Heroes honored for assisting shooting victim at Snellville park
Snellville police say they are getting closer to finding the shooters from a violent weekend that led to six people being shot at Briscoe Park.
While police look for who's responsible for the shootings, they're also increasing patrols at the park.
Two witnesses who ran toward the danger are being hailed as heroes.
Nine days after the shooting, Snellville residents were still processing what happened at Briscoe Park.
'These acts of violence have no place in our city,' Mayor Barbara Bender said at Monday night's City Council meeting.

The meeting turned into an unexpected moment of recognition for two men who ran toward the gunfire to help a shooting victim until first responders arrived.
'We are blessed to have heroes among us, and I just want to say thank you to the two gentlemen who showed their true colors,' Mayor Pro Tem Todd Warner said at the meeting.
CJ Pitt and his father-in-law, Antonio Brito, had no idea they'd be getting a proclamation that night.
They said they just did what felt right when bullets started flying at the park.
The shooting investigation is progressing. 'Detectives are working around the clock, following up on tips and reviewing evidence while progress is being made,' Bender said.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for the suspect in Sunday's domestic violence shooting. It happened as families watched flag football games nearby.
Five teens were shot in a separate shooting last Saturday night that forced families to run for cover.
The community says they've noticed increased police patrols and the promise to address lighting at night.
'Thank you for increasing police, security, making sure we have light,' resident Cat Hardrick said at the meeting.
Police say all the victims shot last weekend are expected to recover.

Metro Atlanta parents ‘made a dumb decision' by giving 1-year-old beer, report says
A dinner date at a Coweta restaurant led to the arrest of a couple. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On June 3, Coweta County deputies were called to the Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom on Fischer Crossing regarding a suspicious person. When the deputy arrived, he met with a manager who pointed out a man in the parking lot, saying he was giving the baby in the back seat beer at the bar. The manager informed the deputy he had video of the incident. The deputy made contact with the man, later identified as 34-year-old Craig Banks. According to the report, Banks had a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. Banks told the deputy that he had been at the restaurant for about an hour. According to the report, while speaking with Banks, he asked why the deputy was talking to him and when the deputy responded, Banks said, 'My baby is one, why the [expletive] would I do that?' Banks told the deputy he and his wife, identified as Paetyn Gregory, 30, went to the restaurant to have one drink. The bartender said Banks ordered a 23-ounce Yuengling Beer. While holding the child, Gregory explained to the deputy, they hadn't been drinking, and she gave the child a sip of her tea, and she knew nothing about the child drinking beer. According to the report, it happened about six times, each time the bartender turned around. Gregory gave the baby to the father to get a high chair and continued to give the child beer, authorities said. Once Gregory came back with the chair, Banks put the child in the chair, looked over to see if anyone was looking, and continued to give the child beer out of his glass as the child's mother was still watching and laughing, according to the report. Deputies said Gregory was seen on video laughing the whole time Banks was giving the kid the beer, after telling officers she didn't think about it. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter] Deputies went back outside and arrested Banks. When deputies asked Gregory about the incident, she said, 'She wasn't thinking and made a dumb decision.' She told deputies the child turned one last month. She was then arrested. Both parents were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They were booked into the Coweta County Jail. The child was picked turned over into the care of a grandparent.

Traffic Alert: Deadly crash in Yulee closes parts of U.S. 17
Drivers in Yulee are being asked to avoid the area at Goodbread Road and U.S. 17. Parts of U.S. 17 are closed in both directions because of a deadly crash. Nassau County deputies are redirecting traffic. Drivers are being turned around at U.S. 17 and County Road 218. The Florida Highway Patrol is also on the scene. Horses, donkeys, pigs, goats and more rescued from north Georgia home
A north Georgia couple is facing nearly two dozen charges after a welfare check on some horses that appeared malnourished. Walker County Animal Control says they were called to a home on Manor Lane near Rossville after complaints about some horses. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Raul Rodriguez, 47, was arrested and charged with 12 counts of cruelty to animals. Belinda Rodriguez, 56, was charged with 11 counts of cruelty to animals. Investigators say several animals at the home were emaciated and had not been given enough food to sustain a healthy body weight. Some of the animals were also missing fur and had open leg wounds and inflamed skin.
