Tiger carcass found in Sundarbans
Tiger deaths in the Sundarbans go undetected due to the challenging terrain.
According to officials, the carcass was found near Bonnie Camp, a popular tourist spot in the South 24 Parganas forest division, on Friday morning by the department staff. Nisha Goswami, the divisional forest officer, said that the tiger had probably died of old age.

"It is a male tiger, aged around 14 years. No external injury was found on its body. So far, it seems that the tiger had died due to old age. A post-mortem has been done and samples have been collected for histopathological and other necessary tests," said a senior official.
Sources said the tiger was seen by the staff in the forest near the camp water body a few days before its death.
The last tiger death officially reported from the Indian Sundarbans, as per National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) data, was that of a male tiger in May 30, 2021, at Harikhali inside the tiger reserve.
The reserve-wise tiger mortality data on NTCA website revealed that between 2012 and 2024, seven tiger deaths were reported from the Sundarbans.
According to sources, NTCA treats all tiger deaths as unnatural unless proven otherwise with solid evidence, such as histopathological and forensic assessments, photographs, and circumstantial evidence.

Embracing distinctiveness
Education is a matter of freedom. Education is not about imparting narratives but a process to deconstruct and let the students construct knowledge according to their abilities. The sky is not blue for everyone. I might have my way to paint it; I can have my distinct sky. Similarly, teachers and gurus are never meant to impose their personal narratives on students; rather, teachers are meant to showcase experiences for the student to build around those experiences and shape his or her understanding of a concept or event. As put forth by legal scholar Upendra Baxi in his writings, the transplantation of knowledge is often contextless. Similarly, mere transplantation of narratives is not going to serve the higher purpose of education. Education is not merely rote learning, but is about making students smart. Their analytical skills grow when a teacher grants a wide horizon to students, to showcase their vibrancy; a concrete boundary always hinders growth. The Indian education system is shaped around the sedimentation of knowledge. The importance given to scoring marks often makes children lose their true selves and distinctiveness. A bad sense of competition and an idea of being a part of a rat race do not allow students to learn from each other. We lose the real essence of education. We forget that all great personalities had a spark in them, they believed in inventing and experimenting. This is what the education system should promote: trying new things and out-of-the-box thinking. Remember that weeds are also flowers that refuse to grow in a row, we are all built uniquely by the divine. Every individual has a distinctive skill that they are born with; the education system should focus on polishing such skills. We all have our distinctive voices, and education is just meant to empower us to use those. Each child is like a flower, having his or her own pace of growth. They shall be nurtured and nourished by the teachers individually, just like a gardener takes care of plants. The intake of a huge number of students into an educational institution for monetary growth often compromises personalised assistance by educators. An idea of reverse learning/teaching can be used to further this aim of growth. Here, the students should be given a chance to teach the teachers various topics; this will enhance their analytical skills, reading capacity, and communication ability, thus fostering confidence. A teacher-student relationship is indeed a fiduciary relationship, unlike a master-servant relationship; here, one cannot act as an oppressor over the other, and both should grow equally. In line with the thoughts of liberation, transformation, and humanitarianism, the teachers shall not shape the reality for students but, rather, grant them the ability to perceive the reality through their sensory abilities. shambhvi2018@

Devotees throng Khira Chora Gopinath temple
1 2 3 4 Balasore: Janmashtami was celebrated at the famous Khirachora Gopinath Temple in Remuna, Balasore district, on Saturday. Steeped in legend, the temple is one of the most prominent Vaishnav shrines in Odisha. Nando Utsav will be celebrated on Sunday. According to temple tradition, the deity earned the name Khirachora Gopinath (Gopinath, the thief of milk pudding) centuries ago when Lord Krishna, moved by the longing of his ardent devotee Madhavendra Puri, secretly kept aside a portion of the famous khira bhoga (milk pudding) and delivered it to him through the temple priest. Since then, the temple has become a centre of faith and pilgrimage, drawing devotees from across the country. Constructed during the reign of King Langula Narasinghadeva of the Ganga dynasty, the shrine houses three deities—Madan Mohan, Govinda, and Gopinath. The absence of Goddess Radha here is linked to ancient lore, and priests say this makes the temple unique in its traditions. Each day, nearly 300 to 400 litres of milk are brought from nearby villages to prepare the celebrated "amrutakeli" (sweetened condensed milk offering) using traditional wooden stoves. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The prasad, famed for its purity, is served in earthen pots and distributed among devotees. Pilgrims from far and wide throng Remuna. "This is my first visit with my family from Kolkata. On Janmashtami, we feel truly blessed to have the darshan of Lord Gopinath," said Gouranga Pal, a devotee from Kolkata. Another devotee, Triptirekha Mohanty from Keonjhar, who has been visiting for two years, said "The temple radiates immense spiritual energy. Whatever we pray for, Lord Gopinath listens." Temple sevayat (priest) Jayanta Kumar Baral narrated the ancient story connecting Lord Rama to the shrine. "During his exile, when goddess Sita asked about his next incarnation, Lord Rama drew the image of Khirachora Gopinath," he said. Executive officer Prashant Mahapatra said the rituals would continue until late in the night. "Special pujas are being performed. Devotees believe that darshan of the three deities here —Madan Mohan, Govinda, and Gopinath —completes the spiritual experience," he said. Netaji's daughter seeks return of father's remains from Japan
Kolkata: Subhas Chandra Bose's daughter Anita Bose Pfaff has yet again appealed to Union govt to repatriate the freedom fighter's ashes that lie in a temple in Tokyo. Netaji died in a plane crash in Taihoku, modern day Taipei City, on Aug 18, 1945. He was en route to Tokyo following Emperor Hirohito's announcement of Japan's surrender in a nationwide radio message, which ended Japan's support for his and the Indian National Army's struggle for India's independence. In a statement issued on the eve of his 80th death anniversary, Pfaff appealed that her father's remains be brought from the Renko-ji Temple in Tokyo. She had made a similar appeal on the eve of Netaji's 128th birth anniversary on Jan 23 this year. The crash on Aug 18 resulted in severe burns, leading to his death the same day. He was cremated in Taipei, and his remains were subsequently taken to Tokyo. The head priest of Renko-ji Temple agreed to safeguard Netaji's remains "for a few months" at the request of the Indian community in Tokyo. Nearly a century later, his remains continue to be honoured and cared for by the current generation of head priests. "When asked about his greatest fear, Netaji reportedly stated it was 'to be in exile'. He had returned to India from exile in Europe in the 1930s despite warnings of immediate imprisonment. He only escaped from India again to avoid renewed imprisonment, continuing his fight for freedom from abroad and remaining in exile until death. As Netaji's daughter I invite Indians of today who still remember him and respect him to support his posthumous return from exile, to support the transfer of his mortal remains to India for a final disposal," Pfaff said. Other Bose family members in Kolkata have also appealed to the Union govt to bring back the ashes. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
