Qatar: Close to My Soul Exhibition
Modern and contemporary art in Qatar emerged as a visual extension of the political, economic and sociocultural context of the country in the second half of the twentieth century. A poetic journey into the past and present, Qatar: Close to My Soul is a testament to the diversity and development of the nation's visual culture. Featuring a significant number of artists and artworks, the exhibition reveals the distinct thematic approaches that have emerged and converged over different generations.
The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections. The first of these, O'mri Qatar, explores how artists draw inspiration from traditional architectural and natural landscapes. The second, Dewdrops, features works portraying society, and the third, Boundless Expanse, presents various experiments in abstraction and hurruffiya, an art form incorporating Arabic letterforms. Through the exhibited works, texts, and archival material, visitors will gain a deeper insight into the history of modern and contemporary art in Qatar.

Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum participates in Back to School Festival
DOHA: The Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, under the Ministry of Culture, is taking part in the third edition of the Back to School Festival, currently underway at Msheireb Galleria and running until Aug 30. In a statement, the Ministry of Culture said the Forum's participation aims to help prepare students for the new academic year through engaging activities that instil a love of reading and learning in children. As part of its program, the Forum is offering a workshop on 'The Importance of Reading' to introduce children to the benefits of books and the knowledge treasures they hold. Director of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, stated that this event is part of the Ministry of Culture's vision to nurture a conscious generation that loves reading. He added that the Forum continues its efforts to support the publishing and distribution sector, with full backing from the Ministry, in line with the country's vision to preserve national identity and values. The Forum's booth features a mini-library with a selection of books, including notable local titles from Qatari publishing houses, highlighting their contributions to the local cultural scene.

Doha cinemas showcase diverse film lineup this week
QNA Doha Qatari cinemas are screening a diverse lineup of films this week, coinciding with their global releases. The offerings span action, thriller, horror, comedy, adventure, and animated features for children and families. Leading the schedule is the action-thriller 'No Body 2', directed by Timo Tjahjanto. The film follows former assassin Hutch Mansell, played by Bob Odenkirk, as he confronts his violent past to prevent a home invasion, unravelling dark secrets about himself and his wife Becca.
