Similarly, government-aided Arts and Science colleges will be allowed to take in 15% additional candidates, while private colleges will be allowed to enrol 10% more students.

Will approach court if assent not given to establish college in Kalaignar's name: Higher Education Minister

The Tamil Nadu government will seek legal recourse, if necessary, to obtain the Governor's assent to a resolution passed in the Assembly to establish a college in memory of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Kumbakonam, Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan said here on Monday. Speaking at a book release event at his official residence, Mr. Chezhiaan stated that he and the Higher Education Secretary had sought an appointment with the Governor to discuss this issue but did not receive a response. 'If the assent is not given soon, the CM has already stated that we will approach the court and seek assent,' he told reporters. He stated that the State government had attempted to contact the Governor by phone and had also written to him, but there was no response. 'The reason is he squirms when he hears the name of Kalaignar, or Tamil or Semmozhi. The people of Tamil Nadu know about this trait well.' He recalled that the Supreme Court had already laid down guidelines for the Governor's actions based on a case filed by the Tamil Nadu government.

DMK won't be intimidated by ED or Modi: Udhaya

Pudukottai: The central govt was trying to intimidate the DMK by weaponizing ED, but the state govt will not yield to those tactics, deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said on Saturday. Later at a meeting, Udhayanidhi also alleged that Income Tax department and ED, which are all 'working for the BJP' have already started their 'election' work. Speaking to reporters after chairing a review meeting with district officials in Pudukottai, Udhayanidhi dismissed opposition claims regarding chief minister M K Stalin's participation in the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. He said it was to secure funds rightfully due to the state, and not out of fear of raids. "I have said many times that we will not be intimidated either by the ED or by Modi. The DMK was founded by Kalaignar and is a party of self-respect, rooted in the principles of Periyar. It is not a party with a servitude mindset. We have done nothing wrong, and therefore, there is no reason to fear," he said. Udhayanidhi said the chief minister has allocated Rs3.5 crore to revive construction of a multipurpose indoor stadium in the district sports complex in Pudukottai, for which construction began in 2015 but was stopped due to funding issues. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Udhayanidhi distributed welfare assistance to 1,175 beneficiaries, amounting to ₹40.05 crore. Later in the evening, addressing a conference organised by DMK medical wing, he hailed state govt schemes like 'Nan Mudhalvan' and 'Pudhumai pen,' and criticised the Union govt for allegedly planning to snatch state autonomy. Udhayanidhi hit out at the BJP-AIADMK alliance, calling it an act of 'hypocrisy' by AIADMK. He said Edappadi Palaniswami had declared four months ago that there would be no alliance with BJP even in 2031. "Yet he has now fallen at their feet and they have gone back to their old masters. If they return to power, AIADMK will surrender Tamil Nadu and its autonomy to the BJP," he said. He urged all sections of the DMK to begin preparations to secure more than 200 seats in the coming election.
