Musk's xAI apologises after Grok chatbot praises Hitler
After the Tuesday upgrade, Grok praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in the posts on social media platform X, and suggested that people with Jewish surnames were more likely to spread online hate.
X deleted some of those posts several hours later, amid growing outrage.
'We deeply apologise for the horrific behaviour that many experienced,' the company posted on Saturday, adding that it had modified the system 'to prevent further abuse'.
The company said the change occurred after the chatbot was prompted to 'reply to the post just like a human' as well as 'tell like it is and you are not afraid to offend people who are politically correct'.
As a result, Grok became susceptible to users' 'extremist views', which made it produce 'responses containing unethical or controversial opinions to engage the user'.

Inflation rose last month to its highest level since February as President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs are pushing up the cost of a range of goods, including furniture, clothing, and large appliances. Trump has often insisted in comments on social media that there was 'no inflation' and that as a result, the central bank should swiftly reduce its key interest rate from its current level of 4.3 per cent to around 3 per cent. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core inflation increased 2.9 per cent in June from a year earlier, up from 2.8 per cent in May. Manus AI lays off China staff, scrubs social media, shelves mainland service
The company behind the general-purpose artificial intelligence (AI) agent Manus laid off most of its staff in Beijing last week, according to local media reports, amid a reorganisation in line with relocating its headquarters to Singapore Advertisement Logging in returns this message: 'Manus is not available in your region.' 'To improve operational efficiency, we've decided to restructure some business teams,' a statement from the start-up said in response to the lay-offs.
