'If Pitso bought It, I'd be happy' – Masina saddened by United sale

Dennis Masina has become the latest SuperSport United legend to express disappointment at the shock sale of the club's PSL status to Siwelele FC. Masina, a fan favourite during his playing days, enjoyed two spells at Matsatsantsa a Pitori.
Masina's SuperSport success
The former Eswatini international first joined the club from Bush Bucks in 2002 before making a move to Belgium in 2004. He later returned in 2006 and was instrumental in helping United lift two league titles.

The decision to sell has sparked outrage among fans who feel that the club's identity and proud history have been stripped away overnight. Like many, Masina is saddened that the former three-time premiership champions are no more.
'Yes, it's very sad that SuperSport has been sold. There are many legends and youngsters that come from the team,' Masina told Phakaaathi.
'It's very sad for us to see the team go like that. SuperSport looked after us and when we were there and as I've mentioned before that the team is the one that helped me build a home for me back home.
'It was a family team for us so for me it was sad to see a team that has done so good for us at home being sold. We were talking in the group of legends about the team because we still believe that we would not be here today if it wasn't for them.'
'I'd go back any time if it returns'
Phakaaathi understands that the club's academy will remain operational despite the sale marking the end of United's status as a top-flight outfit. Masina remains hopeful that the Pretoria-based outfit can be revived in the future.
'If coach Pitso (Mosimane) bought it, I was going to be very happy because it's where he started. I also think I really enjoyed my football when I started playing for SuperSport so for me, I'd go back any time if it returns,' he added.
'They are a team that I spent a lot of time with because I was still a young boy when I came from Bush Bucks. I still have a lot of friends that I played with and the legends as well. We had the likes of the late John Moeti and Thomas Madigage.

'It was a team that made me enjoy football. They used to tell me that I must not lose the ball and if I do, I must go and defend. They really looked after me and coach Pitso looked after me and the management was there for me.'

Air Canada cabin staff go on strike, grounding hundreds of flights
Air Canada's unionised flight attendants walked off the job early on Saturday morning after pay talks with the country's largest carrier stalled, in a move that is expected to disrupt travel plans for more than 100,000 passengers. The union representing more than 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants confirmed the 72-hour stoppage in a social media post in the first strike by flight attendants since 1985. The airline said on Saturday it had suspended all flights for Air Canada and its budget arm Air Canada Rouge, after cabin crew represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) went on strike. 'About 130,000 customers will be affected each day that the strike continues,' Air Canada said. 'Air Canada is strongly advising affected customers not to go to the airport unless they have a confirmed ticket on an airline other than Air Canada or Air Canada Rouge,' the airline said. Flights for regional operators Air Canada Jazz and PAL Airlines would continue to operate. Attendants are paid when the plane is moving and the union is seeking to also be compensated for time spent on the ground between flights and helping passengers board. Montreal-based Air Canada, which is expected to respond quickly by locking out the workers, had said it anticipated cancelling 623 flights by the end of Friday during the busy summer travel season. It expected about 100,000 people would be affected on Friday alone. Flight attendants will on Saturday picket at major Canadian airports, where passengers were already trying to secure new bookings earlier in the week, as the carrier gradually wound down operations.

After 120 years, Murray & Roberts heads towards liquidation
Murray & Roberts, the multinational engineering and construction group, will not oppose liquidation proceedings initiated by a creditor, seeking final winding up of the business. Image: Supplied After 120 years, Murray & Roberts Limited (MRL), a South African engineering and construction stalwart founded in 1902, faces liquidation. The company, which listed on the JSE in 1951 and merged with Roberts Construction in 1967, did not oppose creditor-initiated proceedings in the Gauteng High Court. This decision follows a prolonged period of financial distress that rendered the holding company insolvent after the sale of its core assets. On August 15, the group informed shareholders that a creditor had initiated liquidation proceedings in the Gauteng Division of the High Court of South Africa, seeking a final or provisional winding up order. According to reports Murray & Roberts stated, "Given the company's financial position, Murray & Roberts does not intend to oppose the liquidation application." The company plans to continue engaging with its legal advisors and will update shareholders on further material developments. On November 22, 2024, the company was subsequently placed on business rescue following significant liquidity constraints by the South African-based international engineering and construction group over a prolonged period. The business rescue practitioners said that creditors had approved MRL's business rescue plan on April 8, and in terms of this plan, MRL's main assets, its mining businesses, would be sold to a consortium of investors led by South Africa-based asset management firm Differential Capital.
