Morphy Richards' 'brilliant' new £19 gadget makes toasties in the microwave

Daily Mirror09-07-2025
Kitchen gadgets don't get much better than this handy Microwave Toastie Sandwich Maker, which is currently on sale at Amazon for Amazon Prime Day - and ensures perfect sandwiches every time
We all have a toastie machine hidden somewhere in our kitchen, don't we? While a cheese toastie is the ultimate late-night snack or lunchtime treat, the process of retrieving the maker from the cupboard, waiting for it to heat up and then cleaning it afterwards can be somewhat off-putting and often not worth the bother.
This is why a handy little gadget from Morphy Richards is one of the best budget-friendly kitchen tools we've stumbled upon in quite some time. The Mico Microwave Toastie Sandwich Maker typically retails at £34.99, but shoppers can snag it with a massive discount of almost 50%, now £18.99 and the lowest price this year.

It's incredibly easy to use: simply prepare your favourite toastie as usual, place it into the toastie maker, secure it down and pop it into the microwave for a couple of minutes for crispy, tasty toasties, paninis, bagels and more. Customers who have already purchased this quick and compact tool say it cooks toasties 'perfectly' in less than three minutes, with minimal clean-up needed.
It's also perfect for taking to work when you only have access to a microwave, or for any fresher starting university this September. Instead of having to purchase a new toastie machine or hauling an old one from home, just pack this one instead.
Elsewhere, Lakeland stocks the Crimpit Toastie Maker for £14.99. Meanwhile, over at Ninja, the Foodi Health Grill and Air Fryer is available for £219.99. The Mico Microwave Toastie Sandwich Maker has gained a stellar average rating of 4.5 out of five from more than 2,930 reviews.

One customer said: "Excellent product, perfectly toasted sandwich, crispy on the outside and hot and tasty on the inside, perfect size for one person, well worth the price."
A second reviewer wrote: "I bought this following an advert via TikTok, where I work we aren't allowed toasters only microwaves but sometimes I just want a toastie so I bought this. It's very easy to use. You only need a smidge of butter as the non-stick coating is excellent. Two-and-a-half minutes in microwave and its done. Just a wipe clean with a cloth and its ready to use again. Small and doesn't take up much room."

Meanwhile, another buyer added: "Not used my old traditional toastie machine in ages. No waiting for it heating up so it saves time if you then want to make another. The toastie is as crisp as the traditional machine and its just as melted and cooked inside. Best thing I've bought in a long time."
A further reviewer stated: "Having been in hospital for a few months we were limited on food we could eat. This was a game-changer and allowed us to make lovely toasties and paninis in the microwave. Cooks really quickly and can be used the same as a traditional sandwich maker."
The Mico Microwave Toastie Sandwich Maker has received mixed reviews, with one customer branding it "expensive" and stating: "I was drawn to buy this by the reviews and video but personally found it substandard and not worth the nearly £35 I paid. Disappointed. Just not for me."
In contrast, an 80 year old man left a glowing review: "I am an 80 year old single male and I have just bought one of these simple to use pieces of kit. I've made cheese and tomato, cheese and onion and cheese and ham toasties. They take four minutes in the microwave and come out perfect. Washing the unit afterwards couldn't be easier. Buy one you won't regret it."

Ditch Google's newest phone and get £350 off this Pixel 9 model - 'the camera is insane'

The Google Pixel 9 Pro has been cut by a huge £350 the same days as a brand new device is set to be launched Google is set to unveil its newest smartphone range, the Pixel 10. Launching at its Made By Good event on August 20, the phones will be unveiled at 6pm UK time. Expected to come packed with a host of new feature updates, another boost to its AI functions, and potentially new cameras, but a new deal proves shoppers don't have to go for a flagship model. Amazon has cut a huge £350 off last years Google Pixel 9 Pro device, as the interest around the flagship Pixel 10 soars shoppers can now make a huge saving on last years model. Today's newest launch is a step up from its predecessor siblings; the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro devices. The Pixel 9 Pro is still supported by Google - and will be up to 2031, Thich means users will be able to download the latest software, they also have great cameras, and quality screens. As the price drops to a much cheaper £649 instead of £999. Making it a great option for shoppers who are not fussed about having the latest and greatest device. It's rare to find such a huge discount on the device, and in line with consumer trends often followed by Apple and Samsung too, last year's devices are now hundreds cheaper. There's currently lots of places where Google shoppers can find discounts on the Pixel 9 Pro. The biggest, and one we've flagged first, is Amazon's £350 discount. Next up is Sky, and its option for pay-as-you-go shoppers - priced at £23 a month and with a £12 upfront fee. Over at Argos, and the price is also £649. There's also a budget option with the Pixel 9a device, which is currently £399, this doesn't have all the qualities as the usual Pixel range and has been designed as a 'watered down version' to match the cheaper cost. Back to the Pixel 9 Pro and one of it's standout features is the camera. It has a triple rear system, allowing users to get focused close ups, sharp selfies, and rich colours. This happens to be a feature which won over our team member, Tom Capon, as he bought the device for himself. Having used it for a few weeks to date, Tom says the camera 'is insane', as he explained: "The camera is all you need to worry about here. The camera is, in fact, insane - so much so that I need to reconsider my own skincare routine. "Everything from filming my gym routine to taking a photo of my cat is enhanced to such a degree that it's now my favourite function on the phone. What's more, the self-facing camera is still leagues ahead of the 7 or any other phone I've used. "It's really night and day - if you take photos on your phone, for me, the Pixel 9 Pro is the absolute top of its game." Tom was previously an avid iPhone user but swapped to Android devices six years ago and swapped to the Pixel when 'he heard good things' about the durability. He continued: "I opted for the Pixel 9 Pro as I needed a sharper camera and something to keep up with the most recent software updates. However, I ended up staying for all the bells and whistles. "Smartphones are hard to upgrade as there's only so much convenience you can get in one machine. But this bad boy came packed with adaptive battery (which switches over to power saving mode when I stream YouTube videos for hours at a time) and adjustable bedtime settings to make sure I'm not exploding blue light into my retinas just before bedtime." One feature which he hasn't been 'blown away by' however, is the battery, as he says it's not been revolutionary like other models, as he streams a lot of audiobooks and podcasts which hits the length. However, if these are ditched, he says the phone does "easily last all day and night without a charge."

Hertz partners with Amazon Autos to sell used vehicles online

Aug 20 (Reuters) - Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ.O), opens new tab said on Wednesday its car sales unit was partnering with (AMZN.O), opens new tab automotive retail platform, Amazon Autos, to sell pre-owned vehicles, sending the car rental company's shares up 7% in early trading. Shares of used-car retailers fell, with Avis Budget Group (CAR.O), opens new tab down 6%, Carvana (CVNA.N), opens new tab losing 4.2% and CarMax (KMX.N), opens new tab shedding 1.4%. The collaboration builds on Amazon Autos' recent expansion into used-vehicle sales, Hertz said. Amazon launched Amazon Autos last year to expand the online retail platform's services to include used and certified pre-owned vehicles, with participating dealers in more than 130 U.S. cities. Hertz and Amazon will start offering their service within 75 miles of Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle, with plans to expand to Hertz Car Sales' 45 locations across the United States. Estero, Florida-based Hertz Global operates its car rental business through its Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly vehicle-rental brands across 160 countries, and also operates a car-sharing business in Europe. Its Hertz Car Sales brand offers used cars for sale online and at locations across the U.S. Hertz has been pressured by bumpy rental demand, forcing it to shed much of its electric-vehicle fleet in favor of gas-powered cars over the past few years. It has also drawn scrutiny over its AI-powered sensors - used to check returned vehicles for damage - which some customers say have frequently misfired. Hedge-fund billionaire Bill Ackman boosted his stake in Hertz earlier this year to nearly 20% through his investment management company Pershing Square, expressing confidence in the management's efforts to reduce costs to improve profit margins over the next several years despite ongoing tariff pressures.
