Red Sox-Tigers Trade Idea Centered Around $123M All-Star Should Terrify Yankees

The Boston Red Sox are in fourth place in the American League East and could end up being sellers by the time the July 31 trade deadline approaches. They reportedly have received some trade interest for All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran.
Duran was an All-Star last year, but may be the odd man out in Boston. The team has Ceddanne Rafaela signed to a long-term extension and Wilyer Abreu under team control until 2030. Sooner or later, they are going to have to make a move to get Roman Anthony in the big leagues. Duran has the most trade value and is older than his fellow outfielders.
If Duran is available, many teams, not just contenders, could be picking up the phones to try and get him. However, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed this trade that would send him to the Detroit Tigers.
Red Sox receive: RHP Jackson Jobe and SS Bryce Rainer (Tigers No. 3 prospect)
Tigers receive: OF Jarren Duran
"They ought to be in World Series or bust mode after a 40-22 start to the year, and adding Duran would further super-charge an offense that has been a pleasant surprise," wrote Rymer. "It needs Duran's speed, as the Tigers' 21 stolen bases are the fewest in MLB. Because the Tigers are set with Riley Greene in left field, Duran could take over in center and put a stop to a revolving door that has seen seven players start at the position. This would free Javier Báez up to be a proper super-utility man."

CLEVELAND, OHIO - APRIL 27: First base coach José David Flores #58 of the Boston Red Sox holds back Jarren Duran #16 as Duran yells at a fan during the seventh inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on April 27, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio. MoreThe Tigers went on an improbable run to the postseason last year, going 39-26 in the second half and reaching Game 5 of the American League Division Series. They have picked up right where they left off and have the best record in baseball.
They are ahead of the New York Yankees in the American League standings, but adding Duran could really threaten the Yankees' reign as American League champions.
Duran is hitting .273/.318/424 with four home runs and a league-leading six triples. He would add some serious speed to their team on the basepaths and deepen their lineup. If the Yankees watched the Tigers trade for Duran, it could put them in a tough spot for years to come.
Duran is under club control through 2028 and is projected to earn a six-year, $123 million deal on the open market. The Red Sox are unlikely to pay him after paying Rafaela and with Anthony ready to become a pillar of the team.

Mavericks Trade Proposal Sees Team Move on From Anthony Davis

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After a very long year, the Dallas Mavericks are entering the NBA offseason with a ton of momentum. Despite not making the playoffs, the Mavericks did win the 2025 NBA Draft lottery. More NBA news: Thunder Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Speaks Out Following NBA Finals Game 1 Collapse Dallas will now have a chance to draft Duke star Cooper Flagg, giving them an expected generational talent for years to come. But with the likelihood of them drafting Flagg, the Mavericks now have a logjam in the frontcourt. But one new trade proposal would help the Mavericks break up the frontcourt by moving on from star big man Anthony Davis. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report put together trades for all teams and had Dallas land a strong package for the All-Star. Here is what the deal looks like: Hornets receive: Anthony Davis Mavericks receive: Miles Bridges, Jusuf Nurkić, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2031 first-round pick MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - APRIL 18: Anthony Davis #3 of the Dallas Mavericks reacts against the Memphis Grizzlies during the first half of the Play-In Tournament at FedExForum on April 18, 2025 in Memphis, Tennessee. MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - APRIL 18: Anthony Davis #3 of the Dallas Mavericks reacts against the Memphis Grizzlies during the first half of the Play-In Tournament at FedExForum on April 18, 2025 in Memphis, Tennessee. Photo byTrading away Davis right after the team landed him for star guard Luka Doncic would certainly be an interesting decision. But the team didn't get enough value from the Doncic deal, and this could be a way to help rectify that. This trade would likely be about getting off the large contract of Davis, mostly due to his long injury history. Dallas could net some extra draft capital as well, giving them some ammo for a larger move down the line. Bridges could slot into the rotation as a solid wing player, offering athleticism and shooting. His contract is also team-friendly, with Bridges only making a little more than $20 million in each of the next two seasons. More NBA news: Shaquille O'Neal Shares Harsh Criticism for Thunder After NBA Finals Loss Nurkić could help replace Davis in the frontcourt, while giving the Mavericks a decent expiring contract. Dallas could look to move Nurkić at the trade deadline for more future assets. All in all, a deal like this could help Dallas in the future. But if the team wants to contend for a title next season, keeping Davis around helps in that regard. Davis is one of the better big men in the entire NBA, and the Mavericks targeted him for Doncic for a reason. The Mavericks aren't likely to move Davis anytime soon, unless a deal that the team can't turn down falls into their lap. MLB Insider Expects Cubs Might Land One or Two Starters in Coming Weeks

MLB Insider Expects Cubs Might Land One or Two Starters in Coming Weeks originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Rumors about Jed Hoyer's plans for the Chicago Cubs' rotation have been swirling in non-stop fashion, as for who and when, Hoyer hasn't given much indication except that he is scouring the market for starting pitching. However, Chicago MLB insider Bruce Levine thinks he knows when and, more importantly, how many. Advertisement In an appearance on 670 The Score, Levine offered his thoughts and insider knowledge. When talking about the Cubs' starting rotation situation, he had this to say: 'I will say that the Cubs are certainly out there trying to fortify their pitching right now. And over the next two to three weeks, I think they'll put a strong effort into trying to acquire a starting pitcher or two.' Jed Hoyer President of the Chicago Cubs prepares to throw balls to fans before a game against the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Banks-Imagn Images The timeline itself is a bit of a bombshell. With a first-place record, there really isn't any need to rush a trade, but, as the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. However, the real bombshell here is the quantity. Depending on who they target, the Cubs might have a superb rotation in the next three weeks. As for Levine's reasoning behind his assumptions, he gave this argument: Advertisement 'Yeah, why would you wait for the trade deadline? You have dead teams out there. You have the Marlins, you have the Rockies, you have teams like Arizona that might be going the other way very soon in one of the more difficult divisions in baseball. So, there are teams that are going to want to improve and do it before the deadline if you mention the right players coming back. And the Cubs have good minor league players. That's where they're gonna go. They're not going to wait until the deadline to make a trade. They're going to be proactive and move towards these teams that are not in contention.' The hot stove is always burning as the trade deadline nears, but thanks to Levine, it just got a lot hotter. If Levine is right, we can expect to see a new ball game in Wrigleyville very soon. Trade Proposal Would Send Sandy Alcantara to Cubs for Two Prospects

Trade Proposal Would Send Sandy Alcantara to Cubs for Two Prospects originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the injuries to his rotation at the top of his mind, Chicago Cubs president Jed Hoyer has narrowed his focus to trading for starters. There are many options on the market, but in the ever-grinding rumor mill, Marlins' former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara stands out from the crowd. Truth be told, Alcantara rumors have been swirling endlessly since the offseason. Advertisement The 2022 Cy Young award winner is pitching to a shocking 7.89 ERA this season, giving up an MLB-worst 50 earned runs this season. Normally, clubs would look the other way from trade candidates with these numbers, but when you're talking about a guy who threw to a 2.28 ERA in the workhorse load of 228.2 innings just a few years ago, it makes you wonder what a change of scenery can do. For now, any club willing to take the risk for a potential ace will need to view Alcantara as both a change of scenery and a buy-low trade candidate. But what is the wager for such a gamble? In a trade pitch from ClutchPoints, MLB analyst Bailey Bassett proposes sending Alcantara to the Cubs for Jefferson Rojas (Cubs' no. 5 prospect) and Jonathon Long (Cubs' no. 12 prospect). 'Alcantara has been horrible this season, but that could bode well for the Cubs,' Bassett wrote. 'Now is the perfect time to buy low on the pitcher who still has the potential to return to form as one of the best hurlers in baseball. Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara (22) pitches against the Colorado Rockies during the sixth inning at loanDepot Navarro-Imagn Images 'While it isn't a guarantee that Alcantara will return to form, he'd be a worthwhile gamble for the Cubs because Imanaga, Matthew Boyd, and Jameson Taillon are all pitching well, so Alcantara would be more of a luxury.' Advertisement Rojas, who is the no. 75 prospect on MLB pipeline, would be the headliner heading to Miami. A package like this would be more than fair for a pitcher who is coming off Tommy John surgery, is pitching poorly this season, and had also pitched poorly before being injured. However, as the selling team tries to get the most for their Cy Young winner, the Marlins will do their best to pretend that nothing happened after 2022. So, even though it's a fair price, the Marlins will probably hold out for better, even if it means betting that Alcantara will recover at least some of his form, thus raising his value. In summing up his assessment of the trade from the Marlins' point of view, Bassett accurately writes this: 'Alcantara's trade value is at an all-time low. Although the Marlins have undergone a massive rebuild, which has seen them trade almost everybody of note from their roster over the last couple of years, they should hold off on trading their current ace.'
