Early morning explosion at Regina's Co-Op refinery rocks homes, rattles nerves
People living in Regina's north end were awoken early this morning by an explosion at Regina's Consumers' Cooperative Refinery main plant that shook homes as far as two kilometres away.
The explosion happened at about 4:45 a.m. CST Tuesday near gate number three on 9th Ave. N near McDonald Street.
Emergency alarm horns were activated and could be heard across the north end of the city for more than 15 minutes.
There's no word yet on what caused the blast, but a fire was still burning at six a.m CST.
A spokesperson for the Regina Fire Department says they were called in to assist the refinery's firefighters and that no structures were involved in the explosion.
The Regina fire department says after the initial explosion crews were burning off extra product in the lines, but no high pressure lines were involved in the fire.
As of six a.m. CST there were no injuries reported in the blast.

Teenage boy hurt in racially aggravated assault
A teenage boy has been injured in an racially aggravated assault at a London Underground station, police have said. British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Hampstead Tube station on Monday evening, following a report of an assault and robbery. The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was discharged later, BTP said. The force has confirmed it is investigating the incident as racially motivated and has appealed for information. A Jewish security charity, Shomrim neighbourhood watch, posted on social media the day after the incident that "three Jewish boys were threatened with a knife by six or seven suspects". Community Security Trust (CST), a charity with the remit of "protecting British Jews from terrorism and antisemitism", said in a statement: "We are aware of the appalling racist assault on a group of Jewish boys that took place at Hampstead Station on 26 May. "CST is in contact with one of the victims' families and is providing them with support. "CST is also in contact with the British Transport Police and Transport for London as the investigation continues. "We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to contact the police or CST as soon as possible." Southwest Airlines flight abruptly rises to avoid another plane crossing Chicago runway
CHICAGO (AP) — Pilots on a Southwest Airlines flight attempting to land at Chicago's Midway Airport were forced to make the plane climb suddenly to avoid another aircraft crossing the runway. Airport webcam video posted to X shows the Southwest plane appear to briefly touch down about 8:50 a.m. CST Tuesday before its nose was abruptly pulled up as the second plane is seen on the runway. Southwest Flight 2504 safely landed 'after the crew performed a precautionary go-around to avoid a possible conflict with another aircraft that entered the runway,' an airline spokesperson said in an email.
