What to Stream: Offset, John Cena, John Grisham and legal fights by Jussie Smollett and Amanda Knox

Migos rapper Offset releasing his third solo album and Samara Weaving playing a reformed getaway driver in the heist thriller 'Eenie Meanie' are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you. Also among the streaming offerings worth your time, as selected by The Associated Press' entertainment journalists: An adaptation of John Grisham's 'The Rainmaker' hits Peacock, John Cena stars as a flawed superhero in season 2 of 'The Peacemaker' and the Amanda Knox trial in Italy gets dramatized in a Hulu series. New movies to stream from Aug. 18-24 — Samara Weaving plays a reformed getaway driver who gets pulled back in to save a problematic ex-boyfriend in 'Eenie Meanie,' a new heist thriller streaming on Hulu on Friday, Aug. 22. Karl Glusman plays the pathetic ex in this intriguing ensemble that includes Steve Zahn, Andy Garcia, Randall Park and Marshawn Lynch. 'Deadpool' writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick produced the film, which is the directorial debut of writer-director Shawn Simmons. — Remember the strange Jussie Smollett saga that began back in January 2019 when the 'Empire' actor told police that two men assaulted him in an apparent hate crime which investigators began to believe was a hoax? It's the subject of a new Netflix documentary 'The Truth About Jussie Smollett?' streaming on Friday, Aug. 22. The ordeal stretched on for years and in November the Illinois Supreme Court overturned Smollett's conviction on charges of staging a racist and homophobic attack against himself in 2019 and lying to Chicago police. The trailer for the doc, which includes interviews with journalists, lawyers, investigators and law enforcement, teases a new sit-down interview with Smollett himself. — Swedish filmmaker Lasse Hallström takes audiences on a romantic journey through Europe with an American girl (Madelyn Cline) and a New Zealander (KJ Apa) in 'The Map That Leads to You,' streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday. It's based on the 2017 J.P. Monninger novel. — AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr New music to stream from Aug. 18-24 — On Friday, Migos rapper Offset will release his third solo album, 'Kiari.' The title is his legal name — a direct reflection of the album he described to The Associated Press earlier this month as 'a look in the mirror.' He said it's a collection of 'different versions of Offset, which comes from Kiari … I'm always trying to rebrand and recreate.' Start with 'Bodies,' a red-hot collaboration that marries Offset's melodic, aggressive flow and the dexterous lyricist JID atop a sample of nu-metal band Drowning Pool's 2001 cut 'Bodies.' It's become a 2025 Billboard Hot 100 hit for a reason. — Who would've thought, nearly 40 years after their formation, that the California shoegaze-y nu-metal band Deftones would become more popular than ever before? They've found new and nostalgic audiences online and have quickly become recognized as one of the most influential bands of the 2000s — 20 years after the fact. On Friday, they will release a new album 'Private Music.' And they sound as tight as ever. — AP Music Writer Maria Sherman New series to stream from Aug. 18-24 — The Amanda Knox trial gets dramatized in a Hulu series called 'The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.' Knox is an executive producer on the project, as is Monica Lewinsky. Grace Van Patten stars as the study abroad student in Italy who finds herself in prison for murdering her housemate, Meredith Kercher. The case becomes a media sensation and Knox is called Foxy Knoxy — among other things — by the tabloids. The series also shares more of the story of Raffaele Sollecito, Knox's boyfriend at the time, who was also convicted of the murder. Both had their sentences thrown out by Italy's highest court in 2015. We also see Knox's difficulty adjusting to regular life after she returns to the States. The eight-episode series premieres Wednesday. — John Cena stars as a flawed superhero in Season 2 of 'The Peacemaker' arriving on HBO Max on Thursday. It's the first release of a DC Comics story after 'Superman ' flew into theaters earlier this summer. James Gunn, who is co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, directed 'Superman' and is the showrunner of 'The Peacemaker.' — A new Prime Video docuseries called 'The Home Team: NY Jets' followed six Jets players and their partners for the 2024-2025 NFL season. We see the home life of these pros as they also juggle the demands of the sport. The filmmakers also made the documentary 'Kelce' about former Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce in his 2022 season. It debuts Thursday. — An adaptation of John Grisham 's 'The Rainmaker' hits Peacock on Friday, Aug. 22. The legal thriller is airing on the USA Network and the streamer drops each episode a week later. Milo Callaghan plays Rudy Baylor, who is fresh out of law school and about to start working at the largest law firm in the state. On his first day, Baylor gets fired so he takes a job at a small ambulance-chasing firm that works out of a former taco joint. Rudy's first big case pits him against the big, fancy law firm that let him go — and his girlfriend who still works there. — Alicia Rancilio New video games to play from Aug. 18-24 — You don't see many surfboards in video games — most virtual riders would rather pick up a skateboard or snowboard. The 'hoversword' at the heart of Sword of the Sea pushes back at that bias by combining all three. It throws in the ability to surf on sand, which is helpful given that your world is essentially one big desert. Your character, the Wraith, is exploring ancient ruins in search of long-lost artifacts. Master the right techniques and you get to surf on actual water. Publisher Giant Squid is led by Matt Nava, who was the art director on the 2012 indie classic Journey, and Sword of the Sea shares that game's meditative vibe. Disney+ to stream live European football each weekend in major schedule shake-up

Top Spanish clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are heading to Disney+ as the streamer lands a three year deal with La Liga. Disney+ has announced a major shake-up in its schedule, including the addition of live European football. From Saturday (August 16), the streamer will kick off its live weekend coverage of the Spanish La Liga. This means some of the biggest names in club football will be shown on the platform, including the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. The first game to air on Disney+ will see Valencia host Real Sociedad at the iconic Mestalla Stadium, with kick off set for 8:30pm UK time. La Liga games are available with a regular Disney+ subscription, which starts at £4.99 per month on a rolling monthly plan that can be cancelled at any time. Customers can also get the equivalent of two months free by paying for a year upfront on the Standard or Premium plan. Sky Sports' football plan is 66p a day ahead of Premier League and EFL season 'I tried Dr Hilary Jones-backed way of treating allergies and it worked' This plan offers higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR, and 12 months for the price of 10. Production and commentary during La Liga games will be provided by ESPN, with a line-up of familiar voices including Real Madrid and Liverpool legend Steve McManaman leading the team. He features alongside former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Stewart Robson, while broadcasters Ian Darke and Rob Palmer will alternate play-by-play duties throughout the season. Disney's La Liga coverage is part of a new three-year deal and comes as the streamer also becomes the home of the UEFA Women's Champions League across Europe from October. However, football fans hoping to tune into the new Premier League season will need to secure a Sky Sports subscription, with the broadcaster increasing its coverage to 215 games from this season. According to Disney+, La Liga is the most-followed international football league in the UK. This is boosted by high-profile signings of English players, including Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who both play for Real Madrid, while Marcus Rashford kicks off his loan spell at Barcelona. Popular Spanish players also add to the league's allure, with homegrown talents including Lamine Yamal (Barcelona), Nico Williams (Athletic Club) and Alex Baena (Atlético Madrid). However, fans should keep in mind that Disney+ will not broadcast every La Liga fixture, with only select Saturday night games selected for broadcast. Karl Holmes, General Manager, Disney+ EMEA, said: 'At Disney, we celebrate storytelling that moves and excites. From the cinematic scale of FX's Alien: Earth to the sharp wit of Only Murders in the Building and the action-packed suspense of Lucasfilm's Andor, our customers know they're in for something special. Now, with LALIGA joining the line-up, they can experience that same excitement on the pitch with weekly matches featuring legendary clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona and stars like Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold as part of their Disney+ subscription.' Alongside La Liga, the Disney+ library spans everything from documentaries to critically acclaimed drama, comedy to classic animation. Also on the way are new sci-fi series Alien: Earth (August 13), the second instalment of National Geographic docuseries Limitless: Live Better Now with Chris Hemsworth (August 15) and season five of Only Murders in the Building (September 9).

Blood of My Blood star Jamie Roy's inside life from failed Outlander auditions to actress girlfriend

Fans of Outlander: Blood of Blood are keen to know more about the actor Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiered to a strong start and a hugely positive fan reaction. ‌ The show continues this week and viewers are keen to know about the cast of the show, including Scottish star Jamie Roy who plays Brian Fraser and the father of Outlander's heroic Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and has shared behind-the-scenes snaps from filming. ‌ Here's a look at the star's life, including his early years, how he lost out on a role in Outlander and who he's currently dating. ‌ Jamie Roy's early life The 32-year-old actor, who was born in Greenock on the West Coast of Scotland, before his family moved to the small town of Lenzie just outside of Glasgow. He only came to acting later on after attending business school in Glasgow and getting a business degree at Strathclyde University. After graduating he landed a desk job and decided it wasn't for him, before starting to take acting classes at night while working during the day. Roy later got the chance to move to the US after he landed a job at a firm in America, but decided to turn it down and pursue acting instead. He move to Miami, Florida in 2016 and continued to follow his dreaming of acting. He admitted to Glamour how he'd felt like an 'outsider for the longest time' as he'd not attended drama school or had any formal training apart from his 'fantastic acting classes and life'. ‌ During his time in Florida he worked on stage at Disney theme parks, which he said served as some of his 'best training' because he was in front of a stage of 1,000 people for each show. In 2019, he moved to LA and continued to act before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but afterwards he started to get some film roles as he built up his acting CV. Roy is now a US citizen according to IMDb and splits his time between Scotland and LA. ‌ Jamie Roy's failed Outlander auditions Before landing the lead in the Outlander prequel series, Roy went for the part of Militia Man Number One in season seven but failed to get the role. ‌ Roy said: 'I thought that I was going to get this role, I was pinned for it, and then didn't get it and was heartbroken.' Only later did he learn, after being cast as Brian, that he'd been dropped from the role after senior Starz TV executives wanted to keep him for Blood of My Blood - even before the show had been greenlit. He added: 'It just shows you that you never know what's happening behind closed doors and what fate has in store for you. It all worked out as it was meant to, I suppose.' ‌ Roy also revealed how he went for another part in a storyline involving Roger MacKenzie's (Richard Rankin) in Outlander, but didn't get the role either. Brian Fraser was Roy's third audition for the Outlander team. Since taking on Blood of My Blood, Roy has revealed he's received support from Heughan, who has given him a wealth of advice. "[He told] me just to appreciate every moment, even on the tough days, because it goes past so quickly,' Roy told People in a recent chat. ‌ Jamie Roy's sweet romance with fellow actress Roy has been in a relationship with fellow actress Annika Foster for five years. She previously posted a series of snaps on her Instagram account of them posing on Edinburgh's Royal Mile to mark their two-year anniversary back in 2023. ‌ Along with the sweet photos, she captioned the post: 'happy 2-year honey (mustard) ilysm [sic].' More recently, Foster shared a photo of them from Los Angeles as well as a Blood of My Blood billboard, showing her support for her partner's work. ‌ The 31-year-old American actress has starred in Meeting You, Meeting Me, The Drawing and Burning Lies. Some of her other roles include short film Perfidious, Melody, Prom Nightmare and Isolation Experiment, the latter two are in post-production. Foster's forthcoming projects include Crossing Stars and Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary. ‌ Roy and Foster worked together on the 2021 film Burning Lies in which they played love interests. Last year, the couple appeared together in the independent movie Meeting You, Meeting Me. Aside from her acting career, Foster had also worked as a part-time nanny and enjoys travelling the world, according to her interview on the Real Conversations with Jacob Young podcast. ‌ She said: 'I live in a studio apartment with my partner. And it's actually … pretty easy.' Adding: 'But I forget to go to work. I nanny on the side and I come home and he's here.' Outlander season 8 will air on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video in early 2026
