Update on ex-Patriots QB Joe Milton's performance at Cowboys minicamp
The New England Patriots made a gamble when trading backup quarterback Joe Milton III, along with a seventh-round draft pick, to the Dallas Cowboys for a fifth-round pick.
They essentially moved a promising young quarterback with three years left on his rookie deal for virtually nothing. That decision initially upset some fans, even with all of the excitement surrounding the potential of starter Drake Maye. It seemed like the Patriots were jumping the gun on a move that didn't need to be made in the 2025 offseason.
So what has Milton looked like since the trade to Dallas?
There has been a great deal of buzz and optimism surrounding Milton's potential throughout the spring practices. However, DallasCowboys.com's Tommy Yarrish noted the "Joe Milton experience" showing up at one particular minicamp practice.
Milton's athletic traits are off the charts, but there are occasional off-target throws and indecisiveness from the pocket that can be frustrating at times. Yarrish wrote:
"The Joe Milton experience was back today, with a couple errant throws and taking some time to decide on a target, but some ropes to with one on the move to Ryan Flournoy and another to Mingo in the corner of the endzone for a touchdown."
Milton's inconsistent play is a big reason why he fell to the sixth round in the 2024 NFL draft. He has shown tremendous growth in his short time in the NFL, and his physical talent could ultimately pave the path for him to be a starter one day.
Whether that will be with the Cowboys or not remains to be seen, especially with a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback in Dak Prescott slotted higher on the depth chart. There's a good chance Milton ends up riding the bench the same way he would have done if he stayed in New England.

Ex-New York Giants WR Golden Tate recalls 2020 fight with Rams' Jalen Ramsey
Former New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate was surrounded by controversy throughout his tenure in East Rutherford. It started when he joined the team and was suspended for four games for violating the league's rules on performance-enhancing drugs. Tate appealed the decision, saying it was for fertility, but the NFL denied the appeal. Advertisement Things ended when the Giants released him after the 2020 season, in which Tate often complained about his lack of touches. The other nail in his coffin with the Giants happened after a game against the Los Angeles Rams when he and Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey got into an altercation. Ramsey has two children with Tate's younger sister, Breanna, and Tate took issue with how his sister was being treated. He recently appeared on the "Bussing with the Boys" podcast and opened up about the altercation. "Things happened within that relationship where I don't think my sister was done or treated the way she should have been treated," Tate said. "When that happens, who do you have to come see? You've got to come see Big Bro. I think I might have made it public like he going to have to see me at some point, but it wasn't to the point where I was about to fight him on the field or anything. I guess he took that personal." Advertisement Indeed, Ramsey also took it personally as the two sought each other out after the Giants' 17-9 loss and had it out on the field until they were separated. While the two aren't best friends now, it seems they have at least learned to put their quibbles to the side for the sake of the children involved. "We haven't talked, but I think we both kind of have agreed to not be knuckleheads for the betterment of his daughters and my nieces, and that's kind of where we stand," he said. "I do think he's grown as a man. I know I've grown as a man. I made mistakes as a youngin' as well, so I do think he has gotten better. I do provide grace in that area, but that's still baby sis, right?" After his release from the Giants, Tate signed with the Tennessee Titans' practice squad before retiring from the NFL. Fan dressed as Saquon Barkley's backwards hurdle wins Fanatics Fest contest
No play during the 2024 NFL season was more iconic than Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley's backwards hurdle in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. And now, one creative fan has leveraged his unique take on the play into tickets to the Super Bowl, World Cup Final and Wrestlemania 42. Eagles fan JJ Nesheiwat showed up to last weekend's Fanatics Fest wearing a Jaguars jersey and holding a mannequin wearing a Barkley jersey and Eagles helmet over his head in a "reverse hurdle" posture. Thanks to the outfit, Nesheiwat got a chance to meet Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean, who posed with him for a picture. Advertisement Fanatics announced via social media on Monday, June 23 that Nesheiwat's costume also had won him the weekend's "Best Dressed Fan" award, meaning he'd also receive free tickets to the Super Bowl, World Cup final and Wrestlemania 42.
