Jersey cruise to eight-wicket win over Guernsey

Yahoo2 days ago
Jersey cruised to an eight-wicket win over Guernsey in the 50-over inter-insular at the KGV.
The win was the fifth Jersey's men have got over Guernsey in all formats this season as they warm up for the ICC Challenge League A tournament they will host later this month.
Batting first, Guernsey restricted the hosts to 150 all out off 43 overs, as George Richardson returned impressive figures of 5-38 off his 10 overs.
In reply Jersey needed just 25.2 overs to reach 152 as Harrison Carlyon hit 85.
Jersey showed their intentions from the opening delivery when Lucas Barker was caught by Charlie Brennan at square leg off Julius Sumerauer for a first-ball duck.
Barker's fellow opener Ben Fitchet was bowled for nought by Richardson in the next over to leave Guernsey on 4-2.
Matt Stokes and Martin Dale Bradley put on 31 for the next wicket before Stokes was bowled by Richardson for 13 to leave Guernsey on 33-3 off 5.5 overs.
Richardson dismissed Guernsey skipper Ollie Nightingale for a single two overs later before Bradley fell victim to Sumerauer for 28 to leave the Sarnians on 49-5 off 13 overs.
Tom Nightingale and Ben Ferbrache steadied the Guernsey innings with a 43-run sixth-wicket stand before Richardson bowled Nightingale for 23.
Ferbrache went on to make 29 off 64 balls before Harrison Carlyon trapped him lbw to leave Guernsey on 118-5 with 16 overs to go.
Ninth man in Luke Bichard showed some resistance with a 39-ball 29 that included the only six of the innings, but Guernsey were bowled out for 150 off 43 overs.
Jersey - who had beaten Guernsey in their T20 inter-insulars and in the T20 World Cup qualifiers - were in no mood to hang around as they put Guernsey's bowlers to the sword.
Opener Nick Greenwood went for 20 after Adam Martel trapped him lbw, but Carlyon and Glamorgan star Asa Tribe came together to put on 108 for the second wicket in 19 overs.
Carlyon hit 12 fours and two sixes in his 80-ball knock before he was caught by Tom Nightingale off Charlie Forshaw's bowling.
Tribe went on to score an unbeaten 41 off 52 balls as Jersey kept their unbeaten run over Guernsey going for another year - Guernsey have not beaten Jersey over 50 overs since 2015.

London Spirit Women beat Manchester Originals to extend perfect start in Hundred

Defending champions London Spirit extended their 100 per cent record to three matches in the Hundred women's competition after beating Manchester Originals with two balls to spare. Grace Harris finished 50 not out off 32 balls but it was number nine Sarah Glenn who held her nerve, hitting 10 off four balls, with her second boundary bringing up the winning runs as the visitors chased down the 123 needed for victory. Kira Chathli had got the innings off to a good start with 34 but Spirit looked like they may be in difficulty after slipping to 97 for five off 84. However, Harris held things together to set up a tense finish as Kathryn Bryce took wickets in successive balls late on. Batting first, Originals had slipped to 77 for five off 65 despite Beth Mooney's 26 off 20 at the top of the order. They eventually posted 122 for six thanks to a sixth-wicket stand of 45 runs between Deandra Dottin (36) and Alice Monaghan (18no) but it was not enough to prevent Spirit from going top of the table.

Spanish league moves closer to holding a regular-season game in US between Villarreal and Barcelona

MADRID (AP) — The Spanish league is closer to playing a regular-season game in the United States. The Spanish soccer federation on Monday approved a request for the match between Villarreal and Barcelona to be played in Miami on Dec. 20. The federation will now seek approval from soccer governing bodies UEFA and FIFA. The 17th-round match in La Liga would be played at the Hard Rock Stadium. The league first tried to stage a match in the U.S. in 2018, but the idea was dismissed after criticism from some players, fans and clubs. Its subsequent attempts to play there also failed. Staging a match abroad has been part of the league's goal of promoting soccer and its brand in other countries. The league is in a long-term partnership with sports and entertainment group Relevent Sports, which is part of Stephen Ross' portfolio of companies including Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Dolphins, the Formula One's Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open tennis tournament. ___ AP soccer:
