PM Modi accorded warm welcome on arrival in Argentina
People of the Indian community too extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister on his arrival. The local Indian expatriates performed Kathak and other traditional dances in PM Modi's honour.
PM Modi wrote on his social media page "Landed in Buenos Aires for a bilateral visit which will focus on augmenting relations with Argentina. I am eager to be meeting President Javier Milei and holding detailed talks with him"
PM Modi is touring Argentina on the invitation of the Argentine President. He will be meeting President Milei later today, during the meeting the two sides will look into possibilities of cooperation between the two nations.
Top of the agenda will be talks on defence, oil and gas, renewable energy, agriculture, mining, trade and investment.
He arrived in Argentina after his Trinidad & Tobago visit, "Thank you Trinidad & Tobago, I will never be able to forget my time here, we have given new momentum to ties between India and Trinidad & Tobago" he wrote on his 'X' account.
He thanked Trinidad & Tobago PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar, her government and the people for the warmth extended towards him during his visit.

UK acknowledges partial success by Afghan Taliban in curbing ISKP terrorists
London/Kabul, July 5 (UNI) The United Kingdom acknowledged that Afghanistan's Taliban-led interim government has made partial gains in curbing the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), though the Islamic terror group continues to pose a serious threat both within the country and beyond its borders. Speaking at a security conference in Islamabad, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Matt Cannell noted that while Taliban efforts have disrupted ISKP operations since 2022, the group has not been dismantled, reports Tolo News. 'What we've seen is a dispersal rather than eradication of ISKP,' he said. 'They have obviously regrouped and are now promoting attacks in neighbouring countries and across the border as well.' ISKP, the regional affiliate of the Islamic State, has remained active despite ongoing crackdowns by the Taliban, which so far has successfully curbed the terrorist group's numbers in the country. The group has been responsible for a series of deadly attacks targeting civilians, minorities, government authorities, infrastructure, and even foreign officials across Afghanistan and the wider region. While the Taliban has claimed that the group has been defeated, Western officials and analysts continue to express concern about its shifting tactics and potential for resurgence. Cannell emphasised the need for sustained regional cooperation to counter the evolving threat. 'We understand how Taliban pressure has continued to affect ISKP,' he said. 'Sharing insights with our partners is essential to continue disrupting future activity.' In a separate meeting, the British chargé d'affaires to Afghanistan told Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Taliban's acting Minister for Refugees and Repatriation, that the United Nations has drafted a plan for Afghanistan focused on strengthening engagement with the interim government and supporting national stability in the country. Congress should be strengthened at grassroots to keep fascist forces away, says TNCC president
The Congress should be strengthened to defeat fascist and communal forces that are working overtime to gobble Tamil Nadu in the 2026 Assembly elections, according to Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai. Addressing a party meeting here on Saturday to accelerate formation of village Congress committees in every hamlet of Tirunelveli district, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said INDIA Bloc had set the target of winning more than 200 Assembly segments in Tamil Nadu in the 2026 Assembly elections, and this could be achieved only if the Congress was strong enough at all levels. Hence, 21,000 village committees were being formed across the State, each with a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and 10 committee members. If the Congress was strengthened before the polls, no one could ignore it and its cadre's dream of getting more Assembly seats and more positions in local bodies would get realised, he said. 'Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are working hard to wipe out the Congress, the party that created a new India from scratches after Independence, is still alive and vibrant enough to rule three States despite the sinister designs of the RSS and its BJP,' he said. Nanguneri MLA and TNCC treasurer Ruby R. Manoharan, who has formed village Congress committees in all villages of his Assembly constituency, said the resounding victory of INDIA Bloc in the 2026 Assembly elections would herald the elimination of Modi-led 'autocratic governance'. Killiyoor MLA Rajesh Kumar said the Congress was still active in Tamil Nadu due to the party cadre even though it lost its power in 1967. 'If we strengthen the party at the village level, we can take on the miserably failed autocratic administration of the Narendra Modi-led government. Moreover, we can fight for the welfare of the villages by getting its due share for creating due infrastructure in rural areas,' he said. Former MLA and Congress restructuring committee president S. Peter Alphonse said the formation of village committee would give the much-needed opportunity to identify the party's strengths and weaknesses and take appropriate remedial measures. Tirunelveli MP C. Robert Bruce urged the TNCC president to get a minimum of two Assembly segments in Tirunelveli district for the Congress in the 2026 Assembly elections.
