Aubrey Plaza sits courtside at WNBA game as she continues to return to public eye after husband Jeff Baena's suicide

Actor Aubrey Plaza continued to return to the public eye Tuesday night, eight months on from her husband Jeff Baena's tragic death. The filmmaker, who Plaza married in 2021, died by suicide aged 47 in January, after which it was revealed they had split four months before his death. The grief-stricken star has kept a low profile since his devastating passing but made a rare public appearance this week when she was spotted courtside at a WNBA game. Plaza soaked up the action at Barclays Center as the New York Liberty took on the Minnesota Lynx in a rematch of last year's WNBA Finals. She was joined by broadway and legend and close friend Patti LuPone, who she starred alongside in the hit Marvel series, 'Agatha All Along,' last year. The pair appeared to be in good spirits as they were spotted waving a flag on the sidelines and being greeted by Ellie the Elephant, the Liberty's iconic mascot. Plaza cut a casual figure in athletic shorts and an oversized t-shirt, while LuPone donned a blue and white printed jumpsuit and leather jacket, finishing off her look with a pair of blacked out sunglasses. The duo became fast friends while working on the set of 'Agatha All Along,' with Plaza even briefly moving in with the on-stage icon while Plaza was performing a play. Plaza's courtside appearance came just hours after she gave her first interview following her husband's death. The 'Agatha All Along' star detailed her grief as she joined her close friend and former 'Parks and Rec' co-star Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast. 'Just to get it out the way, people want to see you and want to see how you are, they love you. You've had this terrible, terrible, tragic year...,' Amy said. 'You lost your husband, you've been dealing with that and you've been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support.' When Amy asked how she was feeling, Aubrey stated: 'Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I'm okay, but it's like a daily struggle'. She went on: 'This is a really dumb analogy and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I actually mean it. Did you see that movie The Gorge? It's like [an] alien movie or something with Miles Teller... Aubrey Plaza is here for Liberty/Lynx tonight! — Myles (@MylesEhrlich) August 19, 2025 'In the movie, there's like a cliff on one side and there's a cliff on the other side, then there's gorge in between and it's filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them. I swear when I watched it... 'I was like that feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like. At all times there's like a giant ocean of awfulness, that's like right there and I can see it... 'Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it's always there.' The Gorge is a 2025 movie starring Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sigourney Weaver, with a synopsis listed as: 'Two highly-trained operatives are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge... 'Protecting the world from a mysterious evil that lurks within. They work together to keep the secret in the gorge.' Her chat with Amy is her first discussion of her grief, having made a brief comment about his passing shortly after, saying through a representative: 'This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support... 'Please respect our privacy during this time." In March, it was revealed that Aubrey had secretly split from Jeff just four months before his shock suicide at 47 after parting ways in September last year. An LA County Medical Examiner's autopsy report obtained by revealed that the filmmaker and actress had separated back in September of last year, and she had been living in New York at the time his body was discovered on January 3. The report detailed how the Life After Beth director had been 'experiencing marital difficulties' in his final months and how he had been in therapy. An investigator noted in the documents that Aubrey, whose name was redacted in the final report, said she had spoken with Jeff the night before his death. The report also tragically revealed that Aubrey had been concerned for her estranged husband's wellbeing. The paperwork said: 'In October 2024, Baena made concerning remarks to [Plaza] which prompted her to call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband. Baena had been attending therapy since that event.' The medical examiner's report also determined that Baena did not have drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his death. It stated that Aubrey 'knew her husband to be alive' as of January 3 because he had sent her a text message that morning. The report indicated that a dog walker discovered his body after hearing loud music coming from his home, which she said was 'unusual.' After she called him and didn't get an answer, she entered the home and discovered his remains.

At-risk cancer treatment bus service for Jersey patients saved

A free bus service transporting cancer patients from Jersey arriving in England to University Hospital Southampton (UHS) has been saved from closure. Wessex Cancer Support's Daisy Bus is used by patients travelling for treatment from the Isle of Wight, as well as those from the Channel Islands staying in hotels in charity said external funding from the States of Jersey had been withdrawn and the service was due to end on 20 of the campaign said they were "delighted to announce" that the bus would continue running over the next few weeks after more than £9,000 was raised. In a statement on the campaign, organisers said: "We are delighted to announce that the cancer patient transport service in Southampton, previously delivered by the Daisy Bus, will continue uninterrupted over the next few weeks while we put plans in place for a permanent replacement service. "This is thanks to the incredible generosity of Islanders over the last few days."The Government of Jersey previously said it was withdrawing funding as falling numbers of patients from Jersey meant it was costing £60 per passenger journey - significantly more than a taxi bus runs five times a day between the Leonardo Hotel, Deanery Court, Ocean Village and the RedJet terminal at Town Quay, taking patients to UHS.A similar service, connecting Portsmouth's ferry terminal with the Queen Alexandra Hospital, will continue for the time buses are run jointly by Wessex Cancer Support and local NHS trusts in Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, but are not funded by the NHS.

Teddi Mellencamp emerges after revealing why Brandon Blackstock's death hit her 'hard'

Teddi Mellencamp stepped out in Los Angeles on Tuesday, days after revealing why the death of Brandon Blackstock hit especially close to home. The 44-year-old admitted on a recent episode of her podcast that it was difficult to learn that Blackstock had passed from the same ailment she has been diagnosed with - melanoma. But she kept her spirits lifted on Tuesday, grabbing food with a pal in an especially head-turning look. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum mixed fashion with function in a silky pajama-style ensemble consisting of a partially buttoned blue blouse and matching flowing trousers. She strode across the street, feet slipped into mesh flats, and a beaded necklace injecting a further touch of glam. As she waited at the intersection, she brushed loose strays of her hair away from her face. Last week, Teddi opened up to listeners of her Two Ts In A Pod podcast about how difficult it had been to learn Brandon had passed following a battle with melanoma. The talent manager, who was the ex-husband of Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson, died at age 48 on August 7, some three years after being diagnosed with the dangerous skin cancer. 'The Brandon Blackstock story really hit me hard this week,' Teddi, who was diagnosed with the same affliction three years ago, told listeners. 'I wish I would have missed that little detail in the World Wide Web because then I started doing research and they were so quiet about [his diagnosis],' Teddi told listeners. 'I mean, we know he passed from melanoma. They announced that.' 'We're assuming that it had metastasized,' Teddi's podcast host, Tamra Judge, said to her pal. 'I was wondering, when did it metastasize?,' Teddi wondered aloud, adding, 'like this is just where my head goes from being in the situation, did he decline treatment?' 'There's so many different ways that this could have happened,' she explained, adding, 'and like I have one million [percent] respect their choice to keep it private.' Tamra suggested the dedicated equestrian could reach out to Kelly for some more details to be shared privately. For Teddi, the death of Brandon Blackstock from melanoma has hit close to home. Mellencamp was diagnosed with melanoma in 2022. Blackstock died on August 7 after a three-year-battle with the disease Kelly, who shared children River, 11, and Remington, nine, with Brandon has not made any public comment regarding his death. Wondering about what kinds of treatment Brandon received, Teddi queried, 'Maybe he did immunotherapy? Maybe he did chemotherapy? We don't know.' 'I don't know, but those kind of stories hit you hard, when it directly sounds similar to something that you're going through,' she said. Teddi was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2022, but the disease has since spread to her brain and lungs. She revealed this past April that her cancer had progressed to stage four. Teddi has undergone 16 surgeries since her diagnosis, including the removal of four brain tumors. Mellencamp has had 16 surgeries to battle the deadly melanoma attacking her body The reality star had four brain tumors removed earlier this year. She has also undergone radiation and immunotherapy treatments. She has also undergone radiation and immunotherapy treatments She has also used radiation and immunotherapy to fight the disease. On July 29, she shared with her Instagram followers that she was doing well after taking a break from immunotherapy. 'Feeling better and not taking it for granted. Which means I'm back to work after taking last week off,' she shared next to a selfie. 'And if you know me that was completely against my instincts. I guess you could call that growth.' 'Having cancer has broken my heart but has taught me so much about myself,' she told her fans.
