Katy Perry fined for filming video in protected Ibiza nature reserve
Last summer, the 40‑year‑old pop star shot scenes for her single Lifetimes in Ses Salines Natural Park, a Unesco‑recognised reserve spanning 40,000 acres of land and sea across Ibiza and Formentera. A permit from Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is required simply to enter the area's delicate zones, which are vital for nesting migratory birds. Authorities have confirmed Perry's production company failed to secure the necessary authorisation. As reported by the Majorca Daily Bulletin, they were fined €6,001 – a penalty that has already been paid. Officials described the breach as 'serious', albeit with no evidence of lasting damage to the ecosystem. This latest blow to Perry comes amid disappointing record and ticket sales this year. In June, she also confirmed the end of her on-off nine-year relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a four-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. In a joint statement, they pledged to focus on co‑parenting moving forward. Earlier this month, Perry was spotted out with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. Perry also courted controversy earlier this year following a much‑publicised trip to space. In April, she joined Blue Origin's NS‑31 mission – an all‑women sub‑orbital flight touted as a milestone in women's representation in space. The launch drew a firestorm of criticism, with celebrities including Olivia Munn, Emily Ratajkowski, Amy Schumer and Olivia Wilde denouncing the venture as tone‑deaf, environmentally hypocritical, and out of touch amid global economic strain. Environmental commentators and scientists added that celebrity space tourism – while glamorous – sends the wrong message, and that it undermines public motivation to act on climate change by highlighting excessive high‑carbon behaviour. In response, Perry expressed being 'disheartened' by how the mission shifted into a 'public spectacle', though she maintained she felt it was 'life‑changing' and meaningful. Among critics was Lily Allen, who later apologised, acknowledging her comments were 'unnecessarily harsh' and tied to her own internalised misogyny.

Egypt, Spain explore enhanced agricultural cooperation
Alaa Farouk, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, met with his Spanish counterpart, Luis Planas, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. The meeting is part of Egypt's broader strategy to reinforce ties with EU nations and enhance the international presence of its agricultural exports. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 6th Conference of African and European Union Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security, held at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations headquarters in Rome. The ministers focused on key issues essential for bolstering food security and promoting sustainable agricultural development. Central to the talks were water management strategies, particularly efficient usage practices, and the implementation of advanced field irrigation systems. Farouk underscored the importance of partnering with Spain to introduce cutting-edge technologies in smart agriculture and modern irrigation methods. He also highlighted opportunities for knowledge exchange across agricultural value chains and encouraged increased Spanish investment in Egypt's agri-business sector. Planas, in turn, commended the exceptional quality of Egyptian agricultural products and their rising profile in international markets. He expressed keen interest in enhancing trade in agricultural and food commodities between the two countries and extended a formal invitation to Farouk to visit Spain later this year, notably to attend a major agricultural exhibition set to take place in Madrid. Also present at the meeting were Saad Moussa, Head of External Agricultural Relations, and Mina Rizk, Egypt's Deputy Representative to UN Agencies in Rome.

Spain invests 8.4 mln euros to boost global presence of its food, gastronomy
BARCELONA, Spain, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Spain is investing 8.4 million euros (9.46 million U.S. dollars) in a fresh push to elevate its global standing in food and gastronomy through the sixth edition of its "Food Nation" initiative, authorities announced. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and Spain Export and Investment (ICEX) have signed a new cooperation agreement on Monday to fund the program through Sept. 30, 2026. The agreement "broadens the initiative's reach to cover the foundation of the food chain, such as livestock and fish farming," Maria Naranjo, director of the food industry at ICEX, told Xinhua on Friday. "We want a common agricultural policy for our farmers and our livestock breeders that is well-funded for the future and also has its own institutional personality," Agriculture Minister Luis Planas said in a Europe Day video message shared with Xinhua. Originally launched in 2020, the "Food Nation" project aims to reinforce Spain's image as a global supplier of quality, safe, and trustworthy food, while cementing its reputation as a leader in world gastronomy. The new edition will concentrate efforts on strategic markets such as China, Japan, Morocco and Mexico, while exploring new opportunities in Algeria and Serbia. To support Spanish food companies further, the initiative will establish advisory councils to deliver targeted market intelligence in key countries including China, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom. A central pillar of "Food Nation VI" will be the use of gastronomy as a vehicle for promotion. Two high-profile international campaigns -- Eat Spain, Drink Spain and Restaurants from Spain -- will target consumers in 15 countries. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollar)
