sanatan Sanstha, which has branches across Goa and Maharashtra, said the three-day event marks an 'auspicious beginning to unite all in the mission to re-establish Sanatan Rashtra (Ram Rajya), paving the way for India to once again rise as the Vishwaguru (world leader)'.
Sawant's presence at the inauguration marks a rare instance of a Chief Minister of the state attending an event organised by the Sanstha. Union MoS for Power, New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, Goa Power Minister Ramkrishna 'Sudin' Dhavalikar, state Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai and state BJP president Damodar 'Damu' Naik were also present on the stage for the inaugural session.
In his speech, Sawant said that everyone who resides in India is a 'Hindustani' regardless of their religion.
'We all say this country is one Hindustan. People living here, irrespective of their caste or religion, still call themselves Hindustani. We say whether it's a Hindu or a Muslim or Sikh or Christian or Buddhist, everyone living in this country is a 'Hindustani'. That is why it is a 'Hindu rashtra (Hindu nation)'. When we say Hindustani, it is not to taunt anyone's religion. Everyone has [the duty] to follow their religion and live their life according to the principles of their religion. The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) has stressed 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas',' Sawant said.
'We say in this Hindustan, we… Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians all live together. This is Goa's speciality. It is the first state to follow the Uniform Civil Code and we say it with pride,' the CM said.
Hailing Sanatan Sanstha's contribution to 'spiritual uplift of society', Sawant said the organisation has been playing a crucial role in propagating Sanatan dharma for the past 25 years and its task was akin to that of a 'lighthouse', promoting the teachings of Hindu religion.
'I consider myself fortunate that this event is taking place on this sacred land of Goa. The Sanatan culture and the Shankhnad Mahotsav will give a fillip to the state's economy and boost tourism. I have full confidence that people will come to visit the temples here from across the country and globe too,' he said.

Our government and state have been defamed (even though) none of the accused are from Meghalaya," he said, according to an NDTV Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO), a prominent Shillong-based civil society group, has demanded a public apology from Sonam Raghuvanshi's family. Its chairman, Roy Kupar Synrem, criticised the family for making unfounded claims against the Meghalaya government and police, saying their remarks unfairly targeted and discredited local statements went beyond grief and bordered on deliberate misinformation. Now that the truth is emerging, they must apologise — not just to the government and police, but to every citizen of Meghalaya who was unfairly maligned," Synrem and Sonam were last seen checking out of their homestay on May 23. Only exception is Arunachal and Sikkim," wrote one person."That's why Northeast also faces discrimination in other parts of India. Many gangs are active in the northeast state who kill people for money," wrote another person on X, revealing how the racist mindset normalises racial went to the extreme of suggesting that the people of the region should be "eliminated"."Northeast tribals are savages, only eliminating is the solution," said another others made racist remarks and went so far as to call northeastern people "savages, cannibal and human traffickers".After Sonam's arrest, as it became clear that no one from the Northeast had anything to do with the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the people of the region are seeking an apology for the racist remarks against RAGHUVANSHI CASE: PEOPLE FROM NORTHEAST SEEK APOLOGY"Indore Couple Case: Just a few days back, many defamed, demeaned Northeast & Meghalaya specifically after the couple went missing. Later the husband's body was found," shared a person from Northeast on listed how the state, which is a tourist destination because of the living root bridges, the colonial charm of Shillong, and the scenic beauty of places like Cherrapunji and Mawsynram, had been defamed for being unsafe and for "tantric magic". They demanded an apology."Unsafe, Tantric Magic, Locals being dangerous, and what not? All such commentators today must apologise. This not only hampered the Northeast's image but also the tourism economy as a whole. Sonam (wife) hired three assailants to kill her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya's Sohra."advertisementOthers said it wasn't just Meghalaya, but other Northeast states were also villified."Not just Meghalaya, entire NE tribals were dragged in. They were calling us savages, cannibals, human traffickers and what not. Disgusting people!" shared a person on people called out knee-jerk reactions in such cases, cautioning how an entire region was at the receiving end of a hate campaign."A few days ago, many blamed the Northeast for a honeymoon tragedy in Meghalaya, calling it unsafe, even 'tantric.' Today, it turns out the wife has been arrested for her husband's murder. Let's not vilify an entire region before knowing the truth.""Everyone who blamed Meghalaya and Northeast India without knowing the truth, defamed the state, affected tourism, spread hate, owes a written apology," wrote another the government is trying to bring the Northeast region closer, and tourists are travelling there in hordes to warm hospitality, some hatemongers end up defaming an entire state and region without even waiting for any evidence. This reveals that there is a change in mindset when it comes to the Northeast region of India. A very good beginning would be to incorporate more information on the region in the school Watch

Prohibitory orders imposed in Assam's Dhubri after 'breach of peace' amid communal tensions
Prohibitory orders were imposed in Assam's Dhubri town following communal tensions, officials said. Demonstrations were held in the town on Monday to protest the alleged throwing of meat near a temple. Police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, they said. Issuing an order under section 163 of BNSS, District Magistrate Dibakar Nath on Monday said the restrictions shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further order. "It has been brought to my notice that there is a likelihood of breach of peace and public tranquillity in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Dhubri Police Station due to communal tension, riot risk, violent protests, etc," he said. Accordingly, he ordered all shops and markets in the Dhubri town area to remain closed and prohibited the assembly of five or more people in any public places. Organising any rally, procession, meeting, or demonstration has also been strictly prohibited, the order mentioned. It exempted the movements of emergency services from the purview of the restrictions, it said. "As the circumstances of the situation do not admit service of notice in due time, this order is passed ex-parte," it added. While speaking to reporters, Nath said, 'I appeal to everyone to maintain peace, and there is no need to panic and get emotional. All must stay indoors and respect each other.' A suspected cow head was found near a temple on Sunday, another officer said. Protesting it, a mob attacked vegetable vendors and e-rickshaw drivers near Dhubri Magistrate Colony and New Market, he said. Nath said that sufficient forces have been mobilised from both state and central agencies, and they have been deployed across the town. Asked if curfew will be imposed, he said, 'There will be no curfew, but a kind of semi-curfew will be there. All shops and markets will be closed. I request all not to pay heed to rumours, and one community must respect the other.' The district administration held meetings between the Hindu and Muslim communities on Sunday and requested both sides to maintain peace. "During today's protest, we lobbed tear gas shells at one place. No one was injured," Nath said without sharing further details. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said a number of cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at several places on Eid, on Saturday, and parts of the meat were thrown at multiple locations across the state. He said the police arrested 16 people from different places.

Complainant in Sharmishta Panoli case arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments
The Kolkata Police on Monday arrested Wajahat Khan Qadri, the man whose complaint led to the arrest of 22-year-old law student Sharmishta Panoli, for posting allegedly 'malicious and inflammatory' remarks on social media, The Indian Express reported. Qadri, who was allegedly absconding since June 1, was found in a flat in the city's Amherst Street area, PTI quoted unidentified police officers as saying. He will be produced before a court on Tuesday, The Indian Express reported. A complaint had been registered against him on June 5. He was booked under the same sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as Panoli: promoting enmity between different groups, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class of citizens, intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace and statements that incite public mischief, The Indian Express had quoted an unidentified police officer as saying earlier. Panoli, a fourth-year business and law student at a Pune university, was arrested by the Kolkata Police in Gurugram on May 30 for her remarks about Prophet Muhammad on social media. She deleted the post later and issued an apology on X. A case was filed against Panoli based on Qadri's complaints on May 15. An arrest warrant had been issued against her on May 17, after which she was arrested from Gurugram, brought to Kolkata on a transit remand and remanded to judicial custody till June 13. The Calcutta High Court on June 5 granted interim bail to the 22-year-old law student. Following Panoli's arrest, at least five complaints were filed against Qadri in West Bengal, including two at the Garden Reach Police Station, for alleged hate speech and derogatory remarks on social media that hurt religious sentiments. Qadri had allegedly demanded action against Panoli on social media and later celebrated her arrest. The first complaint against Qadri was filed by a Hindutva outfit Shri Ram Swabhiman Parishad on June 2. The outfit alleged that his posts promoted enmity between religious groups and demanded his arrest for hurting 'Hindu sentiments'. Several complaints had also been filed against Qadri in different parts of the country, including Mumbai, Delhi and Assam, for alleged hate speech and making derogatory remarks against religious deities on social media. In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that an FIR was filed against the Qadri for allegedly making 'unacceptable comments against Devi Maa Kamakhya', The Indian Express reported. A three-member team of the Assam Police had earlier visited the area where Qadri lives in Kolkata's Garden Reach.
