Tech firms embrace agentic AI, drives faster code transformation
Tech companies are evaluating the benefits of deploying AI agents to augment developer productivity while broadening their GenAI implementation. These intelligent systems are being utilised across diverse functions, spanning from programming to systems transfer. Anupam Mishra, director of Developer Programs, AWS India and South Asia, said that these agents are successfully executing moderate-complexity coding assignments. Their functionalities extend to test case creation, documentation generation, security flaw detection, and solution development. At the recent AWS Summit Bengaluru 2025, Mishra informed TOI that his AWS teams achieved four times faster migration from .NET (pronounced dot net ) to Linux while working with clients. The cloud services company's product demonstrated an 83% quicker conversion of older Java scripts to newer versions for their client Persistent Systems. "We have a case study where several teams converted their Java code from older versions to newer versions. Amazon developers saved 4,500 years of manual work and $260 million annually from performance improvements by using our Amazon Q Developer Agent for code transformation to migrate over 30,000 applications from Java 8 or 11 to Java 17," he said. Mishra said the average time to upgrade an application to Java 17 plummeted from typically 50 developer days to just a few hours. "In under six months, Amazon upgraded more than 50% of its production Java systems to modernised Java versions at a fraction of the usual time and effort. Amazon developers shipped 79% of the auto-generated code reviews without any additional changes. As we use AI extensively, mundane tasks like writing test scripts will be taken away from the coder," Mishra said. Arun Parameswaran, EVP & MD of sales at Salesforce South Asia, said that agents generate 30% of code, expected to reach 50% by year-end. Their AI product for creating autonomous AI agents achieved 93% accuracy for a European airline client. For Salesforce's helpline, agents handle 84% of queries, with escalations reduced by half. Their CodeGenie model has processed over 7 million code lines, addressed 500,000 developer queries, and saved 30,000 monthly hours, enhancing developer efficiency and reducing costs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Cognizant earlier reported that agents write 20% of code, with plans to increase this proportion whilst passing AI-derived cost benefits to customers. US-based Constellation Research's principal analyst Ray Wang indicates that with agentic AI , code can be written using 20% of developers, achieving 50% higher productivity, while testing requires 40% fewer personnel. "We are seeing fully automated software development life cycles. In a world of exponential efficiency, IT services startups are delivering $1 million revenue per employee today and expect $5 million in 3 years," Wang said. IBM, in its proxy filing, said it achieved over $3.5 billion in annual productivity run-rate savings since 2022. Speaking at the IBM Think 2025 event in the US last week, its CEO Arvind Krishna said that in the long run, 'productivity is everything' and there is an 'insane need to go fast'. That is where agents come into play. According to Krishna, IBM's AI products Spyre and Telum, when used to detect fraud in financial transactions, could save $190 billion. Nasscom's recent GenAI report highlighted India's tech industry leading in agentic AI readiness, from vertical solutions in legal or pharmacovigilance processes to multiple platform-based use cases. Musk reignites conspiracy theory; Apple gives Tata iPhone repair business; OpenAI appeals data preservation order
Musk reignites conspiracy theory With one tweet linking U.S. President Donald Trump with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, Elon Musk reignites a long-running conspiracy theory of the U.S. President's far right supporters. The tech billionaire — who exited his role as a top White House advisor just last week — alleged on Thursday that the Republican leader is featured in secret government files on rich and powerful former Epstein associates. The Trump administration has acknowledged it is reviewing tens of thousands of documents, videos, and investigative material that his 'MAGA' movement says will unmask public figures complicit in Epstein's crimes. 'Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files,' Musk posted on X, as a growing feud with the president boiled over into a vicious public spat. Supporters on the conspiratorial end of Mr. Trump's base allege that Epstein's associates had their roles in his crimes covered up by government officials and others. Apple gives Tata iPhone repair business Apple has brought in Tata Group to handle repairs for iPhones and MacBook devices in Indian market, signalling the Indian conglomerate's deepening role in the U.S. tech giant's supply chain, two people familiar with the matter said. As Apple looks beyond China for manufacturing, Tata has fast emerged as its key supplier and already assembles iPhones for local and foreign markets at three facilities in south India, with one of them also making some iPhone components. Tata is taking over the mandate from an Indian unit of Taiwan's Wistron, ICT Service Management Solutions, and will carry out such after-sales repairs from its Karnataka iPhone assembly campus, sources said. The market for repairs is only going to boom in India, the world's second-biggest smartphone market, as iPhone sales skyrocket. Counterpoint estimates around 11 million iPhones were sold in India last year, giving Apple a 7% market share, compared to just 1% in 2020. OpenAI appeals data preservation order OpenAI is appealing an order in a copyright case brought by the New York Times that requires it to preserve ChatGPT output data indefinitely, arguing that the order conflicts with privacy commitments it has made with users. Last month, a court said OpenAI had to preserve and segregate all output log data after the Times asked for the data to be preserved. 'We will fight any demand that compromises our users' privacy; this is a core principle,' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a post on X on Thursday. U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein was asked to vacate the May data preservation order on June 3, a court filing showed. The New York Times did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours. The newspaper sued OpenAI and Microsoft in 2023, accusing them of using millions of its articles without permission to train the large language model.

UK secures action from Amazon to tackle fake reviews
HighlightsAmazon has pledged to combat fake reviews and will impose sanctions on British businesses that artificially inflate their ratings through fraudulent posts, as stated by the United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority. The Competition and Markets Authority's investigation revealed issues related to 'catalogue abuse', where sellers mislead consumers by using reviews from unrelated, well-performing products to enhance their own ratings. Under its enhanced powers, the Competition and Markets Authority can independently determine violations of consumer law and take enforcement actions, including imposing fines and mandating improvements in business practices. Amazon has committed to do more to tackle fake reviews, including sanctioning British businesses that boost their ratings through bogus posts, the country's competition watchdog said on Friday. Following a four-year probe, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said Amazon's undertakings also addressed its concerns about ' catalogue abuse ' where sellers use the reviews of well-performing unrelated products to boost ratings and mislead customers. Companies that break the rules could be banned from selling on the ecommerce giant's platform altogether, while users who post fake reviews could be banned from posting reviews. Amazon also committed to robust processes to quickly detect and remove fake reviews and catalogue abuse, the CMA said. The regulator, which estimates that 90% of consumers use online reviews to inform purchases, began investigating Amazon and Google in 2021 over possible breaches of consumer protection law . It secured similar commitments from Google in January. "These new commitments matter and help set the standard," CMA boss Sarah Cardell said in a statement. The watchdog is conducting an initial sweep of review platforms following the release of new reviews guidance in April, seeking to identify platforms that may need to do more to comply with consumer law. Under its newly-granted powers, the CMA can independently decide whether consumer law has been infringed and take action in case of breaches, including issuing fines and ordering businesses to improve their practices.
