A pair of iconic Birkenstock Arizonas because these two-strap sandals are supremely supportive *and* durable. The contoured cork footbed molds to the foot for made-for-you comfort, and they'll last for vacations to come! Seriously, mine survived SEVEN years of heavy walking.
I bought my first pair in summer 2017, and I only *just* replaced them at the end of last fall — and for what it's worth, I walked A LOT in them. Miles upon miles around town, when visiting family, and overseas!Promising review: "While all Birkenstocks are comfortable, these just might be my most comfortable pair yet. Overall? 5 stars. Comfort? 5 stars. Style? C'mon, they're Birks! :-)" —AnonymousPrice: $115 (available in women's sizes 4–12.5, in narrow and regular, and two colors)
Or, some Birkenstock Mayaris if you want the same unrivaled corkbed support but a somewhat more ~dainty~ aesthetic. These are my absolute go-to for trips to Europe, as they're a bit dressier than the Arizonas while still keeping my feet happy as I walk 15,000+ steps a day.
I *also* have this style in black. They're my favorite for pairing with dresses and skirts because of the strappy look. For whatever reason, I also find that this style is quicker to break in (but that could just be for my feet!).Promising review: "These are the best sandals made. I will never wear any other sandals. I've worn this style in August in Disneyworld, St. Augustine, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Las Vegas, and I can walk forever. Every color is attractive. Nothing ever rubs; there is no break-in required. I can't stand a thong between my first and second toe, but with these, you can't even feel it. I hope they never get rid of this style." —AnonymousPrice: $110 (available in sizes 5–12.5, wide sizes, and five colors)
**OR** a shimmery Birkenstock thong sandal to add a bit of ✨ glam✨ as you salsa with the locals. These also come in solid colors, which will look equally good as you twirl about.
OK, full disclosure, I don't own this style, BUT I am buying them soon. My mom usually packs these for her tripsPromising review: "I've had different pairs of Birkenstocks for many years, but hadn't worn any for quite some time. Last summer, I noticed several people wearing these, and I thought they were stylish, so I decided I would get them. They are both stylish and comfortable right out of the box. I love them. They look nice with skirts." —AnonymousPrice: $110 (available in sizes 5–11.5 and seven colors)
A pair of Sorel waterproof sneakers so you're always prepared for surprise rain showers and sight-seeing through puddles. Truly, the last thing you want is to have to make a midday stop back at the hotel to swap socks.
Promising review: "WOW. I created a Zappos account just to be able to write this review. These shoes are THE BEST. I ordered them a few days before my vacation after I found out it was supposed to rain the entire time. (Shout out to Zappos for getting them to me in time!) They were so comfortable and kept my feet dry. One night, we got caught in a torrential downpour and ran through several puddles. My pants were completely soaked through, but these shoes kept my feet completely dry!!!! I wore them almost every day for two weeks and walked over 15k steps a day without blisters or pain. I'm in awe. If you're looking for a great waterproof shoe, these are it." —AnonymousPrice: $94.95 (available in sizes 5–12 and in five colors — not all sizes available in all colors)

Promising review: "I really like these! Great arch support. This particular style isn't as 'summer camp' looking as most Chacos, which is why I got them. Great for walking around the city. Love the navy blue. The system to tighten the strap across the foot is clever and makes them particularly easy to get in and out of. I can tell I'm going to wear the heck out of these." —RebeccaPrice: $73.27+ (originally $79.95; available in sizes 5–12 and three colors)

The sole provides some cushioning and doesn't slip on pavement like the traditional leather soles tend to do." —SusiePrice: $104.95 (available in sizes 6–11, medium and wide, and two colors)

Promising review: "Ordered this sandal specifically for my 75-year-old father who has really bad neuropathy in his right foot and cannot wear anything but really (I mean really) soft-soled tennis shoes in order to stop the pain. I looked at many sandals and thought I would try this because they did not have ridges like most of them do (ridges cause pain) and are very smooth on the surface where your foot goes. Well, he loves them, says that other than his tennis shoes, these are the only things that don't cause pain. Good job, Adidas! I will order again if you keep making shoes like this! —anonymousPrice: $21.99+ (originally $28; available in sizes 6–13 and in three colors)

Promising review: "I have a wider forefoot and high arches, so my normal size 8 fit perfectly. Out of the box, they are nearly as comfortable as the Birkenstocks I've worn almost daily for years. The strap near the toes is a bit more snug than I'd like, but I know it will stretch with time. The leather is soft, and the straps are secure enough that they won't rub or cause issues. (I have sensory issues and am SUPER picky about that!) As an added bonus, they make me feel real tall." —AnonymousPrice: $139.95 (available in sizes 5–11)

Birkenstocks are up to 40% off at Zappos — here's 5 rare sandal deals I'd shop now
Birkenstocks are the ultimate summer footwear choice thanks to their comfort, style and versatility. But it's no secret that the high-end brand can be a bit pricey. However, we do have some exciting news — Zappos is currently knocking up to 40% off select Birkenstock sandal styles. Whether you're taking scenic walks on the trails, heading to the beach or going out on the town, these slides will be a wardrobe staple this summer (and beyond). My personal favorite deal is on the Birkenstock Madrid Big Buckle Slide Sandal (Women's), which are currently discounted by $55. So don't wait — start shopping the rare Birkenstock sandal sale at Zappos now. Below, I've rounded up my favorite discounted styles. If comfort is what you're after, these Birkenstocks are the way to go. The flexible sandals offer tons of support thanks to their sturdy and adjustable buckle strap closures and a hook-and-loop back strap. They're also waterproof, so they can keep up on your outdoor adventures. If you need a little extra support from your sandals, this pair is the way to go. Featuring three slender straps with adjustable buckles, the slip on sandals offer an enhanced fit with targeted contouring and cushioning in the footbed. These Birkenstocks feature just one oversized buckle for a touch of trendy. But style isn't the only thing these sandals are known for — comfort is at the forefront of this model. Their cushioned footbed absorbs shock and mimics the shape of a healthy foot, while the medial and metatarsal arches support the instep and ball of your foot. These classic canvas Birkenstocks just got a glamorous update! Glossy oversized buckles add a fun twist of style while the slide sandal's cushy footbed is as comfortable as ever. This version of the sandal is made from nubuck leather that boasts a natural, rustic appearance. The sandal comes in a few different colors, although, prices may vary. A twist on the classic Arizona sandals, these have a leather insole, lining and upper. They're available in Faded Purple and Antique White hues, but only a few of these Arizona Leather Sandals are left in stock, so act fast!

I've spent the whole summer wearing the 'ugliest hiking sandals in the world' and I regret absolutely nothing — here's why
I hate shopping for summer shoes. Summertime sandals are often uncomfortable (Birkenstocks, I'm looking at you), heavy (Doc Marten sandals, anyone?), or way too expensive (Salomon hiking shoes, even though I love them). I want cool and comfortable summer shoes. Finding the perfect summer sandals can be a hassle for several reasons. The worst one? Women's summer footwear is often very toe-y. There are days when I'm just not in the mood for that. I've been craving a closed-toe summer shoe... and I've finally found the perfect pair. So what are the best walking sandals for women? Well, there's no one right answer, but for me, it's got to be the Keen Hyperport H2 sandals. I tested these shoes back in April, and they still have me floored. Weirdly, there's not one specific price for the Keen Hyperport H2 sandals on Amazon. Each colorway and size is a different price, but the MSRP is $119. The exact style I have is currently $106, down $13, but it differs in larger or smaller sizes. As much as I love wearing sandals in summer, there's always one thing that holds me back: my toes. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hate my feet. I hate what other people think about feet. I'd rather not put my toes out there for the world, you know. So when it's super hot and I want to wear sandals, I'm usually a vibrating ball of anxiety — especially wearing them to the office. What do you mean, everyone's going to see my toes? Thankfully, that's not an issue with the Keen Hyperport H2s. Thanks to the toe cover, the Hyperport H2s blocks as much toe as ballet flats or moccasins. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. As you can see from the photo above, no toes are visible. Phew. So while the Hyperport H2s are a little more modest than other hiking sandals (I love my Tevas, but sometimes I just don't want my toes to be out), they're still just as breathable. Thanks to the ribcage-like design, my feet were able to breathe during hot weather while staying somewhat hidden. When it's extremely hot outside, I can't wear my Skechers or Converse sneakers. Well, technically I can, but I'd rather not. That's where the Keen sandals come in clutch — they keep my feet cool, comfy, and covered up, even during a heatwave. I'm wearing the Hyperport H2 sandals as I write this, and it's currently 28°C (82°F), which is very hot for the U.K., and my feet couldn't be happier. Given that Keen's entire mission is to create reliable, sturdy, and long-lasting shoes, I think it's fitting that the Hyperport H2s have been my go-to shoe all summer. There's no need to buy multiple pairs of varying styles, because the Hyperport H2s do it all. But the Hyperport H2s are sandals, so surely they're only for super hot days? That's where you'd be wrong. Seeing as they're waterproof — and designed to be river shoes — they're ideal for warm but rainy days. I wore them yesterday when it was about 80°F and rainy, and they were the perfect shoes. Not only did they keep my feet cool, but they also dried relatively quickly after I got inside. No more stressing over my sneakers that are still wet the next day. Although the Keen sandals don't have Gore-Tex, trust me when I say they may as well have. A splash of water slides right off these sandals, and they dry within a few hours, should they get soaked through. When I was testing the sandals for my review, I actually dunked them in the bathtub and timed how long it took them to dry completely. In two hours, the Hyperport H2s were 100% dry. This is no mean feat — I've had hiking boots that I've had to spend hours drying with a hair dryer before. And the best part? The Hyperport H2s are grippy. Like... so grippy. I have never slipped while wearing these shoes, even during torrential rain on slippery pavements, and I'm one of the clumsiest people in the world. While Keen has self-described the Hyperport H2 as "the ugliest sandal in the world", I think that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, the Hyperport H2 has a polarizing design. But doesn't that make them all the more charming? I love bickering with my sisters about the ugliness of these shoes, or jokingly defending them against my colleagues (who think they should be burned). What's the point of having boring shoes? I'd rather have something that is as comfortable as wearing literal clouds (true, the Hyperport H2s have an injected foam sole, which makes them as bouncy as a marshmallow) than something that feels like thousands of tiny needles piercing my skin with each step. So who cares if these sandals are ugly? I don't. I will actually defend these shoes until I'm blue in the face. I think they're cool in an uncool sort of way. I've been wearing the Keen Hyperport H2 sandals almost every day since April, and I don't see our love affair ending anytime soon.
