India remains crucial partner: US State Department

India remains a key strategic partner for the United States, the US State Department emphasised on Thursday amid mounting tensions between New Delhi and Washington. The department's principal deputy spokesperson Tommy Pigott told reporters that America would pursue a 'full and frank' dialogue with India. The US State Department's principal deputy spokesperson Tommy Pigott told reporters that America would pursue a 'full and frank' dialogue with India. (AFP) 'What I can say in terms of India is that the President (Donald Trump) has been very clear in terms of the concerns he has regarding the trade imbalance, regarding the concerns he has when it comes to the (Indian) purchase of Russian oil. You have seen him take action directly on that,' Pigott said at a press briefing in response to a question about Prime Minister Modi's reported upcoming visit to China for a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). 'India is a strategic partner with whom we engage in a full and frank dialogue. That will continue and Secretary Rubio has spoken on that. Like anything in foreign policy, you are not going to align 100% of the time on everything,' Pigott added. Pigott's statements come as a shift in tone even as India-US tensions rise over Indian purchases of Russian energy and Trump's decision to levy a 50% tariff on India. India has pushed back at President Trump's tariff levies, terming them 'unfair, unreasonable and unjustified'. India's ministry of external affairs also took aim at US and European purchases of energy, chemicals and fertilisers from Russia as evidence of a double standard. Tensions with America have also sparked a flurry of diplomatic activity. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with President Lula of Brazil, and on Friday, with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Both India and Brazil face a 50% tariff from the United States and the two leaders have had increasingly strained relations with US President Donald Trump. They agreed to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. On a visit to Moscow, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval stated that India and Russia were finalising dates for Putin's visit to India, and on Friday, Modi said in a post on X that he looks forward 'to hosting President Putin in India later this year'. And China issued a statement welcoming Prime Minister Modi for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit to be held in Tianjin at the end of this month. 'China welcomes Prime Minister Modi to China for the SCO Tianjin Summit. We believe that with the concerted effort of all parties, the Tianjin summit will be a gathering of solidarity, friendship and fruitful results, and the SCO will enter a new stage of high-quality development featuring greater solidarity, coordination, dynamism and productiveness,' said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. HT earlier reported that the bureaucracies in New Delhi and Washington are attempting to steady the relationship, with talks ongoing for high-level energy, financial and diplomatic. cooperation continuing. Contacts between the Indian government and their American counterparts have remained relatively unaffected by political tensions.

Ballari: K Raghavendra Hitnal, who was recently elected as the president of the Raichur, Ballari, Koppal, Vijayanagara (RABAKOVI) Milk Union, has confirmed plans to establish a mega dairy in Ballari district. The announcement came after a board meeting on Friday, during which Ballari was officially selected as the site for the project. Hitnal said the mega dairy will be built in Kolagallu village, with Rs 80 allocation from KMERC funding. The board of directors is set to approve the acquisition of 15 acres in Kolagallu for Rs 2.9 crore, which will pave the way for the dairy's construction. In the coming months, chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar will jointly lay the foundation stone for the facility. Hitnal said a high-quality, exemplary mega dairy will be established. Hitnal said Rs 1 crore will be allocated to renovate the old dairy in Ballari, while Rs 4 crore will be used to expand the dairy at Budagumpa village in Koppal district. "Currently, Ballari district produces only 9,000 litres of milk. We are in talks with relevant authorities to boost this production. 60-40 registration policy for middle-income group plots yet to take off despite AP govt order

1 2 V isakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh govt announced a policy change regarding registration of middle-income group (MIG) plots developed under Dr NTR smart township scheme in April. As per the new guideline, the registration value will be split, with 60 percent accounted as sale price and 40 percent as development charges. The change was expected to reduce the overall registration fees for buyers by nearly 40 percent. Though four months have passed since the order was issued, the change is yet to be implemented at the urban development authorities' level. As a result, buyers who have fully paid for their plots (costing as much as Rs 34.8 lakh in layouts such as Palavalasa at Anandapuram, Visakhapatnam) are awaiting official implementation of the order. Interestingly, several buyers had already registered their plots at 100% of the price before the release of the govt order. Buyers had been urging the govt to release the order, as promised during the announcement of the MIG layout scheme by the previous YSRCP govt over three years ago, since long. After much delay, the govt in an official order finally announced the 60-40 split, directing authorities to divide the registration of plots in respect of NTR smart townships (MIG layouts) into two documents instead of one. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Walmart Photos With a New Level of Detail Old Money Style Undo One document is to indicate the base price (60% of sale price), and the other to indicate development charges (40% of sale price), on which registration fees of 7.5% and 0.5% respectively, will be levied by the registration and stamps dept. Tentu Satyanarayana, president of Palavalasa NTR smart township layout plot allottees' association, requested VMRDA to expedite the registration process. "Several beneficiaries have already paid the full amount for their plots and are waiting for registration. The delay in implementing the 60-40 registration rule is causing confusion among beneficiaries about whether it will be enacted at all. When we repeatedly approached VMRDA, officials said they are finalising the proforma for the 60-40 registration," he said. The then YSRCP govt in the state introduced the 'smart townships' scheme three years ago to provide affordable housing plots to middle-income group (MIG) people through layouts developed by various urban development authorities. Despite its original objective, the scheme (renamed 'NTR smart townships' after the new NDA govt assumed office in 2024) has seen limited success. Of the 36 projects launched across different assembly constituencies, only 29% of plots have been sold, and just 23% of the expected revenue has been realised. The scheme's poor performance is attributed to several factors. These include a restrictive annual income cap of Rs 18 lakh for eligibility, a lottery-based allocation system that offers no option to choose a specific plot, a rule restricting each beneficiary to only one plot, and the absence of any significant price advantage compared to private market rates.
