Jesse Love takes Xfinity Series victory in Rockingham return

Yahoo19-04-2025

After surviving a NASCAR Overtime restart, Richard Childress Racing's Jesse Love won the first Xfinity Series race at Rockingham Speedway in over two decades.
In the 256-lap event, the driver of the No. 2 Chevrolet led a race-high 77 laps to pick up his second Xfinity Series win of the 2025 season.

Sammy Smith, Parker Retzlaff, Harrison Burton and Brennan Poole rounded out the top five.
Taylor Gray, Austin Hill, Josh Williams, Jeb Burton and Daniel Dye completed the top 10.

With a second-place finish, Smith picked up the final $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus prize of the year.
The red flag came out after a wreck on the restart with 10 laps remaining. With drivers close on fuel, Kaulig Racing's Christian Eckes sputtered coming up to speed, causing a multicar incident that swept up Dash 4 Cash drivers Justin Allgaier and Brandon Jones. That led to another late-race stoppage.

Jones and Allgaier finished 13th and 22nd, respectively. The final Dash 4 Cash competitor, Carson Kvapil, finished 17th.
The Xfinity Series returns to action next Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway for the Ag-Pro 300 (4 p.m. ET, The CW, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

General Motors to add Mexico-built Chevrolet Blazer to Tennessee production line in 2027

General Motors announced Tuesday plans to invest $4 billion through 2027 to increase U.S. production facilities for gas and electric vehicles, including in Tennessee. Expanded operations in Michigan, Kansas and Tennessee will focus on "finished vehicle production of several of GM's most popular vehicles," the company said. The new investment is in addition to $888 million recently announced for the next-generation V-8 engine Tonawanda Propulsion plant near Buffalo, New York. The move comes in response to newly imposed 25% tariffs on imported vehicles. The General Motors Spring Hill Plant will begin building the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer in 2027, company officials said. It currently produces the Cadillac Lyriq and Visitiq EVs, and the Cadillac XT5. The gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer are both currently produced in Mexico. The vehicles will continue to be built in Mexico even once production starts at U.S. facilities in order to supply markets outside of North America, according to a company source. Company officials said they plan to ramp up to build more than two million vehicles each year in the U.S. At Orion Assembly in Michigan, GM plans to build gas-powered full-size SUVs and light duty pickup trucks starting in 2027. "As a result, GM's Factory Zero in Detroit-Hamtramck, Michigan will be the dedicated assembly location for the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV," GM officials said in a statement. The gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox will start production in mid-2027 at the Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas. "Fairfax remains on track to begin building the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV by the end of this year. GM expects to make new future investments in Fairfax for GM's next generation of affordable EVs," the company said. In November, GM announced layoffs of about 1,000 employees nationwide following lower than expected demand for electric vehicles. Company officials did not specify where the cuts were made, but its Tennessee facilities appeared unaffected. The company operates 50 U.S. manufacturing plants and parts facilities in 19 states. "We believe the future of transportation will be driven by American innovation and manufacturing expertise,' said GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra. "Today's announcement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to build vehicles in the U.S and to support American jobs. We're focused on giving customers choice and offering a broad range of vehicles they love." — Reuters contributed to this report. GM's EV Sales Are Booming. But Can It Catch Tesla?

If you work on any of GM's electric vehicles, give yourself a pat on the back. This past week, the company released a full list of EV sales figures for the first quarter of 2025, and the numbers are shockingly good (pun intended). GM has already delivered more than 62,000 EVs in the US through May, with last month being the second-best in the automaker's history for EV sales. That marks an impressive 94 percent year-over-year increase. GM achieved a 15.5-percent EV market share in Q1, putting it in second place domestically, just behind Tesla. The question is: Can GM take the crown before the end of 2025? GM Vs Tesla Chevrolet Equinox EV While those numbers are impressive for GM, the company still has a way to go if it wants to catch Tesla . According to Cox Automotive , Tesla sold an estimated 128,100 electric vehicles between January and May—nearly double what GM has sold. And that's with an 8.6-percent decrease year-over-year. Tesla also recently introduced the updated Model Y and has plans for more models later in the year. Through April, though, GM's EV sales were up a whopping 94 percent, spearheaded largely by Cadillac and Chevrolet. Cadillac's EVs were up by 37 percent, while Chevy's EV sales improved by an impressive 119 percent, led by the Blazer EV and Equinox EV. GMC also saw a large bump in sales from the Hummer EV and electric Sierra pickup. Sales (Through May) Percent +/- General Motors 62,000 Units +94% Tesla 128,100 Units -8.6% GM currently offers 13 electric vehicles throughout its portfolio of brands, ranging from compact SUVs to trucks. Chevrolet alone has become the fastest-growing EV brand of the group, with more than 37,000 vehicles sold through May. That edges out Ford, which moved just 34,000 EVs in the same period. Chevrolet currently has three EVs in its portfolio: The Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV (not counting the BrightDrop electric cargo van). "Customers are responding in record numbers to our world-class portfolio of electric and gas-powered vehicles," notes Rory Harvey, executive VP and president of global markets. GM's Best Gas Sellers 2025 Buick Enclave Photo by: Buick It's not just the EV side of the business that's seeing sustained success. GM's massive portfolio of gas and hybrid vehicles is also seeing record numbers already this year. Buick was one of the biggest movers early in 2025. Sales for the luxury automaker were up 39 percent through April, with the Enclave, Encore GX, and Envista being the brand's top sellers. The new Enclave alone was up 39 percent—the nameplate's best sales quarter since 2019. As a whole, this was Buick's best sales quarter since 2006. Cadillac wasn't far behind with a sales increase of 21 percent, marking nearly three straight years of retail sales growth. The Escalade had its best Q1 to date, as did Cadillac's V-Series performance cars—likely aided by the arrival of the updated Blackwing models. All told, Cadillac reeled in its best retail market share since 2014. Percent +/- Buick +39% Cadillac +21% Chevrolet +14% GMC +18% GMC had its best sales quarter ever, with an 18 percent increase. The Sierra was up 13 percent, and the Canyon jumped an impressive 66 percent. But the Acadia was the brand's biggest mover, improving by 73 percent. The Yukon and Yukon XL also had their best sales quarters since 2007, improving by 29 percent. By percentages, Chevrolet saw the smallest increase—just 14 percent. But, it was still the brand's best quarter since 2019. The new Trax was up 57 percent, the Traverse jumped by 62 percent, and the Colorado pickup improved by 73 percent. This also marked the best Q1 for the Tahoe since 2007, with a 28 percent increase. There's still plenty of time in the year to see how GM fairs, but so far, the automaker is clearly on the right track. 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV Review, Pricing, and Specs

Overview Chevy's entry-level electric offering isn't the most exciting EV out there, but it meets the needs of folks who want a compact crossover with a plug. You'll get the best range with the 220-hp front-wheel-drive powertrain, but it leaves a bit to be desired in terms of acceleration. Go for all-wheel drive, and you get 300 hp and a 307-mile range, which should be plenty for normal daily use and won't have you stopping too often on road trips. And if you opt for GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system, you'll arrive that much more refreshed. For a more exciting electric Chevy SUV, check out the larger Blazer EV. What's New for 2026? There are few changes for the Equinox EV this year, but a Midnight appearance package is now available on LT models and includes black wheels and dark exterior trim. Mid-range RS trims can now be had in a monotone paint scheme instead of being locked into having a black roof. Polar White Tricoat replaces Iridescent Pearl Tricoat on the options sheet and all models now come with a dual level charging cable. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV is expected to start around $35,000 and go up to $49,000 depending on the trim and options. LT FWD $35,000 (est) LT AWD $41,000 (est) RS FWD $45,000 (est) RS AWD $49,000 (est) 0 $10k $20k $30k $40k $50k $60k $70k $80k The base price of LT FWD is tempting, but we'd make sure to check the box for the more powerful all-wheel-drive powertrain. Then we'd add the Comfort and Active Safety 2 packages, as that gets you heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, and a handful of driver-assistance features. Want to compare the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV to other vehicles you're interested in? Our new compare tool provides a comprehensive, side-by-side look at up to five cars of your choice. Compare Cars EV Motor, Power, and Performance Front-wheel-drive Equinox EVs come with a single electric motor that makes 220 horsepower; opting for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive system ups the power to 300 ponies. The front-wheel-drive powertrain doesn't exhibit the same kind of immediate thrust that's typical of electric motors, and we found it sluggish in our drive of the Equinox EV. We recommend the all-wheel-drive setup, which is significantly more potent and gives the Equinox EV a more energetic demeanor. Ride quality is comfortable, the steering is well-weighted, and we like that you can select from among multiple levels of regenerative braking, including a one-pedal driving mode. 0–60-MPH Times At our test track, the front-wheel-drive Equinox EV put down a 60-mph time of 7.7 seconds, which is comparable to gas-powered compact-SUV competitors. The all-wheel-drive model was significantly quicker, getting to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. View Photos Michael Simari | Car and Driver Range, Charging, and Battery Life All Equinox EV models have the same size battery pack, although the range estimates vary depending on powertrain configuration. Front-wheel-drive models offer up to 319 miles of range per EPA estimates, while the all-wheel-drive version drops that down to 307 miles. In our real-world 75-mph highway range test, both versions of the Equinox EV delivered a result of 260 miles, which we think comes down to the different wheels and tires on our test cars. All models come with DC fast-charging capability, which Chevrolet says can add 70 miles of range to the battery in as little as 10 minutes. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe The EPA hasn't released any fuel economy information for the 2026 Equinox EV yet, but the 2025 model earned ratings of 109 MPGe combined for the front-wheel-drive model and up to 103 MPGe combined for the all-wheel-drive version. In our 75-mph real-world highway fuel-economy test of the all-wheel-drive Equinox EV, we recorded a result of 91 MPGe, slightly beating the EPA's 88 MPGe highway estimate. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. For more information about the Equinox EV's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo At 57 cubic feet with the rear seat stowed, the Equinox EV's cargo capacity isn't quite as capacious as the gasoline-powered model's, but the rest of the interior feels about as roomy. Inside, buyers will find a digital dashboard similar to that of the Silverado EV as well as a large 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. Base models are fairly basic and lack even power-adjustable front seats, but moving up to the higher LT trims or RS models unlocks plenty of features, including heated seats, power seats, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. Opt for an RS and you can order the saucy Adrenaline Red interior theme. View Photos Michael Simari | Car and Driver Infotainment and Connectivity Every Equinox EV comes with an 11.0-inch digital gauge display with a 17.7-inch secondary touchscreen for infotainment. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-mirroring capabilities are not offered, but the infotainment system does include built-in apps such as Google Maps and Spotify, and uplevel models get in-dash navigation and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Safety and Driver-Assistance Features All models ship with basic driver-assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist. For buyers seeking the most up-to-date tech, the Equinox EV is offered with GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system. For more information about the Equinox EV's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include: Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist Available adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode Warranty and Maintenance Coverage Chevrolet provides standard coverage limits for the Equinox EV's electric powertrain components. It also includes the first maintenance visit, but overall coverage doesn't come close to that of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
