Kelly Clarkson's Ex-husband Brandon Blackstock Reportedly Died Of A Melanoma
Brandon Blackstock took his final breath on Thursday, August 7. His death came a day after his former partner revealed his health had deteriorated due to an undisclosed illness.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock were married from 2013 to 2020. The "Stronger" filed for divorce that year, citing irreconcilable differences. However, their breakup wasn't finalized until March 2022.
Kelly Clarkson's Ex-Husband's Manner Of Death Ruled As Natural Causes
According to Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis, Clarkson's former flame died from melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Based on his cause of death, Blackstock's manner of death was listed as natural causes. The coroner added:
"Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana, on August 7 under hospice care, surrounded by his family."
Blackstock died on August 7, with a rep for his family confirming the news in a statement to PEOPLE. "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years," the message revealed.
"He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time," the rep concluded. As stated, Blackstock's passing came a day after his ex-wife revealed he was ill.
The Singer-Songwriter Postponed Her Las Vegas Residency
Clarkson announced Blackstock's poor health in a statement to fans, noting she had to postpone the rest of her August Las Vegas residency dates. She explained that she needed to be there for her ex-husband and their children and implored fans for their understanding.
"While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding," she shared.
A source shed more light on the situation, telling the outlet that Clarkson had been "devastated" amid Blackstock's illness. "When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake," they claimed, adding that she was "heartbroken" for her kids.
The 'American Idol' Alum Faced A 'Very Rough' Period
Following news of Blackstock's death, The Blast shared that a source claimed Clarkson had a hard time before and after his passing. "Kelly's life has flipped upside down with Brandon's cancer struggles and now death," they alleged, adding:
"She's been blessed with an incredible career and life, but once her marriage ended and once Brandon's health started dwindling, it has been very rough."
The source claimed Clarkson was in "mom mode" as the sole parent of her children, noting she was helping them navigate the pain of losing their father. They stressed that this period would be a challenging time for the singer, and her jovial persona might not resurface anytime soon.
How Kelly Clarkson's Ex-Husband Spent His Final Days In Montana
The Blast covered Blackstock's final days, reporting that he spent the last six months of his life focusing on his treatment. Sources shared that he prioritized spending time with his family "more than ever," with Clarkson helping out.
Although the songwriter was not her ex-husband's primary caretaker, she reportedly helped by taking their children to see Blackstock often. Another source noted the late talent manager retreated away from the spotlight to Montana once his health started to deteriorate.
Blackstock previously lived in Clarkson's $10 million ranch in Montana, but he was forced to leave after their divorce. She won the property back in their settlement while he found a new place to call home in 2022. He purchased a $1.8 million property in Butte, Montana, where he took his final breath.
Other Celebrities Who Battled Skin Cancer
Although Blackstock tragically lost the battle with skin cancer, he wasn't the first celebrity to face this ordeal. Hugh Jackman was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in 2013 and had it removed, only to face more hiccups down the road.
By May 2015, the "X-Men" star had removed four cancers from his skin, per SunDoctors. Diane Keaton, known for her fair skin, revealed she stopped trying to tan her skin after getting diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on her face at 21.
Ewan McGregor reportedly had multiple cancerous moles removed from his skin in the early 2000s, while Khloe Kardashian had two moles, one of which was a melanoma, removed from her back. Another famous member of the KarJenner family, Caitlyn Jenner, had a basal cell carcinoma removed from her nose.
Rest in peace, Brandon Blackstock!

Ada Choi on husband's heart problem: I felt so guilty!
19 Aug - Following Max Zhang's viral story about how he had a near-death experience with a heart attack back in April, Ada Choi recently shared her side of the story during the press conference of her new drama, "Behind the Queen". The actress, who was asked about Max's story, where he revealed he experienced a heart attack while she was waiting to ride the duck boat, shared that the actor actually felt unwell twice in March prior to their trip, but his ECG showed nothing worrying. "Then in April, while we were in Singapore having fun, he suddenly couldn't breathe, couldn't move, and couldn't speak. He had to sit down to the side. I was so bad, I actually left him to go ride the duck boat, thinking he just had a cold. But later, seeing how pale he was, I knew something was seriously wrong. After a while, he said he was okay," she said. Ada said that it was the next morning that Max finally told her what happened while tearing up. "He told me that at that moment, looking at the four of us, he thought that if he lay down, he might never get back up again and he had to force himself to stand up. He cried as he told me this. I had never seen him like that before," she said. The actress said that upon returning to Hong Kong, Max had to undergo angioplasty after further tests showed that one of his arteries was more than 80 percent blocked. "When I found out about it, I felt so guilty. I got down on my knees and cried, wondering how I could have failed so badly as a wife. I just hugged him and thanked God he was okay. If something had happened to him, I would've gone crazy," she said. Ada also assured that the actor is doing much better now, and that he has already returned to mainland China to film "Call Me By Fire". "He's fine after the surgery. He's very busy filming now, so we don't get to talk daily, but the production team is looking after him. So, I feel more reassured," she said. (Photo Source: Ada Choi IG)

Jerry Jones Claims He Received Death Threats When He Bought the Dallas Cowboys and Fired Coach Tom Landry
NEED TO KNOW Jerry Jones claimed that he received multiple death threats shortly after he bought the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 In the new Netflix docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, the owner looks back on what happened after he fired legendary coach Tom Landry Jones hired his longtime friend and former teammate Jimmy Johnson as Landry's successor When Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys in February 1989 and then fired legendary head coach Tom Landry, virtually no one in the franchise's fandom was happy with the Arkansas oil man. Then, he installed himself as president and general manager — an unheard of move in the NFL — riling even more of the team's supporters. But none of his decisions in the early days of owning America's Team had prepared him for the extreme criticism from Cowboys Nation. 'I was Darth Vader,' Jones, 82, recalls in the new Netflix docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys. Jones told Arkansas state lawmakers at the time that he had received multiple death threats. 'They're serious about their football in the state of Texas, almost as much as we are in Arkansas,' he says in the doc. After Landry's firing, more than 100,000 people turned out for a parade through the streets of downtown Dallas to honor the Cowboys coach of 29 years. 'Jerry and the Jones family had broken into the museum and taken our most valuable possession,' former ABC affiliate WFAA-TV sportscaster Dale Hansen says in the doc, describing the affection fans had for the former coach. Looking back, even Jones confesses it may have been a rash decision to fire Landry — whose team notched a 3-13 record during his final season in 1988. 'The firing of Coach Landry was certainly one of the great PR missteps, maybe of all time,' Jones says. 'Because I still wear that.' At a press conference later termed the Saturday Night Massacre — a reference to the Watergate scandal — Jones announced his intentions with the team. One day later, he fired Landry and named longtime friend and fellow University of Arkansas teammate Jimmy Johnson as the new coach of the Cowboys. Charlotte Jones Anderson, Jones' daughter and the team's executive vice president and chief brand officer, recalls thinking after the press conference, "What do we do?' Jones says he had no choice but to forge ahead. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. His team in Dallas — nicknamed the City of Hate due to President John F. Kennedy's 1963 assassination — was coming together, and that's when Jones truly laid it all on the line, he says. 'With all that hate, I could stop and cry or I could just keep going,' Jones says. 'But I'm not gonna take my marbles and go home. I can't, I burned all my ships when I landed."
