Armyman Gulveer Singh won the gold medal in men's 10,000m in challenging conditions on the first day of the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea. The hot and humid weather did not deter the Hangzhou Asian Games medallist from achieving this victory on Tuesday.
By winning his first gold in a continental meet, Gulveer joined the elite company of Hari Chand (1975) and G Lakshmanan (2017) as the third Indian to clinch top honours in the men's 10,000m at this level.

The 26-year-old from Western UP's Atrauli district completed the 25-lap event in 28:38.63s, a little way off his personal best of 27:00.22s set in March. He, however, failed to automatically qualify for the World Athletics (Tokyo, Sep 13–21).
The automatic qualification mark was 27:00.00s. Gulveer had narrowly missed the timing at 'The Ten 2025' athletics meet in California where he had recorded his personal best.
Athletes can qualify for the Worlds through the global ranking system too, and the gold in Gumi will significantly improve Gulveer's ranking. He has already qualified for the Worlds in the men's 5,000m event.

I could have run faster but it was quite hot and humid during the race time. It was a challenging race. My coach had devised a strategy keeping the weather conditions in mind. I am happy that I successfully implemented it,' Gulveer told TOI from Gumi.
'The race was slower than expected but my focus was on securing a podium finish rather than targeting a specific time. I was confident about my sprint and I knew I could take the lead in the last lap.'
Prior to his 9th-place finish in the men's 5,000m on his Diamond League debut in Doha this month, Gulveer had been training at the Colorado Springs centre in the US. The significant contrast between the cool, windy conditions there and the heat in both Doha and Gumi influenced his performance.
Due to warm conditions, the local organising committee had installed a water station during the 10,000m track race. Gulveer said he conserved each ounce of energy for the last lap.
Racing alongside Bahrain's Albert Kibichi Rop, who finished with 28:46.82s for bronze, added an extra layer of challenge for Gulveer. Kibichi was leading the Indian before the last lap but the latter overtook his rival midway with a final burst. Japan's Mebuki Suzuki beat Rop for silver.
Sawan Barwal, the other Indian, finished fourth with a time of 28:50.53s. The men's 5,000m is scheduled for the last day (May 31) and all runners, including Gulveer, will get enough time to recover.
Race Walker Sebastian Gets Bronze
India's initial success of the day came through race walker Servin Sebastian, who earned a bronze medal in the men's 20km race walk in the morning session.
The 26-year-old Army athlete clocked 1:21:13.90, a personal best on his debut at the continental level.
'It was a good race. I am happy to be among the medal winners in my first race at the continental,' he said.
Sebastian has been consistent in his performance since the beginning of the 2025 season.
In February, he won 20km race walk gold at the Uttarakhand National Games with a time of 1:21:23. His second gold came at the Indian Open race walking competition in April in Chandigarh.
Amit, the second Indian race walker, finished fourth.
Annu Rani Finishes Fourth, Tejaswin on Top in Decathlon
Ace javelin thrower Annu Rani finished fourth with a throw of 58.30m. She had a series of 56.92m, no mark, 58.30m, 58.11m, 57.80m and no mark.
China's Su Lingdan won the gold with a throw of 63.29m, with Japan's Sae Takemoto (58.94m) securing silver.
National record holder decathlete Tejaswin Shankar was on top in the nine-man field after the completion of five events out of 10 on Tuesday.

Meet Vanshika, Kuldeep Yadav's childhood friend-turned-fiancée

Team India's star spinner Kuldeep Yadav recently got engaged to his childhood friend Vanshika in a private ceremony in Lucknow, and fans are now eager to know more about the woman who has been by his side through the years. The engagement, held on Wednesday, was an intimate affair attended by close family and friends. Among those present were fellow Uttar Pradesh cricketers, including India and Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh, who was accompanied by his fiancée and Member of Parliament, Priya Saroj. Born and brought up in Shyam Nagar, a locality in Lucknow, Vanshika is a non-celebrity who works with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). Despite staying away from the limelight, her steady presence in Kuldeep's life has been deeply significant. The couple's relationship dates back to their childhood days in Kanpur, where they first met. Their bond, rooted in years of friendship, gradually evolved into a romantic relationship and eventually led to their recent engagement. The ceremony itself reflected the couple's private nature. Kuldeep looked dapper in a cream-coloured embroidered sherwani, while Vanshika stunned in a bright orange lehenga. The two exchanged rings in the presence of close loved ones, marking a special personal milestone for the cricketer. Although there has been no official announcement from the couple on social media, pictures from the function have gone viral, with fans flooding the internet with congratulatory messages. While the wedding was initially planned for June 29, it has reportedly been postponed due to Kuldeep's commitments with the Indian team's upcoming tour of England. A new date has not been confirmed yet, but the wedding is expected to take place later this year. On the professional front, the 30-year-old left-arm wrist-spinner recently featured for the Delhi Capitals in the 2025 Indian Premier League. He impressed with the ball, taking 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 7.07. His performance played a key part in helping DC finish fifth in the points table, with seven wins. Kuldeep continues to be a vital part of India's bowling line-up across all formats. He was instrumental in India's triumphs at both the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Since his international debut in 2017, he has built a solid record, claiming 181 wickets in 113 ODIs, 69 wickets in 40 T20Is, and 56 wickets in 13 Test matches

"Not Good Captain, Not Right For IPL Team": Virat Kohli's Critics Shut Down By Rajeev Shukla

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended 18 years of misery as the Rajat Patidar -led side defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Virat Kohli, the only constant in the franchise over the last 18 years, finally tasted success in the T20 league, while also playing an important role in the team's triumph. With the win, Kohli didn't just extend his legacy in Indian cricket but also sent a message to all those who questioned his leadership, adaptability to the T20 format. Rajeev Shukla, the man touted to become the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, shut down critics in style as Virat finally made the 'Ee sala cup namde' prophecy true. "See, to me, it feels like - amongst those who've played the IPL over the last 18 years - Virat has been the constant. And he tried many times to make Bangalore champions, to make RCB champions, but it never happened. People often criticised him, said things like 'he's not a good captain,' 'he's not right for an IPL team' - this and that," Shukla said in a chat with India Today. Though RCB haven't been as successful as Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in IPL history, the franchise enjoys unmatched fan following. For Shukla, the popularity that the Bengaluru side has is all because of Virat Kohli. "But whatever the case may be, it's because of Virat that RCB has such a big fan base and popularity. People around the world follow this team because of him. No matter where a match is played, if Virat's team is playing, it will be known by his name," Shukla added. Virat was RCB's top-scoring batter this season, finishing the IPL 2025 campaign with 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75. He struck at a strike rate of 144.71, with his highest score being 73 not out. Listen to the latest songs, only on
