Travis Hunter has played defense in Jacksonville Jaguars OTAs; plan for getting reps

Yahoo5 days ago

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen revealed on May 27 that Travis Hunter was able to get defensive reps during Jacksonville's third organized team activity practice.
'He's been learning a ton defensively and offensively, but that was more so fundamentals, techniques,' Coen said when asked if the team had a chance to get Hunter on the field with the defense yet. 'It wasn't a ton of 11-on-11, 7-on-7, it was more fundamentals, techniques, communication. That was what that kind of last Wednesday was.'

The Jaguars conducted their fourth OTA practice on Tuesday, May 27, from the Miller Electric Center where Hunter was back practicing with the offense.
COMPETITION IS KEY: Liam Coen knows Jaguars' defense is ahead of offense. It's part of the plan
He's continuing to build the foundation for his relationship with quarterback Trevor Lawrence while also taking in information from meetings and applying it to the field.
That doesn't mean that he's falling behind defensively, according to Coen.
'He's been learning with those guys and meeting with them extra as he's needed to,' he said.
Travis Hunter won't split time on offense and defense during camp, according to Liam Coen
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter (12) runs during the first organized team activity at Miller Electric Center Monday, May 19, 2025 in Jacksonville, Fla.
After Hunter was drafted, it was assumed he'd share time with both sides of the ball during practice. It's something he likely did at previous stops Collins Hills, Jackson State and Colorado, and isn't uncommon for two-way players to do at different levels.

But it's not something the Jaguars are planning to do with Hunter right now.
'We won't put him in that situation to have him do that, although I'm sure he'd probably want to,' Coen said. 'He still meets defensively every day that he's on offense. He's getting the mental part of it and being able to catch up on some of the communication, some of the corrections off the film, from the defensive side of the ball.'

Through the first media availability with Hunter, it shows why the team took the offense first approach with him. He's still very raw as a receiver. It'll take time to develop the necessary techniques of established route runners and get a full grasp of Coen's offense.
However, Coen made sure to emphasize that Hunter is still getting his fill on defense off the field.

'He's getting a lot of the mental and it would probably be unfair to put him out on the grass and do both,' he said. 'Ask him to go do that and see success.'
It's likely that they'll have Hunter work both sides during select practices in-season. Coen gave the example of a day where the team is working on third downs. It'll be important for him to get reps on offense, but he'll also need reps with the defense to get situational understanding on both sides of the ball.
'He's going to probably have to, just because it's the way that practices are kind of organized,' Coen said. 'He's definitely going to have to do that.'

Dez Bryant makes statement on Pride Month

The post Dez Bryant makes statement on Pride Month appeared first on ClutchPoints. Former Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant knows a thing or two about shooting his mouth off. After all, it was Bryant who lashed out at Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones after a loss to the 49ers in late October. His gift for gab has gotten him into hot water again on Monday. Bryant took to social media to post puzzling remarks regarding the acknowledgment of Pride Month, per Josh Sanchez of Sports Illustrated. He took issue with the ML Football League, who posted on X acknowledging Pride Month and saying things such as 'Football is gay' and 'Football is for everyone.' 'These are wild statements to make,' Bryant posted on X. 'Excuse my silliness. I'm going to proudly tell my boys football is none of these things. I have nothing against Gays, but this is far from right.' He then followed up with a subsequent post that included much harsher commentary. 'It's gay players in the NFL, but forcing it in people's faces, especially children, can send the wrong message,' he said. 'Football is a real community, like the gay community. Imagine telling gays they have to advocate for straight people. They probably would have a problem.' Pride Month is a celebration of the history and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community. It is held in June to commemorate the historic Stonewall Riots on June 28, 1969, which marked the launch of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. The NFL has acknowledged Pride Month since 2017. However, this is not the first time Bryant has said something off-putting. During his tenure with the Cowboys, Bryant has become one of the most outspoken players. Often saying and doing things that have gotten him in hot water. In 2012, he was involved in a physical altercation with his mother, Angela, that was caught on tape by TMZ. She said he hit her with a baseball cap and tore her shirt as she was trying to break up a scuffle between Bryant and her brother. At one point, Bryant owned a capuchin monkey. That invoked the ire of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He called former Cowboys teammate Sean Lee a 'snake' and called out the team's playcalling. Last November, Bryant trolled Jay Z after a Cowboys loss to the Washington Commanders. All of this came amid rumors that Jay-Z would become an owner of the Commanders. At virtually every turn, Bryant has something to say.

‘Sesame Street' Pride Post Triggers Conservatives Into Meltdown Mode

'Sesame Street' prompted a proper meltdown among conservatives with its social media post marking Pride Month. 'On our street, everyone is welcome,' the beloved show captioned a rainbow-colored image of its characters' arms holding hands that it shared on X, formerly Twitter, in honor of June's recognition of the LGBTQ+ community. 'Together, let's build a world where every person and family feels loved and respected for who they are,' the kids' favorite program added. While the post was praised by many for its inclusive messaging, right-wingers thoroughly flipped out and baselessly accused the show of 'grooming' children. One commenter fumed: 'This is why my grandson won't be watching you. I grew up with Sesame Street in the 70's, before it was woke. So sad that you had to ruin a good thing.' Another ranted: 'Nothing to see here: just a publicly funded puppet show promoting weird sex stuff to your three-year-old.' The show has shared a similar message marking Pride over the last few years, and faced equal backlash each and every time. Metro Atlanta student banned from MIT graduation ceremony after Palestine comments

A metro Atlanta student, set to speak at her university's degree ceremony, was forced to sit it out. The decision came after she made comments in support of Palestine a day earlier. 'You showed the world that MIT wanted a free Palestine,' said Megha Vemuri while speaking at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology commencement ceremony last Thursday as the class president. It is where she made comments about not just Palestine, but also criticized the university. 'You stood in solidarity with the pro-Palestinian activists on campus, you faced threats, intimidation, and suppression coming from especially your own university officials,' added Vemuri, who is an Alpharetta High School alum. After her speech, MIT decided that Vemuri, who had a role in an undergraduate degree ceremony the next day, couldn't attend. The university said in a statement, in part, 'the individual deliberately and repeatedly misleading commencement organizers and leading a protest from the stage, disrupting an important Institute ceremony.' 'I stand by and agree with MIT in what their decision happened to be,' Rabbi Larry Sernovitz of the Hillels of Georgia told Channel 2's Candace McCowan. Sernovitz works with college students, and said this wasn't the time or place for the comments. 'Universities have a duty not just to their students but to the United States to make sure students don't feel intimidated, harassed, or oppressed on campus,' Sernovitz said. 'You want to protest, that's fine, but not at graduation. Give people the freedom to celebrate their academic achievements and not have to worry that when they sit there, excited and celebrating, they're going to have to hear anti-Israel, anti-Jewish propaganda.' While Vemuri wasn't allowed at the degree ceremony, she did receive her degree. Channel 2 reached out to Vemuri, but didn't hear back.
