Celeste Ntuli gears up for 'Celeste & DA BIG DUDES' after winning Comedian of the Year

The Star22-07-2025
Fresh off her win as Comedian of the Year, Celeste Ntuli is bringing the heat with her latest comedy spectacular, Celeste & DA BIG DUDES. Known for her fearless humour and commanding stage presence, Ntuli promises a night of unfiltered laughs, bold truths, and the kind of energy only she can deliver.
Marking 20 years in the comedy industry, Ntuli described winning the Comedian of the Year award at the Savanna Comics' Choice Comedy Awards as one of the most humbling moments of her career.
She said receiving the award from Mpho Popps, a fellow comedian she began her journey with, made the moment even more special. It was a reminder of how far she has come, prompting her to quietly reflect on her growth, from humble beginnings to a celebrated career with exciting paths still ahead.
'To be recognised in this way, and by someone who has walked this journey with me from the very beginning, was truly emotional,' she said. 'When your career hasn't been heavily sponsored, and every step has been earned stride by stride, you realise that God has been in charge all along.'
Ntuli also expressed gratitude for the opportunities she's had to produce her shows, highlighting the importance of supporting fellow artists.
She shared, 'I've been truly fortunate to not only do my shows but to bring other talented artists along with me. I need to create spaces where we can all grow and shine together.' This collaborative spirit, she believes, is key to strengthening the comedy community and nurturing new voices.
Ntuli, who is set to host the third instalment of Celeste & DA BIG DUDES, described the journey as incredible. The show uniquely blends comedy with live music, selling out in 2024 with a star-studded lineup featuring Bangani Fassie and Sjava.
This year's lineup promises to be just as electrifying, featuring performances by DJ Fresh, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Buhlebendalo, and Maseven. Growing up in a musical family, her dad had a band, and Ntuli has always had music close to her heart, which she seamlessly weaves into her comedy shows.
Reflecting on the growing scale of the event, she shared, 'I told Fresh this year, I'm starting to get scared of the show because, wow, I wasn't ready for myself to have such a handful of artists. I've always been part of a band, my dad had a band, and music has been a huge part of my life. It's what I love, and it's what I bring into my shows.'
She also hinted that she is currently working on an exciting new project for Netflix. While she couldn't share full details just yet, Ntuli teased that fans will see her in a role unlike anything she's done before, featuring hair weaves and a strikingly different persona.
'I'm loving the character. Wavy. It's not me, but I'm loving it. I've been waiting for a character like this since shooting Isibaya , that's drastically different. She's your ordinary girl, and I like what she represents as a woman. She's so faulty to the core,' Ntuli added.
Ntuli also shared that she plans to revisit two personal projects close to her heart, her podcast and a book that has been in the works for some time. She admitted that she had to pause the writing process because it became emotionally overwhelming, and she was not satisfied with how it was coming together.
'I didn't like how it sounded. It was hard to go that deep.' However, she's hopeful about picking it up again once her current projects are complete, saying the timing will soon be right to tell her story the way she envisions it.
Celeste & DA BIG DUDES will take place on August 8 at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, starting at 8 PM. Tickets are available from Ticketpro, starting at R250. The Durban leg of the show is set for December 19, followed by the Cape Town edition on December 20.

Harry and Meghan sign reduced deal with Netflix

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will continue to develop film and TV projects for Netflix but on more limited terms, the streaming giant announced on Monday. The estranged British royal and his wife have worked with Netflix since 2020, producing documentary 'Harry & Meghan' and lifestyle series 'With Love, Meghan.' The latter showcased the Duchess of Sussex as a thriving domestic maven, hosting guests, harvesting honey and mixing bath salts against an idyllic California backdrop. It has been extended for a second season, and a holiday special due in December, Netflix said. But while the pair's previous Netflix deal bought the streamer exclusive rights to their output, the new multi-year agreement is a 'first look deal' In Hollywood parlance, this means Netflix has the right to say yes or no to a project before Harry and Meghan's media company Archewell Productions can shop it around other studios. Typically, first-look deals are less lucrative than exclusive deals, though they also provide producers with more flexibility. 'We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the 'As ever' brand,' said Meghan, referring to her recently re-branded line of lifestyle products including rose wine and apricot spreads. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, described Harry and Meghan as 'influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere,' in the statement. Harry and Meghan wed in a fairytale ceremony in 2018, before splitting from the British royal family and moving to California two years later. Cut off from the royal purse, the pair signed their first Netflix deal in 2020 for a reported $100 million. That figure was never confirmed, and no financial terms have been revealed for the extension. The New York Times reported Monday that the new deal is worth less for Harry and Meghan than the previous agreement, citing a person familiar with the terms. 'Harry & Meghan,' a six-episode tell-all about their relationship and exit from the House of Windsor, drew 23 million views in its first four days – a record for a Netflix documentary. Despite withering reviews from critics, 'With Love, Meghan' had over five million views in the first half of 2025, making it Netflix's most-watched cooking show. The upcoming holiday special will feature Meghan hosting 'friends and family' as they 'deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs,' the statement promised. Later this year, Netflix will release a short documentary from Archewell Productions about a small orphanage in Uganda. The couple are also producing a 'romance feature adaptation' of Carley Fortune's novel 'Meet Me At The Lake,' though no Netflix release has been confirmed. Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez finally score the ultimate goal: engagement after nine years

Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez shared the joyful news of their engagement on social media. Image: Instagram Cristiano Ronaldo finally got the 'click'! Congratulations are in order for the Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time girlfriend, Georgina Rodríguez, who recently announced their engagement. Taking to Instagram on Monday, August 11, the Argentine-Spanish model shared the exciting news of their engagement as she showed off the giant diamond ring on her wedding finger, with Ronaldo's hand in the frame. The 31-year-old captioned her post: 'Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.' The couple have been together for nine years and met in 2016 when the model was still working at a Gucci store in Madrid. They share two children out of the five kids the award-winning footballer has. The public has closely followed the couple's evolving love story, with much discussion surrounding their relationship and the swiftness of their engagement. They have had mounting pressure from not only the public, but also friends who have always asked when Ronaldo will pop the question since they have been together for such a long time. The model, who starred in her own Netflix reality show 'I Am Georgina' three years ago, had previously commented on engagement rumours, stating on the show that her friends 'were always joking about the wedding.' 'Since Jennifer Lopez's song 'The Ring Or When' came out, they started singing it to me. And well, this is not up to me,' she said. Responding to the model's question, Ronaldo shared that they should wait for the 'click' to get married; however, he is certain that they will get married. 'I always tell her, 'When we get that click.' Like everything with our life, and she knows what I'm talking about,' he said. The footballer also added that the engagement or wedding could happen anytime. 'It could be in a year, or it could be in six months, or it could be in a month. I'm 1,000% sure that it'll happen,' he said. Fans and friends flooded the comment section to congratulate the couple on their engagement news. 'Just breathtaking! Congratulations,' @jenafrumes commented.
