In case you missed it during all of the hoopla that was last weekend's draft, the NFL announced that the 2025 schedule would be released on May 14.
Soon, you'll know your weekly appointment viewing of "Thursday Night Football" games, "Sunday Night Football" games, "Monday Night Football" games and good old-fashioned Sunday afternoon games.
Here's what we know ...
The ideal opponent for the Eagles' season-opening game is a popular topic of discussion at this time of year, and Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz ranked the candidates:
➤ 2027 NFL Draft to D.C.: A formal announcement is expected Monday.
➤ Power rankings: How did the draft impact the league's hierarchy? Take a look!
➤ Phil Simms won't let Abdul Carter wear No. 11: The Giants' Super Bowl-winning quarterback was "outvoted by family," meaning the team's first-round pick now has been rebuffed by two team legends.
➤ Commanders announce deal for new stadium in DC: The team formally announced its intentions to build a new stadium on the site of old RFK Stadium in the District of Columbia.
➤ Jordan Travis retires due to leg injury: Travis' decision comes after he spent his rookie season recovering from a catastrophic left leg injury he suffered during his final college game at Florida State.
➤ What is going on with Bill Belichick? When Belichick was coaching the New England Patriots, he was one of the game's most controlling people ("We're on to Cincinnati."). Now? This Belichick is almost recognizable.

⬆️ Vibes check ⬇️
⬆️ Justin Jefferson: F1 driver Oscar Piastri hit the griddy after winning Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, keeping his word after meeting the Minnesota Vikings' star receiver.
⬆️ Jalen Ramsey: Could the seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback be in store for a reunion with the Rams?
⬆️ Rookie minicamps: Most NFL teams will host draft choices and undrafted free agents later this week, including getting a first look at No. 1 pick Cam Ward in a Tennessee Titans uniform.
⬇️ Jordon Hudson: Bill Belichick's girlfriend is just the latest in a long line of significant others, parents, siblings, friends and hangers on who've had outsized roles and influence in the careers of sports figures. Even Charles Barkley is concerned.
NFL classics: Straight from the YouTube algorithm 🏈🎞️
This is where we reprise some NFL lore and recall classic, memorable moments from yesteryear.
Last weekend, Cam Ward became the 37th quarterback to be taken with the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL draft. Some – John Elway, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning – have become among the greatest to ever play the position. Others – JaMarcus Russell, Terry Baker – were total busts in the NFL.
Then there's Jeff George.
35 years ago, the Indianapolis Colts selected George with the No. 1 pick in the 1990 draft. He might be one of the most polarizing players ever selected atop the draft. He played for five different teams over 12 NFL seasons, throwing for a career-high 4,143 yards in 1995 and leading the league (3,917 yards) in 1997. His 27,602 career passing yards ranks just behind Joe Namath (27,602), and ahead of notable Hall of Famers such as Bob Griese, Bart Starr, Norm Van Brocklin and Roger Staubach (of course, it should be noted each of whom played in a less passer-friendly era than George).
The quarterback with a rocket arm had moments of brilliance and moments of buffoonery.

What are some Commanders' storylines one month before training camp?

That's it... No more Washington Commanders minicamps, OTAs, voluntary, or mandatory workouts. The entire offseason, one continuing storyline for the Commanders has been an edge rusher. Which good edge rusher would the Commanders sign during the 2025 free agency signing period? When that did not occur, it was, "Which edge rusher will Washington draft in the 2025 draft?" That didn't happen either. Oh, but surely they were going to trade for Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson, but the Bengals' price tag was too steep. Advertisement The biggest news entering this week of June 16-20 is that the team actually did not provide any news regarding Noah Brown and his injury last week during team workouts on the field. Brown went down for a pass and did not hop up immediately, signaling to observers that something was not right for Brown. After making his way slowly to the sidelines and venting in frustration, he was carried via the team cart to the Ashburn facilities. The following day, head coach Dan Quinn told John Keim he wouldn't speculate on Brown's injury and that Brown was having an MRI later that day. Four days later, why do we know nothing more? Why haven't the Commanders at least made a succinct statement, informing the local media and fan base of Brown's condition? The Commanders went through a boatload of kickers in the 2024 offseason, preseason, and season. None of them are returning. They went out and signed 31-year-old kicker Matt Gay. Gay, after kicking for the University of Utah, has kicked in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Bucs (2019), the Los Angeles Rams (2020-22) and the Indianapolis Colts 2023-24. Advertisement Now begins the long month until training camp officially begins. At least one thing we know for sure is that the Commanders drafted the right quarterback in 2024, when they selected Jayden Daniels second overall in the draft. Thus, 2025 is the first season the Commanders have entered training camp with positive energy since 2021, after they won the NFC East with a 7-9 record. You recall, Ron Rivera then signed free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, and the Mike Greenbergs of the sports media proceeded to tell viewers how Washington would be a Super Bowl contender. Rivera failed to produce a winning record that season and in all four seasons as GM and head coach, but now the Commanders have Adam Peters as GM, Dan Quinn as head coach, and Daniels as quarterback. No wonder there is much more excitement going into 2025. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Commanders' storylines one month before training camp

PGA Tour names Brian Rolapp as CEO to succeed Commissioner Jay Monahan

The PGA Tour on Tuesday named top NFL executive Brian Rolapp its next chief executive officer to succeed current Commissioner Jay Monahan. Monahan will begin to transition his day-to-day responsibilities to Rolapp and will step down at the end of 2026. Monahan said he informed the board last year of his intention to step down in 2026 after a decade leading the organization. "We've found exactly the right leader in Brian Rolapp, and I'm excited to support him as he transitions from the NFL into his new role leading the PGA TOUR," Monahan said in a statement. In an open letter published on Tuesday, Rolapp talked about the respect he has for golf's history and rich traditions but said there is still work to do and incredible opportunities ahead. Rolapp said after talking with players, board members and fans in recent months, he plans to focus on strengthening the Tour's commercial partnerships. "Professional golf is evolving, as are the ways fans consume sports. My goal as CEO is to honor golf's traditions but not be overly bound by them," he said. Over the course of Monahan's tenure as commissioner, he helped secure $1.5 billion in investment for the league, created equity opportunities for players and launched a Fan Forward initiative, according to a news release. Yet, those efforts were often overshadowed by a pending merger with Saudi-backed LIV Golf. The two announced their intention to merge in June 2023, but have yet to reach an agreement. Rolapp, who was considered a top successor candidate for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, brings decades of experience in forging high-profile media partnerships. As the NFL's Chief Media and Business Officer, Rolapp oversaw the league's commercial, broadcast and digital rights. The PGA Tour will be renewing its media rights agreements with key partners ahead of the current deal's expiration in 2030. "Brian's appointment is a win for players and fans," said golf legend Tiger Woods in a statement. "He has a clear respect for the game and our players and brings a fresh perspective from his experience in the NFL."
