Shocking moment crafty thief snatches hairdresser's £1,300 Samsung mobile
A brazen thief used a crafty technique to swipe a hairdresser's £1,300 mobile phone from under her nose.
Emma Horne was working at her salon in Warrington, Cheshire, when a man clutching a newspaper came in asking for a haircut. After the 42-year-old explained she didn't cut men's hair, he then claimed to be asking for his wife so she walked behind her desk to fetch a price list.
Footage shows the cap-wearing thief take the chance to unfold his newspaper and place it over her Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phone that was sitting on top of the desk. The man can then be seen swiping his newspaper and her pricey mobile off the unit top and making a swift getaway without anyone noticing the device had gone.
Miss Horne said she realised a few minutes after he left - but she and a client couldn't find him when they looked down a nearby street. When they returned to the salon and checked their cameras they found the man's cunning theft was captured on CCTV. The incident has been reported to Cheshire Police and the force have confirmed enquiries are ongoing.
Emma, from Warrington, Cheshire, said: "It happened so fast he was literally in the salon for minutes. I went behind the counter to get a price list for him, then he put the newspaper over my phone and swiped it. It was gone within seconds. I felt angry and I was dead upset because it's the fact that someone came and took my property right in front of my face. He was standing right next to me."
"He actually looks at the cameras and everything so he knew the cameras were there because he looks right at it. About three minutes after he left, I was like, 'where's my phone?'. Panic set in because I've got my whole work schedule and everything on my phone. Everything's just gone.
"I went straight into the bank and put a freeze on my cards because I've got savings accounts and everything on there. I can't access my money now. It happened so fast. The anger is setting in now. I'm quite frustrated with it because I've got to go out and get myself a new phone and everything now. These people think they can go around and do this and get away with it."
Emma says she bought the phone eight months ago and had only recently finished paying for it. She insists she usually welcomes everybody into her salon but believes she'll be more wary of potential customers in future.
Emma said: "I feel a bit wary about things now. He did it so fast, we just didn't see him. It makes you feel a bit uneasy. We've got cameras for our own security and they're still coming in and doing it. We're quite friendly in our salon and we welcome everybody but I suppose you've still got to be on your guard because these people are out there going around nicking phones."
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 11.38am on Tuesday 24 June, police were called to a report of theft at a hair salon in Time Square, Warrington. The caller reported that approximately 30 minutes earlier, an unknown man had entered the salon posing as a client, and stole a mobile phone. Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police."

This mystery could soon be solved after the lawyer for the dead Brit, Yiannis Konstantoudakis, claimed an email about an alleged confession into Steven's apparent murder was sent to Cheshire Police last year, according to The Sun. The ex-wife of a 38-year-old Brit reportedly claimed her former partner admitted to killing Steven in a rant while high on drugs after his body was found in 2017. The ex-wife alleged her partner said he had gotten into a fight with another young man in Malia in 2005 while drunk and the victim died after being hit on the head. She also claimed her ex said he threw the dead body into a well after the alleged brawl. The woman, who has not been named, claimed she had two silver beads from a bracelet allegedly belonging to Steven, from the night he died - the victim's family has not identified the bracelet. The woman claimed her ex had a breakdown after Steven's remains were discovered and even threatened to kill himself. The family's lawyer said he was wary of her claims due to the huge gap between 2017 and now, but added the bombshell information could still be credible. The 38-year-old British man has denied any involvement in Steven's death and told British police he was not in Crete at the same time as the victim, according to local newspaper Parapolitika. Konstantoudakis said he fears the case could be closed in September, despite this alleged major update, if there are no more developments. Cheshire Police told The Sun it "is aware of the developments in the investigation into the death of Steven Cook".

The 38-year-old Brit has denied any involvement in Steven's death, according to local newspaper Parapolitika. When appearing before British authorities, he reportedly claimed he wasn't in Crete in 2005. He described his ex-wife's allegations as "lies". In 2005 there were no systematic passport checks for citizens of the European Union while Great Britain belonged to it. There is a recorded entry of the accused Brit into Greece in 2010 from the airport in Zakynthos. Steven's family were informed of the developments through their lawyer. Mr Konstantoudakis told The Sun of fears that the case could be thrown out in September if there are no major developments. Cheshire Police told The Sun it "is aware of the developments in the investigation into the death of Steven Cook". They added: "At this time, we are working closely with the Greek Authorities and Stevens family who are being supported by specialist officers."
