‘Gundam GQuuuuuuX' Believes In The Sign Of Zeta And Gets Interesting

Forbes21-05-2025

The updated Psycho Gundam Mk II.
It took a while, but the confluence of events over the past few episodes of Gundam GQuuuuuuX has finally borne fruit, and the story is getting interesting.
In the prior build-up episode, which wasn't all that interesting, we were introduced to this timeline's version of Bask Om. Who, in this instance, is trying to kill Kycilia Zabi on her upcoming visit to the colony.
Naturally, the Federation under new corporate guises smuggles in a new mobile armor and mobile suit. This is where the fun begins in our latest episode.
The final Clan Battle turns out to be a battle with said Federation mobile armor and mobile suit as a front to kill Kycilia.
The mobile armor is an updated version of the Psycho Gundam Mk II, and the mobile suit is a funky version of the Hamrabi. These are both mecha from Zeta Gundam, which is set during the same time period as GQuuuuuuX (it's also why Bask Om fits in here).
When the Psycho Gundam does its whole transformation from flying brick of doom to giant mobile suit, we even get an insert of Zeta Gundam music, which was actually pretty neat.
Naturally, the GQuuuuuuX and Red Gundam get floored by these two opponents, and it's only Challia Bull in his Kikeroga that saves the day. The latter is an updated version of the Braw Bro mobile armor, albeit smaller and with a mobile suit mode, the latter looking a bit goofy.

The Kikeroga is also a deep cut reference to a prototype mobile suit that was never animated in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, which is cool, but really cements this series as nerdy fanfiction.
We also get to see a fancy new Gyan that saves Kycilia and later Nyaan, so there's at least some interesting mecha action in this episode.
My only issue here is that in Zeta Gundam, the technological shift from the One Year War era was massive, and older mobile suits and mobile armors didn't stand a chance against the newer models. So it's weird to see that reversed here, and also emphasises that the Federation really lacks its necessary Amuro-level Newtype to reach combat parity.
The corollary of all these events is that Nyaan ends up with Kycilia, by way of Olivier, and Machu with Challia. The latter also reveals his true plan to end the conflict between Zeon and the Federation by killing the remaining Zabi family members, which is what Char did in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, for all the good that did.
Shuji and the Red Gundam also disappear again in another Zek Nova, which now seems to be a point of contention between Nyaan and Machu, as they both have clear feelings for him.
In any case, the mostly dumb Clan Battle setup seems to be thankfully behind us, and we now have some actual story development to look forward to. It's clear that both Machu and Nyaan will end up as rivals in some kind of Zeon civil war, but how that will resolve remains to be seen.
This series does still feel like revisionist Zeon fanboy fanfiction at times, but it's actually getting interesting even if the delivery is rather hamfisted. However, after this latest episode, it feels like something decent is potentially on the way.
Gundam GQuuuuuuX is now streaming worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.

Mia Goth Joins Ryan Gosling in Shawn Levy's STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER — GeekTyrant

Mia Goth is officially joining the Star Wars universe. The actress known for her wild, intense performances in Pearl , Infinity Pool , and MaXXXine , is now co-starring with Ryan Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter , the new standalone film from director Shawn Levy. There's no word yet on who Goth is playing, but her casting immediately adds some interesting energy to the project. I assume she will be playing the villain, a role that was previously offered to Mikey Madison and Jodie Comer. Starfighter is set about five years after The Rise of Skywalker, picking up the galaxy's story after the Skywalker saga ended. The film will introduce a fresh set of characters and carve out new territory in the canon. The story revolves around a "a 15-year-old boy on a mission with his uncle, played by Ryan Gosling. They're being pursued by a duo of villains—one male, one female.' At this year's Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially announced the project, setting the stage for a new theatrical era of Star Wars . The film is expected to begin shooting this fall and is locked in for a May 28, 2027 release. Levy Previously said of the film: 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet.' Behind the scenes, Jonathan Tropper is writing the script. Tropper has a long creative history with Levy, having written The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You , and he's also the creator of Apple TV+'s Your Friends & Neighbors . This marks another unexpected pivot in Goth's career, which is full of very wild and interesting choices. She'll soon be seen in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein , sharing the screen with Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, and is also set for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey alongside an ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. I'm really curious to see how this Star Wars: Starfighter movie turns out. Source: Variety

Namco-Backed AI-Powered Light Gun Brings ‘Time Crisis' To Modern TVs

The G'AIM'E light gun could finally be the gateway back to classic shooters that so many people have ... More craved. One of the great casualties of modern technology was the demise of the light gun, which demanded classic CRTs to work properly. Sure, the Wii came tantalizingly close to replicating the experience with The House of the Dead: Overkill and Link's Crossbow Training, but it wasn't the same. Luckily, the powerhouse behind the gun-based arcade revolution — Bandai Namco — has backed a new light gun that promises to bring the experience to modern TVs, with in-built games including Time Crisis, Point Blank, and Steel Gunner… so long as it meets its soon-to-be announced Kickstarter target. The G'AIM'E gun, created in partnership with Namco by established Japanese electronics firm Tassei Denki, claims to have solved the conundrum with a plug-and-play setup that contains proprietary technology, replacing traditional infrared sensors with a high-resolution camera and AI for more responsive gameplay. What's more, the G'AIM'E promises to eliminate manual recalibration by automatically adjusting the experience to movement and angle, ensuring performance remains consistent regardless of your setup. Those backing the entry-level gun will receive a custom-licensed version of Time Crisis, recreated from the original arcade ROM. Point Blank, Steel Gunner, and Steel Gunner 2 will be available in expanded packages, which also include additional bonuses such as foot pedals and keychains. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder On the face of it, the G'AIM'E gun looks great, if not a bit on the cheap side. The gun is only available in blue outside of Japan, which gets a black option – potentially to avoid replica gun restrictions in other countries. The unit supports multiplayer modes with two gun connectors, essential for Point Blank. The one major thing it lacks is a recoil slider — a staple of the GunCon and a few of its rivals. That said, I don't think I've seen a working recoil in an arcade in about ten years, so maybe it's just one less thing to inevitably break. The Japanese bundles will likely be replicated for other markets, albeit with a blue gun, not a ... More black one. There's no information as to whether more games can be loaded at a later date — you'd hope the Bandai Namco partnership might lead to the inclusion of series like The House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, Crisis Zone, and even the other Point Blank and Time Crisis titles. However, presuming the Kickstarter succeeds (which, let's face it, there's basically no chance it will — pending its cost, or course), it's probably only a matter of time before someone mods the unit so people can play other classics of the era: Die Hard Trilogy, Resident Evil Survivor, Area 51 and, if we're lucky, the delightfully baffling Puffy: P.S. I Love You. Given that this is Tassei Denki's first-ever original product — and presuming it's successful — one can only hope the company will lean on its existing partnerships to create something for consoles, reviving niche genres in the same way CRKD is with its Les Paul-inspired Rock Band guitars. The G'AIM'E Plug & Play Time Crisis Gun System for Modern TVs will go live on Kickstarter at 12 noon EST on June 24. Pricing isn't available just yet, but given it's already touting ¥4,000 ($28) discounts for early-bird backers, chances are it'll be on or over the $100 mark for an entry-level kit.
