Two held for killing salesman in Jaipur rural
Jaipur: Two men were arrested by Jaipur rural police Thursday for allegedly opening fire at a local resident's house and fatally shooting a 25-year-old petrol pump salesman in Naraina near Dudu late Tuesday night.
The accused, Gopal Jat (30) and Shaitan Dansaniya (27), both residents of Naraina, were detained after a joint police operation spanning multiple districts.
According to DIG Anand Sharma, the accused, travelling in a black Thar without a number plate, first threatened Ramswaroop, a resident of Panwa Kalan village, by firing outside his home. Within minutes, they stopped at the Shakambhari Petrol Pump in Marwa and shot salesman Shaitan Gurjar, who later succumbed to injuries at CHC Naraina.
"The accused have no previous criminal records anywhere, but they procured an illegal weapon through some network. They began roaming around the town with the weapon and brandishing it. They also fired in the air," Sharma said.
He added the accused then went to the petrol pump and asked the salesman to fill their tank for free. "The salesman refused to be intimidated and asked them to leave. The accused then opened fire, and the shot hit the victim in the head, who died later," Sharma said.
He said the gravity of the twin shootings prompted the formation of a special police team under ASP (HQ) Rajneesh Poonia, ASP Dudu Shivalal Bairwa, and circle officer Sambhar Lake Anupam Mishra.
"The police teams were put on alert across the district, which chased their vehicle and arrested them," said the official.
A regional alert was issued across Jaipur Rural, Ajmer, and Nagaur, with blockades set up. Acting swiftly on leads, police, with assistance from sub-inspector Satyawan Meena of Rupangarh (Ajmer), tracked and arrested the two accused. The black Thar vehicle used in the crime was seized along with an illegal pistol.
Two separate FIRs have been lodged in connection with the firing incidents. Police said further investigation is underway to determine the motive and trace the firearm's origin.

Leopard kills 10 goats in village near Salem; forest dept officials set up cage to capture it
Representative image SALEM: Forest department officials have set up a cage to capture a leopard that killed 10 goats in a village near Mecheri in Salem district. Also, they have set up camera traps to monitor the leopard's movements. The leopard killed 10 goats belonging to K Venkatesan, 60, of Kaligoundanur on June 10. He said it was not the first instance of a leopard attacking goats in Kaligoundanur village. Over the past 10 months, the leopard had killed several goats and a few cows, he said. On Friday, the villagers approached the officials of the Danishpet forest range to request them to capture the leopard. The forest officials visited the village and confirmed the leopard's presence by identifying its pugmarks. "We have placed a cage with a goat as a bait. We have installed cameras in 10 locations to track the animal," a forest official said. Forest officials advised villagers to stay indoors at night to avoid potential attack by the animal. "We have also suggested that they keep the areas around their houses well-lit. This may discourage the animal from approaching their houses or pens," the official added. Ahmedabad plane crash: Gujarat Minister Harsh Sanghavi holds meeting with police, forensic experts to assess progress of DNA testing
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday convened a meeting with top police officials and Forensic Science Laboratory officials to assess the progress of the DNA testing process being done on the bodies of those killed in the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Thirty-six state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials, along with National Forensic Science officials, are working hard to match the DNA of the deceased and family members to identify the dead bodies, he told reporters after the meeting. Around 260 people, including 241 on board the flight, lost their lives after the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed into a hostel building shortly after its takeoff. 'Top officials of the Forensic Science Laboratory of different parts of Gujarat have assembled and are working hard continuously round the clock. The National Forensic Science Laboratory officials had also extended their help,' Sanghavi said. He further added that once the FSL officials get the matching numbers, they are immediately sent to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to identify the bodies. 'The process of matching the numbers takes around 3 to 4 hours,' said the minister. He, however, did not reveal the number of passengers' bodies identified.
