Beautiful UK seaside town 30 minutes from major city 'perfect' staycation spot

North Berwick in East Lothian is a short 30-minute train ride out of Edinburgh, providing sweeping views of the Firth of Forth, some great places to eat and the North Berwick Golf Club A seaside town that has been a fashionable holiday hotspot for over 100 years is perhaps the perfect place for a UK holiday. North Berwick in East Lothian is a short 30-minute train ride out of Edinburgh, roughly 20 km along the coast to the east. On a clear, wind-free day, it can be reached from the Scottish capital by bike in just over an hour. ‌ The arrival of the railway in the 19th century brought holidaymakers to North Berwick, which has been called the 'Biarritz of the North' by some. It is perhaps most famous for the North Berwick Golf Club, which was founded in 1832 and delivers stunning views and challenging holes. ‌ North Berwick is becoming increasingly popular as a place to live, thanks to the rising property prices in Edinburgh that are pushing people further out of the city. The Capital's loss is North Berwick's gain. In recent years the movement of younger people to the town has brought with it trendy coffee shops, fun bars and a new lease of life. Which is why the Telegraph named North Berwick it's number one place for a "genteel" weekend break. Whether a genteel weekend breaker or someone who enjoys getting whipped in the face by the sea breeze, North Berwick promises something for everyone. Nature lovers will be in their element with bird watching at the Scottish Seabird Centre and Bass Rock. Tantallon Castle and Dirleton Castle, located east and west of North Berwick respectively, are ready to spark your visitor's imagination. Tantallan Castle, just a short drive from the town, sits dramatically on a cliff edge, offering ancient dungeons and battlements ripe for exploration. Dirleton Castle, one of the country's oldest structures, features towers dating back to the 13th century and beautiful Victorian gardens. Among the must-see spots are the Archerfield Walled Garden and North Berwick Law, a strikingly steep conical hill behind the town itself, offering unparalleled views of the surrounding area. ‌ However, one location has received high praise from tourists: Seacliffe Beach. Visitors to this charming spot are met with dazzling blue seas and soft golden sands, offering a perfect retreat for some chill-out time when the sun makes an appearance. The coastline is simply breathtaking, with dramatic rock formations reaching into the sea and imposing cliffs providing an awe-inspiring setting. ‌ Food enthusiasts will find much to love in North Berwick with its plentiful eating out options like the hip Steampunk Cafe or Drift, which offers stunning cliff vistas. If you have a sweet tooth, then Bostock Bakery is your destination, or you might opt for the day's freshest catch at North Berwick Fry. Ethical food lovers will also want to check out the famous Lobster Shack – all of these places come highly recommended by Time Out's glowing critiques. Bass Rock, an unmistakable landmark on the Firth of Forth horizon, is home to the world's biggest colony of northern gannets. It provides stunning wildlife spectacles that even Sir David Attenborough has described as one of the "wildlife wonders of the world". For those keen on adventure, from April to September, the Scottish Seabird Centre organises boat tours to witness these natural wonders firsthand – a definite bucket-list item for anyone visiting North Berwick.

But the original follower was having none of it and replied in a lengthy rant: 'I will if it's a dad doing it. 'Shame on Bonnie's dad, shame on my dad, shame on any dad that treats their kids the way some do. Shame on any sex. 'And I didn't say shame on you. Just said you'd ditched the wee babe again. "He actually bit Bonnie twice and it was just really difficult in the flat, I couldn't really keep them separated and when she was really young it was just so difficult. "But I think now I've got more space and she's older ..." Laura, a former air hostess, added: "My auntie has had him for two months and yeah can't wait to have him back. "They've [Bonnie and Buddy] met up a couple of times and are getting on good. "And Buddy's going to love the garden too. "So peace, over and out to flat life and onwards and upwards in a lovely big house." 6 Laura with boyfriend Clark Robertson Credit: Instagram

Major global flag carrier airline attracted to Scottish airport

Prestwick Airport, owned by the Scottish Government, has revealed another major airline win. It has today announced the start of a scheduled Air China Cargo freighter service from Guangzhou to Prestwick. This has launched with three flights per week, with the first of the flights receiving the traditional 'water cannon welcome' as it landed at the airport this morning. These new flights mean there will now be seven freighter flights per week between China and Prestwick. Prestwick Airport's chief executive, Ian Forgie, declared today he is 'excited to see the possibilities for Scottish exporters'. Only last month, Prestwick Airport, which has been owned by the Scottish Government since 2013 and was confirmed in late March by First Minister John Swinney to be the subject of an 'active bid', announced a deal with China Southern Air Logistics. China Southern on May 16 started scheduled cargo flights at four per week between Guangzhou and Prestwick, with plans for this to increase to a daily service. The airport, known officially as Glasgow Prestwick, today highlighted potential for the Air China Cargo service to also increase in frequency. It said: 'The new service commences with three flights per week, with the expectations this will grow over time and means there will be seven freighter flights per week between China and Glasgow Prestwick.' Arrival of the first Air China Cargo flight (Image: Prestwick Airport) Mr Forgie said: 'We are delighted to announce Air China Cargo has chosen Glasgow Prestwick Airport as its UK freighter base. This really is an endorsement of Prestwick's exceptional cargo handling capabilities and the service that our team deliver.' He added: 'With the addition of the three new Air China Cargo flights we now have seven flights a week between China and Glasgow Prestwick. We are excited to see the possibilities for Scottish exporters as we hope the return flights will become a strong trade lane between Scotland and Greater China and an alternative cargo gateway to and from the UK.' Air China Cargo will base an operational and commercial team at Prestwick Airport to develop its UK freighter operations and support the service. Nico Le Roux, business development director and head of cargo operations at Prestwick Airport, said: 'We are grateful for the strong working relationship we have with Air China Cargo and the possibilities this scheduled freighter service offers to our cargo hub. 'Our investment in our cargo-handling facilities and partnerships with leading last mile providers has paid off, and we are excited to develop this service alongside Air China Cargo in the coming months.' Colin Dai, Prestwick Airport's country sales director for Greater China, said: 'The launch of Air China Cargo's first scheduled freighter service between China and the UK is a proud milestone for Glasgow Prestwick Airport. 'As China's national flag carrier, Air China Cargo's decision to operate direct flights between Guangzhou and Glasgow Prestwick is a strong vote of confidence in our capabilities and ambition to become the UK's leading gateway for East Asia trade. We are honoured to partner with such a prestigious airline and look forward to building a strong, long-term relationship together.'
