Next shoppers hail dress that 'skims over your tum' and is 'ideal for summer'

Daily Record05-05-2025

'Material is soft and comfy to wear on holiday, perfect fit'
If the recent brilliant weather has got your longing for more days in the sunshine, then you may be considering refreshing your wardrobe. And we've found a "stunning" printed dress that is "ideal for summer".
Next's Linen Scoop Back Mini Shift Dress is perfect for the warmer months. Able to be dressed up with a pair of heels or worn dressed down with some trainers, shift dresses are a great fit for all summer events.
Next's dress comes in six different styles, with a range of prices from the black colour at £24 to a cream and green palm floral print for £38. Other styles include a rust brown Paisley print, a cream, pink, and blue house print, and a mono placement floral design.
The shift dress is made from a lightweight linen-blend and features a scoop back neck, side pockets and a split side hem, Nottinghamshire Live reports.
Made of 70 per cent Livaeco viscose and 30 per cent linen, the dress is machine washable and available in a variety of sizes.
Available in sizes 6 to 26 in regular, 4 to 20 in petite, and 10 to 20 in tall - though some sizes in some of the different prints have sold out or are low in stock.
Alternatively, if you're looking for a longer dress, Next offers a Strappy Tie Front Midi Dress in five different styles, including navy, striped, or gingham. You can currently snap it up for either £39 or £40, depending on the design.
Elsewhere, Boden's Leah Jersey T-Shirt Dress is £52 and available in six different designs, including red and white stripes, several floral designs, and a tropical bonanza print.
But if it's Next's Linen Scoop Back Mini Shift Dress you're after, then you're not the only one. Customers praised its stunning design and how perfect it is for the warmer weather.
One happy shopper said: "Great fitting linen dress. Ideal for the summer months. Good quality. Would recommend buying."
Someone else added: "I'm not normally a dress person, but I was attracted initially by the striking print. I was also really pleased with the fit - skimmed over my less than flat tum, without looking frumpy. Smart, yet casual, ideal for summer."
While a third five-star reviewer added: "Material is soft and comfy to wear on holiday, perfect fit. Bought all designs in same dress. Good value for money as they look more expensive."
However, some customers were a bit put off by the fact that the dress' summer style meant it was unlined.
One buyer said: "The dress is a little see-through, I had planned to wear at a party and dress it up but as it's see-through I won't, but it's good for daytime on holiday."
Another agreed, adding: "As this item is not lined, it's completely see-through when worn, even with flesh coloured underwear. Only suitable as a beach coverup, not for everyday wear."
Fashion deal of the week
Ahead of the summer season, Urban Outfitters has just knocked £20 off a popular dress - and it's perfect for weddings.
The high street retailer's Light Before Dark Bex Printed Midi Slip Dress has rave reviews from shoppers who say it is "flattering in all the right ways". Usually retailing at £62, shoppers can bag it ahead of the warm spell for just £42.
The midi-length dress boasts a few "romantic" details that make it perfect for wearing to fancy functions you have planned. This includes the all-over rose print and delicate lace detailing that both add a touch of femininity.
With its slip-style silhouette, lightweight material and shoulder straps, it is the ultimate breathable and breezy layer for the summer season. A classy v-neckline, cut-out back detail, side zip fastening and rear button fastenings complete the design.
Designed in a baby pink colourway, the Printed Midi Slip Dress will suit pretty much all skin tones and shades. It's also still available in quite a few sizes, with XXS to XL available on the Urban Outfitters website.
The dress averages a 4.3 rating on the Urban Outfitters website, and one glowing review read: " This dress is so gorgeous on! Definitely hugs your figure soooo nicely."
A second delighted shopper wrote in their review: "Fits really well, perfect for summer wedding."
Purchase the Light Before Dark Bex Printed Midi Slip Dress for £42, down from £62, on the Urban Outfitters website here.
However, other shoppers raved about the dress' versatility. One said: "Love it. Classy but casual at the same time. Easy to dress up or down."
A second added: "It's a really striking attractive design. It looks so nice on. It is such a change from small flowery prints."
While someone else commented. "Lovely, simple but stunning dress. I felt slightly oversized so went one size smaller. Could be dressed up or casual. Not too short - came to just above knee on me - 5ft5in."

Top picks from Rochelle Humes' Next summer collection

Writer Nisha Mal has been obsessed with Rochelle Humes' latest Next collection and highlights some of her favourite summer pieces Next has been going big with its summer drop this season. Most notably, the retailer's collection with Rochelle Humes has caught my eye, as it includes some classic, tailored pieces that will withstand micro-trends. The collection consists of timeless linen fabrics, colourful fitted coats, and lightweight summer knits for the UK's unpredictable climes. One of my favourite pieces from the collection is this Neutral Cotton Linen Blend Trophy Jacket, which can be worn throughout the year. Priced at £64, it is great for the office or a fancy dinner on occasions when I don't know what to wear but want to look like I've made an effort. The neutral colour means I can pair it with almost all of the accessories and bags I have in my wardrobe. It can be worn with jeans and trousers, or even a leather mini skirt and tights for wintertime looks. Linen has no give and can often feel restrictive, which one reviewer found: "Not suitable. Material stiff and thick, and the jacket too short." Alternatively, New Look is selling a cropped, boucle trophy jacket which is considerably cheaper at £29.99 (originally £49.99). The navy jacket has chunky gold buttons and a collarless design. In keeping with linen, Next's stunning blue co-ord is also worth shouting about. It comprises a longline sleeveless waistcoat (£39), and then buyers have the choice between either a longline skirt (£34) or a pair of city shorts (£26). The sky blue set is made from a textured finish material. I particularly like the waistcoat, which has a high neck, and is finished with front pockets and a button-down fastening. However, the skirt loses points for me mostly due to its long, ankle-length. Standing at 5ft (5 ft 1 on a good day), it's a shame it isn't offered in petite. If it were a midi or even knee-length, I might get away with it, but seeing as it's so long, there's no chance it's going to fall right on me, unless I get it tailored (a job I will most definitely not do). For shoppers a similar height to me, the set's city shorts are the better choice. For a boho-inspired co-ord look to Nobody's Child, where this Blue Tie Dye set is offered. It comprises a cami with spaghetti straps (£49) and a matching long, floaty skirt (£99). I think this set would look beautiful worn on holiday, or at a festival paired with cowboy boots. Returning to Rochelle Humes' summer collection, this Brown Glossy Satin Maxi co-ord is ideal for upcoming summer weddings and special occasions. It comprises a halterneck top and a long, flowy skirt. Available in regular or petite sizing, the maxi-length skirt is decorated with a polka dot all-over print, and has a floaty pleated skirt (£50). The accompanying blouse (£32) has the exact same print. and has a tie-bow fastening at the back. The skirt has 12 customer reviews, mostly positive; however, one shopper has a warning about the material writing: "Absolutely loved the colour and fit of the skirt but creased so badly." For a casual holiday-inspired set look to Boden, where shoppers can pick up a colourful set comprising a loose-fitting pair of trousers (£120) and a matching, floaty shirt (£80). The Sieena linen set is all-white and features a tropical print all over it, including little banana prints, seashells, lobsters and even a little bird. My last Next pick is this knitted jumper, priced at £35. As we all know, British summertime is mostly a let-down, and having a jumper at hand is useful for on/off downpours. The keyhole design means I won't get overheated, and it's lightweight enough to pop into my handbag without taking up much space. The ecru-white knit comes in sizes small, medium, large, extra large, and extra large. Rochelle pairs it with light-wash jeans and tousled locks, but it'd look equally stylish with denim cut-offs or city shorts. The knit is also available in a blue colourway with pink and green stripes. In the reviews, a buyer praised its design and comfort, writing: "I love this jumper. It's so comfortable. I wanted a jumper that hung well, and this certainly does that. A slightly off-white colour. Worth the money." However, another found it too short, saying: "Loved the jumper but had to return as it was too short on me - I'm only 5ft3." Over at Roman, shoppers can snap up a Crochet Tunic Top (£40) in white, teal, black, and beige. It's the perfect holiday piece to wear over a swimsuit or with shorts. Choose from sizes 10-20.

It can be worn for all occasions, had lots of compliments on this top." Another added: "Nice easy to wear linen blend top. Love the bright colour and pattern and button up back." However, some shoppers expressed dissatisfaction. One mentioned that the top was "too thin", whilst another noted: "Nice item but [it's] far too long. Nice looking but a little too large too." Despite this, a larger proportion of customers praised the various styles. One noted: "Lovely linen blend top. It buttons down the back and has two side slits. Great red and white pattern which looks fab with some white linen pants." A reviewer who purchased multiple tops said: "I've got them all now! [The tops] are comfortable to wear and they look smart as well." Nice length, not cropped fits true to size."

'I've found a linen dress that 'skims mum tum' and is 15% off'

The London-based retailer Boden has slashed the price of its latest womenswear collection by 15% - and the discount code is available to use now. And there's one piece that's been a hit with shoppers The celebrity-adored fashion label Boden has cut a 15% off their new-in womenswear just in time for summer. And there's one particular number that's been turning heads, with customers raving about the shower of compliments they've received, particularly noting how the dress 'skims the mum tum'. Ideal for summer weddings, getaways and any event you could imagine this sunny season, the Anya Sleeveless Linen Dress is being coveted by fashion fans. Boasting a chic and effortless style perfect for sweltering days, its sleeveless design and short hemline will ensure wearers stay breezy and graceful no matter the temperature. Crafted from a blend of 80% linen and 20% recycled linen, complemented by a soft cotton lining, this frock was originally priced at £126, but can be snapped up for a £107.20 with a discount code. Anyone who uses JM7D at the virtual tills will see £18.90 shaved off the price tag. However, if this Boden number isn't quite your cup of tea, or out of budget, there are loads of other linen dresses up for grabs on the high street, such as this Green Abstract Linen-Blend Palermo Mini Dress, available for £55 from Nobody's Child. Elsewhere, Next also has this Cream and Green Palm Floral Scoop Back Mini Shift Dress on offer for £38. Despite its higher price point, the Boden number has earned its stripes with praise for its 'flattering' fit-and-flare design. It even features a self-tie belt which brilliantly cinches in at the waist while elegantly draping over the midriff. One customer said: " So flattering. I got so many compliments on this the first time I wore this." Another added: "I'm 5'4", size 14, mid-40s mum-of-two and my stomach shows it, but not in this dress. Really flattering, and whilst I'd prefer a V-neck, it skims the mum-tum and fits well and is well made and fully lined,' reports the Manchester Evening News. Coming in a size range from 4 to 22, it features discreet side pockets and a gently tailored sleeveless top, the versatile piece can be dressed up or down with ease, making it perfect for everything from office meetings to summer weddings. The dress falls just above the knee, making it an excellent choice for both work and weekend wear. A glowing five-star review read: "I got the brown polka dot style and I love it. My husband also thought it looked amazing on. Would be totally appropriate for work with a cardigan and totally perfect to dress up and down for the summer. Love it!' "I am 5'3" and ordered 6R and 6P. I haven't ordered petite sizing before from Boden but glad I did on this dress. It fits perfectly and the length is just above my knees. Not too short and I think appropriate for work as well. It's very flattering," another customer shared. However, some customers have been left pining for a longer version, particularly those who prefer a bit more coverage. One wrote: "I would love to have kept this dress but just felt it was too short for me. Please make it in a long version. Style, quality of material and make up are excellent and I love the spotted chestnut colour. "A bit pricey but I would have paid it if it had fully suited me. Seemed to be suitable for all occasions, casual or formal. I'm 5ft 4 and size 14. It came to my knees which it's supposed to do but I would prefer it a little longer. Sadly had to return it." The Anya dress from Boden comes in five different colourways, with one shopper loving it so much she said: "I would buy this dress in all colours. Nice fabric and colour. Fits perfect." It comes in a poppy red and pink ornamental floral, as well as chestnut with polka dots, gallery blue, foliage scatter and for those who would prefer to forego a print, a plain rose pink. Fans of the frock can shop the Boden dress here.
