Spain invests 8.4 mln euros to boost global presence of its food, gastronomy
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and Spain Export and Investment (ICEX) have signed a new cooperation agreement on Monday to fund the program through Sept. 30, 2026.
The agreement "broadens the initiative's reach to cover the foundation of the food chain, such as livestock and fish farming," Maria Naranjo, director of the food industry at ICEX, told Xinhua on Friday.
"We want a common agricultural policy for our farmers and our livestock breeders that is well-funded for the future and also has its own institutional personality," Agriculture Minister Luis Planas said in a Europe Day video message shared with Xinhua.
Originally launched in 2020, the "Food Nation" project aims to reinforce Spain's image as a global supplier of quality, safe, and trustworthy food, while cementing its reputation as a leader in world gastronomy.
The new edition will concentrate efforts on strategic markets such as China, Japan, Morocco and Mexico, while exploring new opportunities in Algeria and Serbia.
To support Spanish food companies further, the initiative will establish advisory councils to deliver targeted market intelligence in key countries including China, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
A central pillar of "Food Nation VI" will be the use of gastronomy as a vehicle for promotion. Two high-profile international campaigns -- Eat Spain, Drink Spain and Restaurants from Spain -- will target consumers in 15 countries. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollar)

Indonesia delivers first used cooking oil-based aviation fuel shipment
JAKARTA: Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina has completed its first delivery of aircraft fuel made from used cooking oil, Deputy President Director Oki Muraza (pic) said on Tuesday (Aug 12), reported Xinhua. The sustainable aviation fuel, totalling 32 kilolitres, was produced at Pertamina's refinery in Cilacap regency, Central Java Province, Muraza said. "We will continue expanding co-processing capacity at other refineries, including those in Dumai, Riau Province, and Balongan, West Java Province, to position Indonesia as a regional hub for environmentally friendly fuels," he told a press conference in Cilacap. He said the milestone strengthens Indonesia's efforts to shift its energy sources from fossil fuels to clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. The delivery also highlights the country's advancements in clean energy processing technology, utilising vegetable oil resources and waste from used cooking oil. The Indonesian government has been striving to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and promote clean energy. Cambodian capital's new airport ready for official operations next month
KANDAL, Cambodia: Techo International Airport (TIA), which is the new airport for Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, is ready for official operations on Sept. 9 after the construction has been 100 per cent completed, a civil aviation chief said on Monday (Aug 11). Mao Havannall, minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said the TIA will conduct a final test flight of the Airbus 320 aircraft on Friday, Aug. 15. "On Sept. 9 at 7:00 a.m. (local time), we will issue an official document publicly on the operations of the 4F-level Techo International Airport here," he told reporters during a final inspection tour of the airport. However, the TIA's official inauguration ceremony will be held on Oct. 20 under the auspices of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, he said. "At this 4F-level new airport, it can accommodate the landing of giant-scale aircraft such as Airbus A380," he said. Havannall said the TIA is capable of handling up to 13 million passengers a year in the first phase. Work on the airport project began in 2020, with China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) being the contractor. Invested by Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd, the US$1.5-billion airport has been developed on an area of 2,600 hectares in southern Kandal and Takeo provinces, about 20 km from the capital Phnom Penh. The TIA is classified as a 4F-level airport, which is the highest level in the world. Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia chapter, said the new airport will enhance Cambodia's image as a modern and accessible destination. "Techo International Airport is poised to play a vital role in shaping Cambodia's future, enhancing its global presence and supporting sustainable economic growth," he told Xinhua.
