
Crackdown across Manipur: Militants nabbed, Illegal arms recovered
In Kakching district, police arrested an individual found in possession of 101 litres of illicitly distilled liquor. The contraband was handed over to excise officials for further legal proceedings.
In Imphal West, security forces apprehended a suspected member of a banned militant outfit near his residence. Items recovered from the suspect included a mobile phone, multiple SIM cards, and an identity document. Preliminary investigations suggest his involvement in extortion activities targeting civilians.
At a checkpoint in Ngaikhong Khunou, Bishnupur district, two men believed to be associated with a proscribed group were arrested during routine frisking and vehicle checks. Police said the duo was allegedly involved in extorting money from contractors, businesspersons, and residents in the Imphal and Bishnupur areas. A vehicle and mobile phones were seized from them.
In Imphal East, another suspect linked to an outlawed organization was detained. A wallet containing an identity card was recovered from the individual, who is also believed to have been involved in unlawful activities.
Separately, Churachandpur district saw multiple arms recovery operations. In one incident, security personnel recovered three country-made single-barrel rifles and a country-made pistol from a village. A follow-up operation in a nearby area led to the seizure of additional arms and ammunition, including three more single-barrel rifles, live cartridges, a "Pompi" firearm, Pompi bullets, a live round, spent shells, and tear gas munitions.
Authorities said further investigations are underway in all cases, and operations will continue as part of efforts to maintain law and order in the state.

Imphal: In a significant crackdown on illegal arms in Manipur, security forces and police conducted a series of successful operations on Wednesday across Churachandpur and Thoubal districts, resulting in the seizure of a huge cache of weapons and ammunition. In Churachandpur, a search operation at Dampi Ridge near the general area of Songphel under Churachandpur police station yielded a substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, and tactical gear. The recovered items included 14 single-barrel rifles, 1 pistol with magazine, 1 Pompi (improvised firearm), 9 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 8 Pompi ammunition, 23 cartridges of 12 bore, 10 live rounds of .303 calibre, 1 live 9mm round, 3 blank .303 rounds, 3 helmets and 2 Boafeng radio communication sets. In a separate operation in Buallian village, police recovered 3 country-made single-barrel rifles and 1 country-made pistol. Additionally, security personnel seized 3 single-barrel rifles, 4 cartridges of 12 bore, 1 Pompi firearm, 4 Pompi bullets, 1 live 7.62mm round, 2 empty 5.56mm cases, and 4 tear smoke munitions in Tollen village and nearby areas. In Thoubal, an operation in the Langathel Hangoipat area, under Khongjom police station, resulted in the recovery of 4 Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) and 8 SLR magazines by Manipur Police. Authorities said investigations are underway to ascertain the origins of these weapons and the groups involved in their proliferation. He was allegedly involved in extorting money from the general public. A mobile phone with two SIM cards and an Aadhaar card were also seized from his possession. At the Ngaikhong Khunou check post, under Bishnupur police station, security forces detained two individuals allegedly linked to the RPF/PLA: Konjengbam Jiten Singh (38), an active cadre, and Khongbantabam Priyobarta Meitei (37), alias Tomba alias Abung. Both hailed from Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, Imphal West, and were reportedly involved in extorting funds from contractors and business owners. A silver Maruti 800 and two mobile phones were seized during the operation. In another operation, an active cadre of KCP (PWG), Md Azam (23) of Khurai Thangjam Khunou Chingya Leikai, was arrested from Kairang Chingya Leikai in Imphal East district under Heingang police station. Earlier, on Tuesday, security forces in Thoubal arrested Khundongbam Ashothama Singh (35), alias Apom, another active KCP (PWG) member. He was apprehended from Heirok Narengtatpi Loukon and was allegedly involved in extortion, threatening civilians and cadre recruitment. One mobile phone, 1 SIM card and 1 Honda Activa (without registration number) were seized from his possession. All arrested individuals are currently in police custody.

203 firearms, including rifles, explosives seized in major crackdown in Manipur
In a major crackdown on illegal arms circulation, joint security forces recovered a massive cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives during coordinated overnight operations in Manipur's hill intelligence-led operations were conducted between midnight of July 3 and the morning of July 4 across Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Churachandpur to a statement issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Manipur, the operations were carried out jointly by Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, the Indian Army, and other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The raids followed specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of warlike materials in interior forested Security forces recovered 203 firearms of various calibres and a significant quantity of ammunition and explosives. Among the weapons seized were 21 INSAS rifles, 11 AK-series rifles, 26 self-loading rifles (SLRs), 2 sniper rifles, 3 carbines, 17 .303 rifles, 2 mortars, 3 M79 grenade launchers, and 31 single-bore guns.
