Ford recalls thousands of vehicles in South Africa
The recall includes:
Ford Ranger
Ford Mustang
Ford EcoSport
Ford Everest
Ford Transit Custom
The issues range from infotainment and camera system failures to mechanical concerns that may increase the risk of accidents.
The company has identified a serious issue in eight 2025 Ford Ranger vehicles where the transmission main valve body's internal dimensions do not meet engineering specifications. This defect can cause the following problems:
Vehicle may fail to move in reverse gear.
Vehicle may move forward when placed in reverse or neutral.
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) and Wrench light will illuminate.
Unexpected forward motion increases the risk of an accident. Ford is sourcing replacement parts, expected to arrive by October 2025, and will notify affected owners.
Certain models built between 2018 and 2023 may experience system instability in the SYNC infotainment unit. This occurs after repeated short ignition cycles, leading to:
Frozen or blank rear-view camera images.
Rear-view images remaining on screen after reversing.
A frozen image may mislead drivers about their surroundings, raising the risk of a collision. 33 vehicles in South Africa are affected, broken down as follows:
Ford Mustang – 30
Ford EcoSport – 1
Ford Ranger – 1
Ford Everest – 1
Ford expects to provide a software update by the third quarter of 2025.
The largest recall involves 20,693 vehicles built between 2021 and 2025. Ford reports that the infotainment screens in affected vehicles may:
Freeze, then reboot with a black screen.
Freeze or delay the rear-view camera while reversing.
This defect impacts visibility and increases accident risks. The affected vehicles include:
Ford Ranger – 16,820
Ford Everest – 3,199
Ford Transit Custom – 674
Ford anticipates a fix by the third quarter of 2025.
Ford emphasised that all repairs will be completed free of charge once solutions are available.

Image: Supplied Following the launch of the Ford Tourneo Custom last year, Ford has added two more variations with the reveal of the Custom Sport and range-topping Titanium X. With these two passenger-centric people carriers, the company hopes to increase its market share of the MPV segment. Both are built on short wheelbase configurations, but still keep their eight-seater configurations, while the Active and Trend versions in the line-up use the long wheelbase platform with additional luggage capacity. Let's take a closer look at what these two models have to offer. Custom Sport It takes many of the exterior design cues from the Transit Custom Sport van, including the honeycomb-style grille and full body-colour front bumper, Sport body kit with a rear spoiler, as well as dual black and blue sport stripes that run from the front bumper over the vehicle and down the rear door and bumper which are complemented by side decals. LED rear lights are standard, and it rolls on 17-inch alloy rims with the option of 19-inch versions. The interior looks more hip, I suppose you could say, than the range topper, especially with the blue accent stripes for the seats, partial leather trim and piano black on the dash. The instrument cluster is digital and has various configurations, and the 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system is equipped with Ford's Sync4 system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with 10 speakers. The designers have added extra front cabin space and increased instrument panel storage, allowing places to keep laptops or A4 folder-sized items in covered dashboard storage. Driver assistance features include Adaptive Cruise Control, front and reverse parking aids, Reverse Brake Assist, Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), dual heated mirrors and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Titanium X It's set apart by a different grille treatment, Matrix LED headlights and 19-inch alloy wheels. In addition to what's on offer in the Sport, the Titanium X gets a powered front passenger seat and a 360-degree camera. For both derivatives, there's a Mobile Office pack option that includes enhanced cabin lighting, laptop and tablet stowage between the seats, an integrated rubbish bin and accessory docking. Image: Supplied Seating configuration Like most of its competitors in the people carrier segment, the Ford Tourneo's track-mounted seating system can be moved and adapted as needed. The tracked seating allows the seats to slide forward or back along notched tracks set into the cabin floor, or they can be lifted out completely. Cleverly, the seats feature integrated seatbelts, so reconfiguring the cabin can be done with a lot less hassle. ISOFIX points are available on all three seats in the second row, as well as the two outboard seats in the third row. Engine Both models are powered by Ford's single-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 125kW 390Nm of torque, up from the 100kW and 360Nm outputs of the Active and Trend derivatives. It's fitted to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels with five drive modes: Normal, Eco, Slippery, Tow/Haul and Sport. Image: Supplied Driving Our launch route was around some of the highways and back roads in Durban, and what struck us was how comfortable the seats and driving position are. Thanks to its van architecture and large windscreen, there's a commanding view behind the wheel of what is happening in front of you. There's a lot of road construction and maintenance going on in the area with heavy traffic, but in the short bursts we got to engage the engine properly, it provided more than enough acceleration. The Tourneo felt well-balanced and evenly weighted around some of the hilly sections we drove, with decent steering feedback for the type of vehicle it is. The improved vehicle architecture and independent rear suspension provide the Tourneo with a solid feel over some serious road imperfections, where construction was taking place on the N3. Whether we were driving slowly uphill out of parking areas or out and about, engine and gearbox calibration proved to be absolutely spot on, with changes throughout the rev range slick and on point. As a passenger being shuttled back to the airport, the amount of space for four of us facing each other was truly impressive, and that can only be done in a bus, not an SUV. The world and indeed South Africans are so SUV-focused that it will be interesting to see how the public takes to the Ford Custom Sport and Titanium X as a comfortable and spacious real alternative. Tourneo Custom 2.0L SWB Titanium X 8AT: R1,264,000. It comes with a six-year/90,000km Ford Optional Service Plan, four-year/120,000km Ford warranty, four-year/unlimited distance Roadside Assistance and five-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty. In addition, over-the-counter (OTC) parts and service parts warranty (SPW) are covered for a two-year/unlimited distance. Customers have the option of purchasing Ford Protect Service or Maintenance Plan upgrades up to eight years or 165,000km. The warranty can be extended up to seven years or 200,000km, while the Roadside Assistance can be extended for an additional one or two years.

Product safety recalls for models of Nissan, Citroën and Ford vehicles
The National Consumer Commission has issued an advisory notice of voluntary product recalls for certain Ford, Nissan and Citroën models. Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to take them to the nearest authorised dealership. CITROEN C4, DS4 AND DS5 Stellantis South Africa is recalling Citroën C4, DS4 and DS5 vehicles sold between 2009 and 2016. This is due to concerns that the driver's airbag inflator may rupture during the deployment phase, the commission said. 'This could cause metal fragments to be released into the vehicle cabin, posing a serious risk of injury or even death to the driver and passengers.' NISSAN QASHQAI Nissan is recalling the Qashqai made available for sale from September 2021 to April 2024. The manufacturer has identified that the HR13- Non-Alis — EGI Harness Battery connection may have been incorrectly assembled during production. In this condition, the harness retaining nut may be loose. Under specific driving conditions, there may be an increase in resistance. In an extreme situation, where the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, there is a risk of excessive heat build-up. FORD MUSTANG, EVEREST, RANGER AND TRANSIT CUSTOM VEHICLES Ford Southern Africa has issued a recall for certain 2021 to 2025 model year Mustang, Everest, Ranger, and Transit Custom vehicles made available across South Africa. The infotainment of the affected vehicles may freeze, followed by a black screen and a system reboot. If this occurs while reversing, the rear-view camera may be frozen, missing or delayed. MUSTANG, EVEREST, RANGER AND ECOSPORT Ford informed the NCC that the repeated short ignition cycles (time between key on and off) may, over time, result in an error in the SYNC system that could result in system instability or a failure to maintain certain settings between ignition cycles. This error may result in an intermittent blank image while in reverse or the rear-view image remaining on display after reverse driving has ended. The affected vehicles were manufactured from 2019 to 2023. RANGER WILDTRAK Ford Motors is recalling the 2025 Ranger Wildtrak vehicles due to the transmission main valve body's internal dimensions that do not meet the engineering print specifications. The driver may experience no reverse motion when the vehicle is in reverse gear. When the gear selector is in reverse or neutral, the vehicle may unexpectedly move forward. When this occurs, the malfunction indicator light and wrench light will illuminate on the instrument cluster.

Ford recalls 20k vehicles in southern Africa due to safety concerns
JOHANNESBURG - The National Consumer Commission has confirmed yet another recall of certain car models from top manufacturers, including Ford and Nissan. The news comes after the commission issued a two-page notice of the move earlier on Wednesday. Giant car maker Ford is recalling more than 20,000 vehicles in southern Africa due to safety concerns. This includes the Ranger and Everest models built between 2021 and 2025. This is the second vehicle recall this month, after another four in the previous month. In each instant, safety concerns have been cited. Motorists are advised to take their vehicles to their nearest dealers for assessment.
