According to the reports, Christopher Sweet, a government newcomer, has been hired onto the HUD DOGE team. As per reports, citing internal emails, Sweet has come on board HUD as a "special assistant" with a fairly unusual title, "Al computer programming quant analyst." Sweet's limited experience in government positions and his sparse academic credentials call into question the legitimacy and purpose of his appointment.
Sweet's primary duty will be to spearhead efforts to cut and reform government regulations at HUD. His work entails using artificial intelligence to review current regulations, comparing them with the laws upon which they are founded, and determining where regulations might be eased or eliminated altogether. In addition, Sweet has been given access to HUD's most important data repositories, such as the Public and Indian Housing Center Information Center and the enterprise income verification systems.

DOGE's reform strategy faces backlash as Musk admits program failures
The hiring of Christopher Sweet fits within DOGE's wider strategy for government reform. This strategy appears to be based largely upon the recruitment of young, comparatively inexperienced tech enthusiasts and placing them in challenging government areas. These recruits are subsequently charged with managing complicated governmental procedures without undue support or familiarity. Though it claimed to aim for decreased government expenditures and enhanced efficiency, skepticism has been increasing that DOGE's real goal is not to increase the functionality of the government, but to systematically eliminate many of the agencies. This theory is consistent with the overall political platform of Project 2025, a right-wing libertarian effort supported by former President Donald Trump, which aims to significantly curtail government functions to an absolute minimum.
Additional proof for the theory that DOGE is not seriously devoted to reducing government expenditure is evidenced by the actual expenditures of the U.S. government. In spite of DOGE's ideology, the U.S. incurred $220 billion more in spending during Trump's first 100 days in office than during the same time frame in 2024. The inconsistency makes one wonder about the actual effect and motive of DOGE's continuing reforms.

Trump fires Billy Long as IRS commissioner two months after he was confirmed: Who is he?
US President Donald Trump abruptly removed Billy Long, the former auctioneer and Republican congressman, who was confirmed less than two months ago as head of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Trump administration said on Friday. Billy Long will no longer serve as the tax agency's head. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will oversee the agency as acting IRS commissioner, the New York Times reported. It was not immediately clear why Long was dismissed. His quick exit makes him the shortest-tenured IRS commissioner confirmed by the Senate since the position was created in 1862. Billy Long is a former Missouri congressman. While in Congress, where Billy Long served from 2011 to 2023, Long sponsored legislation to get rid of the IRS. A former auctioneer and real estate broker, Long has no background in tax administration. He also hosted a radio talk show from 1999 to 2006 'on which the IRS was always a hot topic,' according to his biography on the agency's website. After leaving Congress to mount an unsuccessful 2022 bid for the US Senate, Long worked with a firm that distributed the pandemic-era employee retention tax credit, the AP reported. That tax credit program was eventually shut down after then-IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel determined that it was fraudulent. Long wrote on social media that he would be nominated to become the next US ambassador to Iceland. 'It is a honor to serve my friend President Trump and I am excited to take on my new role as the ambassador to Iceland,' Long wrote. With President Donald Trump calling for a federal takeover of the nation's capital city, the White House says there will be an increased presence of federal law enforcement on the streets of Washington, DC, for at least the next week. "We have to run DC," Trump told reporters. But doing so would require a repeal of the Home Rule Act of 1973 in Congress and could face steep pushback. This was prompted by the attempted carjacking of a DOGE employee nicknamed 'Big Balls' by a group of teenagers. Carjackings and homicides are actually down sharply in DC after spiking in 2023. A two-hour tour of the DC streets, starting around 1 a.m. Friday morning, revealed no evidence of the sort of multiagency flood of uniformed personnel described in Trump's announcement. Here's the Latest: Trump orders increased law enforcement presence in Washington for at least 7 days. The White House says there will be increased presence of federal law enforcement in the capital to combat crime for the next week, with the option to extend it. "Washington, DC is an amazing city, but it has been plagued by violent crime for far too long," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. "President Trump has directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement to protect innocent citizens." She said that means "there will be no safe harbor for violent criminals in DC" The announcement comes amid Trump's repeated suggestions that control of Washington could be returned to federal authorities. Doing so would require a repeal of the Home Rule Act of 1973 in Congress, a step that the president said lawyers are examining but that could face pushback.
