Why Morgan Wallen's abrupt ‘SNL' exit is drawing strong reactions from fans
Morgan Wallen's second stint as musical guest on 'Saturday Night Live' is stirring some controversy among viewers.
On Saturday, Oscar winner Mikey Madison hosted the late-night sketch comedy show for the first time alongside Wallen as musical guest.
During the episode, the country music star performed two songs from his upcoming project 'I'm The Problem,' including the album's title track and a song called 'Just In Case.'
At the end of the show, Madison and Wallen stood center stage for their goodnights, which typically air while the post-credits roll. Instead of mingling with the host and show's cast, which has become part of 'SNL' tradition, Wallen was seen leaving the stage almost immediately, per a clip shared on X by the official 'SNL' account.
It's unclear why Wallen left the stage before the rest of the crew. TODAY.com reached out for comment but did not hear back.
The singer hasn't commented on the moment but did share an Instagram story in the early hours of Sunday, after the conclusion of the episode. The singer posted a photo, which appeared to be taken from the window of a plane, capturing a snap of another plane on the tarmac.
'Get me to God's country,' the post read.
TODAY.com reached out for comment about Wallen's post, but has not heard back.
Wallen has a history of controversy dating back to 2016, including one with 'SNL.'
In October 2020, Wallen was pulled as the show's musical guest after he was caught on video allegedly breaking COVID-19 protocols while he partied without a mask. He was rebooked on the show in December 2020 and even poked fun at his cancelation in a sketch.
Over the years, he has been subject to additional criticism, including having his recording contract temporarily suspended in February 2021 after he was caught on camera using a racial slur. However, the following year, he reappeared at award shows and won album of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May 2022.
In December 2024, Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment following his arrest after he threw a chair off a bar's rooftop. He was sentenced to seven days incarceration at a DUI education center and two years' probation.
How did 'SNL' viewers react to Morgan Wallen walking off stage
Across social media, fans and 'SNL' viewers shared their unfiltered reaction to the moment.
'Morgan Wallen is the first musical guest or host on SNL that I can recall who just walked off stage during 'goodnights' before the credits even started to roll,' one tweet on the social media site X read.
Another post said, 'Morgan Wallen barely acknowledges Mikey Madison and then immediately storms off stage like a baby during the SNL goodbyes. Woof.'
'Everyone talking about Morgan Wallen storming off stage of SNL but we should be asking why did @nbcsnl invite him back ?' one post pointed out.
'Morgan Wallen said I didn't want to be here either,' another post read. 'That's exactly what the show gets for having him in the first place. #SNL'

For the actual ceremony, Dani dazzled in a £10,000 designer gown by Suzanne Neville, before changing into a stunning lace minidress for the raucous reception. Speaking on her joint podcast with Danny, Dani revealed she was keeping her first wedding dress a surprise from her dad until the big day to honour a special tradition. White rose petals lined the aisle, with floral sculptures and candles creating a stunning backdrop which the bride and groom shared a kiss in front of. The fun was kicked off by father of the bride Danny, who led a wedding breakfast chant of the rude West Ham anthem, 'Bowen's on fire and he's sh***ing Dani Dyer,' to the 1997 hit Freed from Desire, changing the lyrics to say 'married'. While Dani's sister Sunnie was one of six bridesmaids, who all wowed in matching one shoulder pink dresses. The 18-year-old also had a role during the ceremony as she read a poem from Sex and The City's wedding scene, which went: 'His hello was the end of her endings. Her laugh was their first step down the aisle. His hand would be hers to hold forever. 'His forever was as simple as her smile. He said she was what was missing. She said instantly she knew. She was a question to be answered. And his answer was 'I do'.' After Dani and Jarrod exchanged their vows, the couple were quick to indulge in their huge wedding cake, with the happy couple seen lifting a huge slice in a fun video. The reception also boasted a live band who serenaded Dani as she shared a sweet father-daughter dance with Dani. Speaking to Heat magazine earlier this week, Dani said: 'I have finally done my table plans now. Until you are in there writing names out, making sure you have tables of 10, it's the most stressful experience ever - that's the only thing I've not enjoyed.' Dani also revealed she will take on a double-barrel surname after the wedding, becoming Dyer-Bowen. She said: 'I am going to keep the Dyer - I am going to do Dani Dyer-Bowen just because of my work. I feel like if I am Dani Bowen, it takes that thing away from me. We are double-barrelling it.'

Ex-England international wants more female role models in sport
Telford, from County Durham, achieved 27 caps in an England shirt and appeared in three FA Cup finals with Leeds United, Chelsea and Notts County. She lacked visible representation during her youth but since taking on her post-playing role working at Chelsea Women as a Commercial Manager, she can see new opportunities for young girls. 'I basically didn't have any female role models until I was a lot older,' she said. 'If I was asked that question as a youngster, I would have said David Beckham or David Ginola. 'I was in a school last week, and we were doing the trophy tour for the FA Cup. I sat down next to a group of girls, and I said, 'Oh, who are your role models?' and they said Sam Kerr, Millie Bright, Lauren James and that is just so normal for them. 'To see them writing their names down, wishing them good luck, it's just so inspiring for them to be like, I see myself in her, or I want to be like her one day.' A study by Sure in 2024 found that 58% of girls say that having a female role model strengthens their passion for football. Telford, who was part of a panel discussing the issue at Stamford Bridge this week, has been able to become the role model for others that she never had, spending eight years at WSL heavyweights Chelsea during her career. 'It's mad. I sometimes forget it, until someone's like, 'Can you sign my T-shirt? Can you sign my boot?','' she said. 'It's almost like a responsibility as well in the best kind of way. I didn't want to be a footballer for any other reason, I just loved it. I genuinely do. If you ask most of the girls who play the game, it's all for the love of it. 'The responsibility that comes with that is to always turn up as who you are, because there's always going to be a young girl, a group of girls that will be like, 'Oh, I sound like her, I look like her, I play the position she does.' 'Not all of us have a smooth journey. Just because when you get to the top, it looks like it's all great, and Instagram and TikTok can make it look all fun, actually it's a difficult role. 'There's a lot of rejection, sometimes confidence is low, you're not selected. There's a lot of things that you have to deal with but that also helps you prepare for life outside.' For Telford, that authenticity is key in allowing girls to connect with players and create role models who speak to wider aspects of life beyond elite football. 'Role models should allow girls to aspire to be Lionesses and want to be the best of the best, but also empower them to feel confident, to feel like they can do it, and that gives them life skills in the longer term as well,' she added. Visibility plays a vital role in inspiring young girls in sports, but it alone isn't enough. Increased visibility needs to be paired with real world grassroots investment – like Sure's Breaking Limits Programme – find out more here
