'I ended my romance to lose weight - 12st later, I'm unrecognisable'

At his heaviest, Finley Tyson was 27st but the 25-year-old transformation over the past 18 months has been so staggering even his friends struggle to recognise him
Finley Tyson found it tough to even just look in the mirror two years ago. At his heaviest, the Leicestershire resident weighed 27 stone, but has now shed an impressive 14st and 9lbs, with most of the loss following a breakup.

In December 2023, Finley made a firm decision to revamp his lifestyle for good, starting with ending his two-year relationship. Speaking to What's The Jam, he revealed:'The relationship ended mainly because I knew what I needed to do to lose the weight.

'And I didn't see how I could do it in a relationship. I was holding the other person back due to my insecurities with being overweight. I didn't aim particularly to have a glow, I just wanted to be healthier and feel better within myself.

'I definitely used to lack confidence. I would always wear jumpers and struggled to look in the mirror.'
The design and technical lead embarked on his journey by swapping full sugar drinks for diet versions, replacing fast food with home-cooked meals, and stocking up on burritos and granola bars. He confessed: "I have a crazy sweet tooth, so sugary drinks and sweets and chocolate were my biggest problem."

Before his life-altering breakup, Finley's daily menu was laden with McMuffins for breakfast, cheese toasties for lunch, pizza for dinner, and a constant stream of sweets or chocolate as snacks. Now, the Ashby-de-la-Zouch local has completely cut out his evening meal.
Finley has embraced intermittent fasting, eating only between 7am and 1pm and opting for gym sessions over dinner. His rigorous weightlifting routine lasts around an hour and 15 minutes, followed by half an hour of cardio.
Even on days off, he's at the gym working up a sweat on the stair master or treadmill rather than lifting weights. Reflecting on his transformation, the 25 year old shared: "My relationships and general life have improved drastically, and I'm so much more confident in my body. It has had such an impact on every aspect of my life and health."
Finley also took to TikTok to document his impressive weight loss journey, garnering heaps of support, with some followers humorously asking 'will someone break up with me?' to achieve similar results. Finley said:'I've tried not to look at comments too much. A lot are about the idea of a person in a relationship having to work on themselves during not after, but sometimes it doesn't work like that, and everyone's circumstances are different.
'I don't really care much about negativity, I've worked too hard on myself to care about negative opinions. People always congratulate me on the work I have put in, and most people regularly see how hard I worked to get to where I am.'

I'm a single mum-of-7 to kids aged 1 to 16 – my ‘no spend' summer holiday days are made so much easier with a £5 B&M buy

Scroll down for the full list of places where kids can eat free this summer NO KIDDING I'm a single mum-of-7 to kids aged 1 to 16 – my 'no spend' summer holiday days are made so much easier with a £5 B&M buy Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SINGLE mum-of-seven who is aiming to spend no money on some days during the school summer holidays, has revealed the £5 B&M buy that keeps her kids entertained for hours. Amy, who has children aged between one and 16, took to TikTok to share how she is able to keep her kids busy for a whole day without spending any money. "We went for a walk for about an hour and a half and left the teenagers in bed", she said. After returning home, the younger kids played with kinetic sand for half an hour, before the family had lunch. After lunch, Amy took her younger ones out for another walk and her daughters decided to take their B&M Water Blaster backpacks with them. The nifty backpacks have water guns attached to them, so kids can have water fights whilst out and about. Amy said she got her kids' pink mermaid backpacks for £5 from the budget store, but online it currently looks like they are only selling Marvel water backpacks, priced at £8.99. Unfortunately, one of Amy's younger daughters was too small for the backpack, but she was happy carrying around a little spray bottle. During their walk, the kids also went to the park, and on a hunt for blackberries to pick. They managed to find a whole bush full of ripe berries, took them home and then gave them a good wash, before making a fruit crumble. The kids were happy and entertained for the entire day, and Amy didn't have to spend a single penny. I bought two splash pads from Temu and TikTok shop for £9.99 for my kids to compare - one of them is HUGE for the price The video, posted under the username @singlewithseven, has likely left many impressed, as it has racked up over 24,000 views on the video-sharing platform. TikTok users raced to the video sharing platform, to share how impressed they were with Amy's no spend day. One person said: "Aw I love this! Savvy homeowner shows ‘best Ikea hack yet' as she saves almost £2k on cheap LED shelving & elevates it using £3 lights

DRAB TO FAB Savvy homeowner shows 'best Ikea hack yet' as she saves almost £2k on cheap LED shelving & elevates it using £3 lights Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SAVVY homeowner has been hailed a genius after sharing what fans are calling the 'best IKEA hack yet". Gemma Markland, a home renovator who shares her stunning transformations on TikTok under Markland Home, wowed viewers with her ultra-chic built-in shelving display made entirely from budget buys. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 A Savvy homeowner showed off her 'best Ikea hack yet' Credit: Tiktok/@themarklandhome 2 She saved almost £2,000 creating her own built-in bookcase Credit: Tiktok/@themarklandhome Using two BAGGEBO bookcases from IKEA, which start from just £25 a pop, Gemma built a sleek and stylish LED shelving feature that looks like it came straight out of a designer showroom. She carefully positioned the flat-pack shelves side-by-side, then used thin wooden boards to frame around the units, giving them a high-end, custom-built finish. After securing everything in place, she painted the entire unit, including the added trim, so it blended seamlessly into the wall. To take the look to the next level, she added a clever lighting trick that set social media alight. The final result was a luxe LED shelving unit that looks worth thousands, for just a fraction of the cost. 'Everyone's been asking about the lights,' she said in a follow-up video. 'They're from Amazon, just £3 each. You peel the stickers off the back and pop them into the shelves exactly where you want them.' The tiny lights are USB-chargeable, so no wiring is needed, and come with a motion sensor setting to save battery. The lights come in warm white, neutral white or cool white. 'They're even dimmable. It's made this space look so much more luxurious.' I swear by 7 cheap hacks to transform a newbuild house into a home - your shoes will never be left in a messy pile again And she's not wrong. Similar built-in shelving features with LED lighting can cost upwards of £2,000 from furniture specialists, while even cheaper pre-lit versions retail for around £800. By DIY-ing the project, Gemma has saved herself hundreds and won plenty of fans online. 'I love this,' one viewer gushed. Another added: 'This looks so beautiful and creative.' A third wrote: 'Stunning, it looks really expensive.' Gemma's viral IKEA hack proves you don't need a big budget to create a high-end look, just a bit of imagination, some clever lighting, and a trip to IKEA. She's not the only nifty homeowner showing off Ikea hacks. A mum has given her son's bedroom the ultimate makeover on a budget. Nichola Ryan was able to give her son's tiny room the ultimate transformation and even make sure he had more space too, The mum took to social media and posted a photo of her jaw-dropping project on DIY On A Budget, a private Facebook group with 2.2 million members. The DIY fan showed off the new room which featured navy walls along with a wooden panelled feature wall. However, the room was so small that it was difficult for the mum to find storage solutions that would fit in it. Luckily, she stumbled across a hack that meant she could turn the bed into a storage unit as well. Instead of buying a brand new bedframe for the transformation, she instead headed to Ikea to pick up a Kallax unit. The cubed storage unit costs £50 and the mum picked up two of them to turn it into the bedframe. Elsewhere, a clever shopper explained how she took advantage of Ikea's Buyback scheme and managed to get £164.50 back for a set of drawers she purchased two years ago.

Is this colour the secret to a proposal? Princess Diana's niece adds fuel to the theory

As Princess Diana's lookalike niece, Lady Eliza Spencer, gets engaged, we look at why her outfit-of-choice may have prompted the proposal Princess Diana's niece, Lady Eliza Spencer, has officially said 'yes'– and her proposal look is turning into a talked-about style moment. At age 33, Eliza accepted longtime partner Channing Millerd's proposal during a romantic Santorini getaway, announcing the happy news via Instagram with the caption 'Forever and Ever'. In the romantic snaps, Eliza, who bears a striking resemblance to her aunt Diana, stands in a deep red satin midaxi dress, simple sandals and delicate gold jewellery. The bold red hue immediately brings to mind the so-called 'red nail theory', or more broadly, the 'romantic red effect'. TikTok users and colour psychologists suggest wearing red can increase perceived attractiveness or even spur proposals, partly because red is linked to confidence, passion and subliminal cues. This theory has now widely circulated on social media, and can be traced all the way back to 2021 when US influencer Bridget Bahl got engaged to her now-husband with bright red nails. She went on to say that she believed the red colour played a big part in the proposal happening that weekend, since she'd worn neutral nails for months around that weekend in the hope of a proposal. Despite mixed (alright, very little) scientific backing, it's clear that red still feels loaded with symbolic power. Lady Eliza's choice feels deliberate, and at the very least, incredibly chic. It's no secret that red evokes romance and boldness, and an already devoted partner might just feel inspired. Whether or not it triggered the proposal, a red dress in that Greek sunset light made the whole moment feel almost cinematic. Lady Eliza follows in the glam footsteps of her aunt, the late Princess Diana, who also favoured a red nail and a red dress combination. Most famously, her look for the ballet in March 1992 (just a few months before Eliza was born) showed how the colour can be worn to look regal and romantic, rather than harsh. So, whether she was mimicking her aunt's style, subtly prompting a proposal, or just dressing for the romantic scenery, we think Lady Eliza's dress choice was the perfect one for the occasion. So if you have a special (or hopefully a special) date coming up that you want to look your best for, here's how to shop her look. Shop Lady Eliza's red engagement dress Her exact dress looks to be Reformation's Casette Silk Dress in the deep red shade, £348, however, the red shade has sold out. You can pick up the midaxi piece in six other shades, though, should you like that exact silhouette. For an almost identical alternative to the red dress she wears in the engagement photos, Reiss' Alula Back Detail Midi Dress in Red, £240, is an excellent pick. If you're looking for a cheaper lookalike, Pretty Little Thing's Red Satin High Neck Ruched Detail Dress, £32, will give you Lady Eliza's look for less. And of course, for nails, you can beat Essie's iconic Not Red-y For Bed, £8.99.
